Thank god I got this video out in time! I'll be going on holiday's starting tomorrow, and I'll be back June 28th! So I was hoping to give you guys one last video while I'm gone, and I made it! Please enjoy it!
What breaks my heart before the scene commented in the video is chopper asking if robin was gone because she doesn't like them anymore, chopper is just so pure, he's my little king
I love that this video touched on how it doesn’t matter if a writer makes shit up as they go or if something was planned the first day they put pen to paper, what matters is if they make sure they make it work
Yuup. We know that all the warlords (besides Mihawk) and all the supernovas were improvised. Because of that, I'm like 99.9% sure Dressrosa (an arc revolving around Doffy and Law) wasn't even planned until much later. Same probably goes for the vast majority of Whole Cake and Wano too. That obviously doesn't take away from how good Dressrosa is; I actually think it makes the arc even better in retrospect
Some writers have plans and then the characters make those plans change. It’s usually expected to keep a framework to make sure story doesn’t deviate too far off course, but events changing esp due to characters is expected.
Ageeed! I'm tired of those people saying "You need to plan everything up front otherwise you're a bad writer". That's false. I'm an architect when it comes to my writing, I plan everything ahead, but even when I start the proper writings, some things can change. And gardeners are as valid as writers.
@@Shonras That's why I consider myself a landscape architect when it comes to writing. I plan all the things already knowing I can't fully control the growth of characters and plot. I give them a vague shape to fill, nudge them where they need to go, but the details often sneak up on me as I write. Then I water and prune those details to enhance the overall planned shape a little better, or I even change the shape to accommodate the new detail if I find it better than what I had planned (even if I have to course-correct half the plot to fit it).
I think it’s so cool that Sanjis like Choppers mom and Zoro is his dad. When him and Chopper went to go warn Usopp about Agua Laguna it was such a “let’s go but don’t tell dad” energy 😂
I jumped at the shoutout! Good for you for making the change, having to edit an entire voice over video it’s SO MUCH WORK. Give yourself a break by letting people see your beautiful face here and there 😂
WOAH thank you so much!!! It's so lovely to see you here! And please you're making me blush 😳 keep doing what you're doing too, it's so nice seeing and hearing you talk about literature of any kind! 🫶🩷
Robin didn't need to be on Whole Cake Island to see Sanji try to martyr himself, because Nami was there. And she's the original one that did that, and we see her response.
Except she was referring to a Saga. A Saga is a long, involved story, account, or series of incidents. One Piece is a set of 2 Epics split into Sagas, and each Saga contains a few story arcs. TLDR: One Piece is hella long and built different.
@@kingace6186no, what she was saying is that Water 7 and Enies Lobby were the same story, with not enough separation to be considered 2 separate arcs. It would be like saying that Onigashima was a completely different arcs from Wano, and calling everything after the Raid as "post Wano"
I just love how he comes out with that cool ass line while posing, but he's talking to a deer in a tiny backpack. It's emotionally moving and ludicrous, just how I like my One Piece.
I always love the scene where Sanji puts an island flower behind Robin’s ear. She looks so surprised at the kindness. Just a tiny little moment between them that reinforces her connection to him.
This is great stuff. Something I find interesting about the Strawhats is that most of them kind of see themselves as 'monsters' of a sort at different times. Zoro, Franky, and Jimbei embrace it they accept that they need to be themselves to be strong. Usopp and Nami grew up treated like monsters and have deep insecurities tied to it but not explicitly that detail. Luffy is the exception. I don't think Luffy has ever thought of himself as a monster or even really an outcast because he sees all people as individuals first without pretense. This makes Robin, Sanji, and Chopper the real monster trio. A seperate view of themselves that they are still learning to embrace. Sanji is the last one to really have that moment, which is also interesting to me.
I think Brook also kind of sees himself as a monster, he's in the Zoro group. He has embraced what his DF did to him and gained mastery over what he used to fear, death. He made peace with death and grief and became stronger for it.
Part of my thought as well towards Robins farewell, was it's like when a depressed friend sends out messages saying Thank You for being my friend. Big immediate red flag and she's saying it to the two biggest hearted characters. But throughout the arc she keeps insisting this is what she want, that she wants to die. With all of W7 and EL being the fight to get her to reject that voice and let them help her accept she is loved and they would face the world for her.
