Hello Everyone. Thank you for watching and good luck! A quick note, the light is a little bright at the beginning, however, when it gets to the important part of actually do the repaste the lighting is significantly better. Thanks!
I'm gonna be upgrading the RAM in this laptop soon and figured I'd just go ahead and replace the thermal paste and possibly thermal pads as well. Thanks for the video!
I have this laptop, and by no means am expert or anything. But if you are having issues with heating and fans going up first and the most simple thing to do is to go to BIOS by pressing F12 at start up > Preformance > Intel turbo boost and disable this crap into oblivion. At one point my temperatures were going to 95-98, with fans at 100 % or close to it, with boost disabled 60-70 with no performance change that I can see. I remember doing this in the past and now with recent windows updates I think something messed up bios and got it enabled again. I actually repasted it and that haven't changed behavior too much, there are also some other known problems like changing power setting in My Dell app > Power > Thermal. Hope it helps, gl guys.
If you repaste it AGAIN, add a little more on that gpu, and don't "bounce" it up and down on the thermal paste, you'll likely have some better results. Buy bouncing it and lifting it up and placing it back down you introduced air into the gapes between the thermal paste. I'm not saying you'll get massive improvements, but you can't be certain your paste job has 100% die coverage.
Okay so I did this and it booted up normally but as soon as a tried to start up Overwatch I got a BSOD with the message nvlddmkm.sys failed pls help :( Edit: I also noticed that as soon as the fans were turning on they’d immediately shut down Edit 2: I think I fixed it!
I got to the same conclusion as you with my G5 5590 (i 9750h + 1660 ti). I applied Arctic mx-4 and I didn't see any changes in Temps. What I did was to change the value of PROCHOT to 20 so cpu automatically throttles to 80°C max. Thanks for the video
You Can undervolt even in last bios update by resetting it to Factory settings the cpu now is much cooler, throttles less and better performance in cinebench. Use throttlestop bcz I had weird bugs with Intel xtu
Has any fix been found since last year or should I return it? I was really enjoying it until it started overheating. I turned it right back on a couple times though so probably damaged the hardware.
@@JeffTheITGuy Just changed the thermal paste for thermal grizzly kryonaut and the difference is HUGE after nearly 2 years of daily usage the thermal paste was completely dry, thanks for the tutorial clear and simple to have a good idea of what your going in
Great video Man, But I think you didn't apply enough paste at all. You don't apply paste to a laptop like you're treating a regular desktop, just compare how much paste it was on the machine before you removed it, much more that what you applied. There little to no harm (beside affecting the heat sync curve) on applying more paste, since as you said, is not conductive, and the rest of the chipset is covered by that black pad Dell provides. My G5 got the best improvement just by undervolting (I'm not in the last bios), but you're being fair with what this paste can do you a G5 user. Just curious, did you ended up using the pads at all?
Darío Placencio I didn’t use the pads. I know you can go heavy on the thermal paste but I had a good spread and too much thermal paste can hinder thermal transfer.
Hi, thanks for the video! I'm not very knowledgeable on computer techs details, but my Dell G5 5590 has performance issues probably due to overheating since 1 year and a half. The warranty is over, I tried all the updates and fixes Dell might provide for all the components I could, but the problem stays, the games / softwares run very well for a few seconds (Which comforts me in the fact it is powerful) but then they run very poorly for a few seconds, then run well again, etc... It's probably due to overheating, the CPU slows down until it's cold enough to go full force again, then it runs well, and overheats again, etc... Do you think replacing the thermal paste is the solution? Thanks a lot!
@@JeffTheITGuy I applied your tutorial and no more overheating problem for now it seems, thank you very much! However when I closed the cooling system over the thermal paste and then reopened it to check if it was correctly placed mine was too liquid (Same thermal paste you linked) and just spread all over the components because of me opening it. I had to clean everything and then reapply it and not open again this time.
@@JeffTheITGuy at this moment I’m having dell fully replace my heatsink and fans along with my paste- hopefully I can either get them to apply some Noctua NT-H1 or some Arctic MX-4 that I would need to purchase or second best case scenario of be lucky enough to have a technician that actually knows what they are doing and get an excellent paste.
