    Hey Derek,
I’ve been a long time subscriber and I watch nearly every video you post. I can tell we disagree on most issues, but for some reason, I keep watching your content and it’s not because I agree with almost anything you say, so I don’t know, I just like your videos. This video was frustrating, I’m not going to unsubscribe, I think it’s really weird when people do that, but I do wanna point out some flaws and what you said. When you made the equivalence between the crime that was committed and the Israel/Palestine conflict, essentially advocated for the United States bombing the neighborhood. Those five people were from, then bombing their city, then bombing their state to try to find the hostages. That’s what’s happening in Palestine right now. The injustices of October 7 have been completely overtaken by the injustices of the last, eight months. I also think it’s in bad taste to discourage protesting and boil it down to just need to get a job and work out. I’ve done a lot of protesting in my life and I’m very proud of that work. I would greatly encourage you to look at all major, moments of progress in our countries history. You will find that all of them had protesting, and that violent protesting., Every single major event. You’re not taught about it in school because our government has invested interest in us not understanding how we’ve made the progress we have because then we might be bold enough to continue to replicate that behavior to get the change that we want to see today. To pretend as though genocidal language has not been used by many of the people in Israel’s government is extremely dishonest and factually untrue. I think you would benefit from doing more reading on this situation so that you can see how deeply complicated it is and how Israel is by no means the good guy in this scenario. I’m certainly not saying that Hamas is either, but there’s more nuance than you’re letting on.

Certainly appreciate you taking the time to explain your thoughts on this. I have to agree with your thoughts on the comparison to the five criminals and bombing their neighborhoods. Unfortunately the perfect example is just not out there and it was the best I could come up with to try to help people relate to the anger that Israel feels after October 7th. Its the same as we felt after 9/11. Its been almost 25 years since 9/11 and people have forgot. Also, because we were not successful in wiping the terrorists off the map, we still have it. The Japan and Germany example is what I wish you could focus on. It requires a certain level of pain in order to gain submission and surrender. We are not there yet with Palestine and my fear is we will never get there. Unless we are successful, far more people will die in the multiple subsequent wars that pop up over the centuries than by ending it now with one devastating blow. Just my thoughts. Truly appreciate you sticking around not punishing me even though you disagree with me. Truly.

      @@ASMRReality I had a feeling you’d be sensible Derek.
It’s rough, between what’s going on in Israel and here at home in the U.S. people are feeling tense, frustrated and tired. I am more left leaning but I tend to not be so far left as to be “woke”. I have family who are democrats and others who are conservative and there seems to be a lot more overlap in peoples concerns then they may realize. The disagreement seems to fall on how to deal with the issues at hand. I agree with you that being tough on terror is better than being push overs, but I believe nuance is the key. Especially with what’s happening between the IDF and Hamas. I think the terrorists should see justice and Israel has a right to defend itself, unfortunately the IDF has a 90% civilian casualty rate and as we have seen with other terrorist groups; killing civilians only serves to bolster their numbers. Israel may be contributing to future terror by killing civilians, they have even accidentally killed some of the hostages they were trying to get back from Gaza due to their indiscriminate targeting. I appreciate you being open to discussing these topics further with your subscribers not everyone is willing to hear opposing perspectives.

    Hi Derek,
Thank you for sharing your perspective as no one in my sphere is really for this war or supportive of the Israeli government. I gained a lot of insight into how people on the other side of this are thinking. I would like to share a version of the story that you may not have seen/considered.
Disclaimers: I have not been following the news very closely, so most of my knowledge of the situation comes from the occasional mainstream (usually leftist) coverage or from conversations with my friend living in Beershiva (about 25 miles from Gaza).
I have two main ideas and re-imagining of your opening analogy.
    1. Israel is divided. Netanyahu is a very controversial figure in Israel who staked his career on this war. Ending the war with anything less than total victory would mean the end of his political ambition. Alas, it seems less and less clear what victory could mean. As the war gets less popular - as families see their sons die and their tax dollars go to bomb schools - the goalpost to win back favor seems to shift. I believe this is part of the reason Netanyahu has been so reluctant to talk to Hamas leadership to negotiate for the hostages' release.
Things are further complicated by the fact that, like in our war on terror, it is impossible to defeat an idea. You could kill every member of Hamas, but then anyone in the world could just stand up and declare themselves Hamas and begin plotting your demise!
Given this bleak outlook, there are those in Israel who look to the US to end the war. In the past, similar conflicts have been resolved by a phone call - "Mr. Prime Minister, this is POTUS. Stop fighting or we're cutting your military aide." I believe that that is the outcome that protesters are hoping for.
    2. Israel is an apartheid state. It is indisputable that Palestinians are a legally distinct second class of citizen. They have fewer property rights, expect random acts of violence from authorities and citizens, and have very little legal recourse. Obviously, the October attacks were evil. However, they did not spring from a well of baseless hatred and bigotry (well not solely). I do not think that future peace can be bought with blood or "a certain level of pain." Perhaps this is overly optimistic, but I think a path forward could involve addressing this imbalance in their laws. If not reparations, at least more equal legal rights and protections.
Finally, I would like to return to Shannon and Christopher. As a thought experiment, I would like to imagine their story taking place in the Jim Crow south. Would their treatment be any less disgusting or vile? No, of course not. And obviously the people who did it should be punished. But would cracking down on the black communities surrounding the criminals prevent future violence or would it instead guarantee it?
I apologize for my long-windedness. I would be interested to hear more of your thoughts if you feel like doing another video on it.