I love how Melon saw Sanji's thread going around about he not being kind to people, and she decided to make a whole video about how kind he is. Love that! This was so good! Oda writing never stops surprising me and thanks to you I can appreciate in new ways!
Pls stand up so we can make sure the channel name isnt a lie Edit: i acidentally read it as “Melontree” instead of “Melontee”, but you’re always a MelonTree in my eyes. A very knowledgeable melontree
Recently someone at work told me they stopped watching One Piece because there's "no character development". And if I didn't have you and this community, I probably would've felt angry and alienated. Thanks for what you do and for bringing us together (:
I'm always baffled why Sanjis line is so controversial. Ok I guess in a vacuum I CAN see how it could be a not very good statement, but in context it's just him trying to sound cool? Like, it's obvious to the reader that Robin doesn't actually hate them and Sanji sees that too, but since he's a goober he would obviously communicate that in a cool one-liner. My exact reaction is "of course he would say it like that".
It's controversial because a lot of anime fans are essentially toxic incels that think that women are abominable (or something like that) so they see Sanji that treats women well indiscriminately, regardless of physical beauty or potential for a relationship as a simp and a weak man
@@Red_The_Duck In context of his backstory with the kindness of his mom, sister, and then raised under Zeff to treat women with respect, we get everything on why he thinks so highly of women outside of simple attraction and horni to the very pretty ones. I respect that much, even if he goes too far a couple times it is supposed to be his built in flaws, at the very least he's never forced himself on anyone.
@@kennethsatria6607 Yeah it makes a lot of sense, Sanji is one of my favourite characters in One Piece and I loved how Oda used masterfully his weakness against women in Wano giving us one of the best scenes with Robin
It's because men tend to overreact when confronted with nuance about women. I say this as a man, but I guarantee there will be other men overreact to this comment.
22:22 I feel like Sanji "accepted" his monster too, at the end of his figth with queen. He over came it by realising that he is much more then just a cyborg.
I haven't reread one piece but I certainly think about past arcs when a character says something, like after Doffy is defeated and Robin and Law share a small scene of her telling him that Doffy is gone is Law is free now. I think about it a lot.
Tbh Robin was one of the first anime characters to actually have me concerned for a fictional character's well being. Learning her story and her struggles and watching her be forced into such situations made me genuinely upset on her behalf (screw that pink-haired freak "Spam-dam"). But I have always been in love with her design of character, and I hope to see more of that individuality in other series.
she really is one of the best charakters of all time. Same with sanjis backstory, seing how the poor boy was mistreated almost made me phisically sick. Same with Choppers btw and I of course love the Tanuki (matter of fact I´m writing this wearing a Chopper tshirt) but Sanji, Robin (and Kuma) are just straight up my fav charakters so I got to be a lil biased. Btw I hope you are as excited for Kumas backstory on sunday as I amcuz this shit will be a whole different type of tragic backstory. Might have to visit a therapist the way I LOVE those sob stories might not be healthy
im so happy when someone brings up that sanji's storyline is not over and his mutation still being a problem bc it gives validity to my interpretation that the writing behind the all blue for sanji is about getting to see it, even if barely bc he has had to struggle so much and even now he will still be in trouble of changing. The whole point is that he has to fight to remain the same sanji that smiled to luffy while talking about the all blue.
I love how you can understand many things about most characters when you rewatch one piece. But, I love how sensitive you are at picking and selecting some themes. Truly passionate work ❤
Melon and Merphy collaboration. Throwing this thought out there. Out into the ether/universe. Wishing for it to come true. Wishing it to become the 2nd coming of REVERIE!
Girllllll I'm sat, I am here for the Robin character dissection. She is my favorite character, not for looks, but because I love her motivation and drives to go forth and adventure
My top 3 favorite straw hats are Chopper, Sanji, and Robin. This perfectly encapsulates the reasons why I fell so strongly for these characters. Thank you so much.
It's amazing how you not only have THE correct opinions but also flawless skin. (Great video as always, you convinced me to reread a shitload of chapters)
Your essays and deep analysis give a new perspective on things, like this exact video. Your retrospective, add more and new ways to look at a situation that maybe I didn't consider so much in the past, like "why Oda chose those two characters". Your scripts and effort really pay off.
I rather consider it interesting. Chopper found pride in it, because he managed to overcome the monsterous part of him. Meanwhile Robin is just a label put on her by others which she took up essentially saying "So what? Screw you! Luffy's gonna be king of the pirates!" The label lost the danger, because straw hats are there. And for them, she more then willingly will play part of a devil. Sanji is like Chopper in Enies Lobby right now. Still figuring out how to deal with the part of himself that might become dangerous to what he loves. Or even worse, that he stops loving altogether. The only difference between him and chopper pre timeskip is fear reaction. While Chopper was anxious and hoped to keep it secret, Sanji flat out refused to fully become what he fears. So while all three of them have this monster theme, I'd argue they are all interesting because they portray nuance of said theme.
I feel like it's interesting that each person is going at it at a different pace. Chopper, barely into post time skip showing that and Robin showcasing it in Wano, accepting it one after another which leaves Sanji left. And Sanji for last I find more interesting that weird because, unlike Chopper and Robin who not only didn't get to know their blood family very well AND said blood family not liking them (Chopper's family abandoned him while Robin's Aunt and Uncle abused her; Robin's Mom not being there and they only really got to see each other for one good time but that was during a crisis). Adding on to what miro said in this reply chain, Chopper's monstrous form lacked control until he confronted it, trained to gain control as he accepted that it's apart of him, Robin was said to be a monstrous devil by the World Government so she went "Fuck it, I am and will be to protect the ones I love (the Straw Hat crew, her found family)." Sanji was briefly stuck seeing what he dubs his demons did to his Mother and Siblings. Mind you, his Mom was a angel who ended up suffering possibly a fate worse than death before her actual death with having her children tampered like that so early in development and seeing WHAT such experiments did to his siblings then and in the future when he saw them again. Made them emotionless, living, weapons. So seeing the start of that finally kick in for Sanji, it makes sense he'd freak out and not accept what he dubs his monstrous traits compared to how long (or it feels like short if you're comparing) it took Chopper and Robin by this point. That and he was seen as a dud, so he probably thought it'd never activate for him, only to have a rude awakening to show the contrary later on in his life. Now this is just me guessing a theory but I feel like Chopper and Robin will be there for Sanji this time after he's been there for both Chopper and Robin. As both in various ways would understand what he's going through now and no doubt would help him all the same like he did for them.
@@learn2chillaxOn a slightly unrelated note I think it's possible that Robin Awakened her Devil Fruit and which is how she did Demonio Fleur against Maria.
Fantastic vid as always, when i read this scene i was more impressed with sanji picking up on the robins lies and imedietly planning a way to save her, but never realy thought about the significance of those 3 together, i love how each crew member has a difirent conection and moment with each other.
im not gonna lie, your videos just feel like watching another one piece episode because of how entertaining they are! the way you always point out things i never would have even imagined having a meaning always blows my mind, and id love to see you do that with hunter hunter! im so thankful for having your videos available whenever i feel down and need a refresher, thank you for all ur work
I can't begin to understand just how reassuring and what a comfort it must have been for Robin to receive Sanjis kindness. To be with someone and not feel the need to be on edge or look over her shoulder, it must have been such a stress relief
Hell yes a video about the Real monster trio on the strawhats! Jokes aside, I always perk up when any combination of chopper, robin, and sanji appears. You mentioned Black Maria, which is a beautiful example of why doing so always pays off with the parallels and layered story lines--another place is when robin and chopper are fighting against hogback. Like?? against the mad scientist ripping away autonomy from people to make zombies , aka monsters?? how later when sanji starts mutating in wano, chopper notes how similar his body is to that?? it's wild how during that fight, robin and chopper examine the will of a body 'without' a soul or free will, and i think it has the potential to be very pertinent for sanji going forward (and Is relevant for kuma currently, it seems)
My main 3 favorite characters in One Piece is Sanji, Chopper, and Robin. And i just realized during the end of this video that this video specifically talks about all three of them, really cements my love for all of them (they are best characters, fight me!!) and my love for this video. Definitely gonna rewatch this video in the future just like i rewatch the Sanji, Chopper, and Robin video from this channel lol
💗💗💗 i loveeee robins relationships w the crew and i always thought that she loved chopper not just cause he’s cute but also cause his antlers have 5 points and they kinda look like hands and they remind him of robins devil fruit. there’s one cover art where robins a artist(?? a worker at an art museum??) where the picture she’s showing off is her as chopper and i’m p sure her antlers are hands that she sprouted on her head. i like to think that her love for chopper helps her realize that she’s cute too and also worthy of love 🫶🫶
Also I love how much more meaning the "monster" connection between Robin and Sanji adds to the moment in Wano with Maria and Robin when she tells Maria "You don't need to know what it means that Sanji relied on me for help"
I'm so glad you chose to revisit this scene bc it SHOOK ME. One of my favorite Sanji moments, also. Idk if you talk about how great Sanji is here bc I'm still watching but yeah lol Also THANK YOU for being a Water 7 + Enies = 1 arc truther bc that shit is NOT SEPARATE! It's not!