    • @ASMRReality
      @ASMRReality  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I must first confess that I consulted with an Israeli friend of mine for proper context in responding.
first point - bibi is a controversial leader _mostly_ as presented in the media. there's a wealthy leftist 1% in israel that holds positions of power and since the judicial reform has been on the move they are scared shitless of losing their power, so they started rioting. the protests against the government are\were wildly covered by the news, its blown out of proportion and made it look like the majority of the population doesn't want bibi as a PM, but that is actually false. he was re-elected many times and is likely to get re-elected again because he represents the average israeli - center-right leaning.
since october 7th, and this is very important, protests against the juidicial reform seemingly died down, people understood that what they were doing, tearing us apart, was only serving our enemies. so the judicial reform and the protest against it were shelved and the people reunited. but then the captives' families' protests started, calling to seal the deal at all costs (which is also a cause for divide, because if hamas demands releasing 3000 terrorists for our 100-something people back, it's definitely a problem. these terrorists aren't reformed model citizens now. they'll be back to slaughtering jews on the streets in no time.) so then what happened, the leadership of the protests against the judicial reform sort of "took over" the protests the captives' families were leading. they tried pushing their anti-bibi agenda, claiming he purposefully derails every attempt at making a deal for his own political survival, which is ridiculous.
and theres also a huge gap between how bibi is perceived in the media and how hes perceived on the streets. when he walks among regular people they love him, im pretty sure that if we had elections today he'd get re-elected again. and he knows he has to finish this war or else the people will not choose him again, thats why he wont dare to hit the brakes now. to the outside observer it might look like israelies just really want revenge right now. we don't. we want a final solution, and not in the genocide type of way 😂
for 30 or even 40 years now the southerners have been suffering from rockets being thrown at them, and red alerts, and having to always run into bomb shelters. thats how they grow up, thats the kind of reality they brought babies into. its completely surreal. i can't even being to explain this to someone who hasn't experienced it. just imagine being in the shower then you hear the alert for an incoming rocket, you have 30 seconds to run into a bunker or a shelter. the people are fed up, especially because they keep comparing the south\and north (and dont even get me started on the north...lord almighty) to the center. one rocket falls in the center and everyone is shocked, its unfair bc the government let it happen down south for WAY too long. so now israelies want to completely change the equation. we want quiet everywhere - south, north, center. if the enemy dares to throw a rocket, doesn't matter where, they need to get it x10 worse because thats the only thing that'll teach them.
second point - muslim israeli citizens get the same rights as other minorities and jewish israelis. in fact, in many places, especially in the world of academia and work places, they enjoy affirmative action. if you're referring to palestinians in gaza and west bank then they aren't considered israeli citizens, obviously, but israel is still providing them with jobs, allowing them to work here. unfortunately many times they use it to spy & support terror and\or actively engage in terror themselves. the majority of them (it is estimated between 65%-75%) would vote for hamas if elections were conducted even today, 10 months into the war, and lets not forget that the palestinian population gave birth to hamas, and not the other way around. hamas are the sons and husbands of palestinian women.
As to the reference to Channon and Christopher, unfortunately, Hamas isn't just a group of 4 or 5 guys that we can send an elite mercenary squad to find and kill. They run the entire area of Palestine. All citizens are under their control. They are in all aspects, an enemy country and are being treated as one. Wish it were as easy as finding the responsible parties and bringing them to justice. Unfortunately that is not the case.

Once upon a time Jews and Muslims lived in what is now Palestine/Israel mostly peacefully. This peace lasted throughout the Ottoman Empire's existence, the Ottoman Empire being host to the most Jews anywhere in the world at the end of the 17th century. In the 19th century laws in the Ottoman empire changed making all people equal, a change which some strongly disagreed with as Jews where previously at the bottom of the hierarchy. This led to a series of attacks against Jewish people in the Ottoman Empire over the course of the 19th century. The main cause of the current Israel-Palestine conflict begain at the end of World War II when the Ottoman Empire finally fell. In 1948 Britain declared the creation of the state of Israel. Originally the country was partitioned in such a way that Palestine was the larger of the two states. The creation of Israel sparked the first Arab-Israeli war, the first major conflict between Palestine and Israel. Since then, Israel has slowly expanded into Palestine through numerous major conflicts. Israel has implemented strict apartheid-like laws on Palestinians and often treat them like animals. On numerous occasions Zionists have thrown Palestinians out of their own homes and taken them over for Israeli citizens or even military operations. On October 7th, Palestinian terrorist group Hamas attacked a festival in Israel killing and kidnapping hundreds of festival-goers out of anger at the treatment of Palestinian citizens (there are many conspiracy theories surrounding this attack however that is a totally different story). This sparked the current ongoing retaliation from Israel in which they have since killed 40000 Palestinians.
At the end of the day war is war and there are no winners, however, it is my personal belief that Palestine in this case is the lesser of two evils.
Of course I must also note that this is an incredibly condensed version of all of the events both recent and ancient.

@@skorpion7732wow you did an incredible job of giving the story. It’s just tough because this conflict goes back generations. I agree with Palestine being the lesser of two evils but that’s just because Israel at this point is a bully. Even if they are just getting revenge for the centuries of being at the bottom of the hierarchy. It’s not the fault of these generations of Palestinians and the Israel is just taking that anger and almost the anger from the holocaust and letting it all out. Neither the Jews or Palestinians can be in charge of that land, another power has to rule it and play as the mediator