Reread/rewatch One Piece is literally my favorite hobby, and thats coming from someone who wont rewatch a show or reread a book series until enough time has passed that i forget most things. Thats why i love watching analysis videos or reaction videos like this channel, Merphy, and The Drawk Show's Mom Piece, mainly
I am rewatching one piece this time with my mother and last time i was home we just got to the episode where Iceburg reveal what Robin said to him to Nami !!! My mother, who did love Robin up to that point, was confused and a bit hurt by what Robin was doing before we got to that episode and she got that look of understanding that was so awesome to see. I am 100 aggreeing with you about rereading watching one piece because i never fully did it before and it was awazing at all the little details i noticed now that i never saw as a kid and that are highlighted by already knowing what will come. Your videos are always the best thank you so much for doing this we are all in awe everytime !!
I’m only 1 minute into this and I already am so excited to hear your take as this is something I feel the anime at times can stumble in spite of how magnificent it is even in the dub!
@@Onefishygal The dub has some great talent. Is it worse? Yeah obviously, only anime dub I would say rivals the JP is still Soul Eater. But is it bad? Hell no! Especially Robin’s VA! I’d say she does a better job then Ian Sinclair who’s an AMAZING Brook!
@@rezahydra mostly agree, I think the kaguya sama dub is pretty close to the sub but that's the only other one I can think of. also yes Robin's VA is amazing! :3
Thank for saying that Water 7 and Enie’s Lobby make up one arc. I’ve always felt that way, and it’s nice to hear someone else say it! Great video, as always!
im so glad I clicked on this video. I was a cook, then a chef, then worked in ecology, bureau of land management and forestry. then studied psychology, and Sanji was always my favorite character. meanwhile I admired Zoro the most.
Great Video thank you so much for this ride down memory lane at least for me and for reminding me WHY one-piece is Peak Piece Keep up the lovely uploads
The true monster trio!!! Great video! Thank you for highlighting that story telling isn't all a rigid predetermined structure. It puts respected authors on an impossibly high pedestal and fails to acknowledge how spontaneous the creative process can be! Also sick shades!
oh my god the connection between robin, sanji and chopper never occurred to me but after this video EVERYTHING makes so much sense now. you really opened my eyes to a whole new perspective on this scene omg melonteee slayed once again 😭🙏🏻
Such a great video! Robin will always have a special place in my heart because to me, she is one of the few, if not the only character in the entire series that goes out of her way to crack jokes with the intention of being funny. Some of my favorite little Robin moments are the ones where the crew comes across some anomaly on the sea and as they wonder what it could be, Robin immediately chimes in with a horrifying story she made up just to scare Usopp and Chopper, whose reaction always makes Zoro crack up. Also I'm sorry for the following essay, but it has to do with Japanese regional slang and an extra aspect of Robin's humor, at least as represented in the anime: Trafalgar Law generally speaks in proper Japanese (raised by doctors, remember) but as an adult he picked up some colloquial mannerisms that fit the northern Japanese dialect, chiefly how he follows up calling certain people's names with a "-ya" at the end. In his dialect the "-ya" is meant to replace the more polite/formal forms like "-san" and "-kun" to signify that Law at least sees the person with some casual respect. He does this mostly with Luffy (Mugiwara-ya/Strawhat-ya) and Kid (Eustace-ya). By using his regional slang to refer to them, this tells me Law acknowledges that Luffy and Kid are both on equal terms with him, or he at least acknowledges they are capable enough to be useful for his own goals. If Law did not care about those two, he would have simply referred to them by their first name without honorifics. Luffy isn't the type to bother with actively referring to someone with respect, however during Punk Hazard, there are moments where Luffy forgets Law's name and starts calling him "Tora-o," Tora being short for the Japanese pronunciation for Trafalgar (tora-faru-gahh) followed by another central/northern slang used as an honorific in this case. Now, Luffy could have used any semi-formal honorific that's more common in the standard Japanese dialect, such as "Tora-yatsu," "Tora-yarou" or literally anything else, but he goes with the "-o" which just happens to be in the same family of slang as "-ya," basically reciprocating Law's signal of respect for him. If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure Traffy has a visceral reaction to hearing Luffy call him Tora-o the first time because he wasn't expecting to hear something like that. Coming back to Robin, she is an intensely polite person who goes out of her way to show deference for people she meets in a way that Japanese children are typically raised to (especially reinforced for girls), which is to refer to people with a "-san" after their name (Nami-san, Zoro-san, she even refers to Chopper as "sen-i-san," or "Mr. Ship Doctor"). This would be similar in the west if you were to refer to everyone you meet as Mr./Miss [Last name or title]. Robin also has a sense of humor and kind of enjoys the fact that Luffy refers to Law as Tora-o, so out of respect for her captain AND in accordance to her politeness, she calls Law "Tora-o-san." The "-o" is supposed to fully replace "-san" in the casual slang they're using, but it is also not LITERALLY the same as saying "-san" which is why Robin must still use it. This would be like calling him "Mr. Traffy" in English, which is just absurd gremlin-like behavior. Robin is smart enough to fully understand this and does it anyway, because ROBIN IS THE FUNNIEST CHARACTER IN ONE PIECE. Anyway, I hope this can help someone else love her character as much as I do :)
@@i.f.a2132she shows emotion, when talking about emotional things... how dare she? For real though... Murphy analises changed the way I viewed the series
Thank you for your content. One piece forces me to prject emotions so strongly, and your analysis resonates with me. Got me crying halfway through half your videos lol.
I can't stop crying whenever Chopper's storyline chapters comes at the screen it just so genuinely painful and kind story he has and I will never get through his story even though I have seen it so many times I will cry like a crybaby I loved every breifness you give on One Piece you always paint your perspectives so lovingly and beautifully❤ I wish you would make a great video on the relation between Robin and Brook too or maybe I can see a great ideological video of Day one Of Brook on Straw Hat Ship from you especially when Robin understood Brook insecurities very well and let her comfort Words soothe Brook for the acceptance he needed from the crew ❤ There's a deep and respectable friendly connection between Brook and Robin and even in Wano we saw this two underrated duo working together and saw a great acceptance from Robin resting on Brooks shoulders ❤ Thank you Melon ❤ Stay blessed 🙌 😇
I love the new style! I really love your persona you've used before, but having a human face makes relating and connecting so much better. And with those glasses its impossible to not love it! Props for having the courage! I'll miss the old style though...
Great video as usual and oh my God the glasses! Also, I like how Mel just casually reworked the monster trio. I guess it makes sense since Sanji is an OG member now with "evil" super soldier serum, Chopper literally has a form with the name monster in it, and Robin has been known as a demon her whole life. Meanwhile, Luffy is a god and Zoro is more of a monster slayer than a monster himself at this point. Enjoy your holiday and I look forward to whatever comes next!
I'm a little late to this one, but I wanted to leave a comment to thank you for your videos. I've always been a big fan of Sanji, loved him more for the subtle things than for his big up-front persona. Fell off a bit after Fishman Island thinking the character wasn't going to be salvaged then coming back to love him again, but feeling guilty for it. Your perspective has really helped make that guilt go away. I don't talk about Sanji much with my friends anymore, I know what responses I'll get, but any time I want to "discuss" him, I know I can come back to your videos and find a kindred spirit who gets it. I was excited for this video (even though I came late. Real life, man 😅) because Robin is like right near Sanji for me and to click and get both made my day. It's not specific to this video of course (and at this point this comment will probably get buried - my bad!) but I just wanted to thank you for letting me love my favorite character again.
I was actually gonna comment about the Doffy sunglasses in one video but I am now satisfied that you have them :D Maybe you can just do a small intro with them, take them off then get into it? Keep slaying queen.
Click melontree video with Robin on banner, wonder how long it takes to become about sanji and then you reference the fact you are prone to doing it prior to doing it. Well done Mel, great vid, really enjoyed the format and I think having your face in all them will help people connect to you and make your growth super big since the quality is already super good.
Finally some analysis on one of the most overlooked parts of the Water 7 arc plus some love for the Sanji-Chopper team up! Every serious OP reader should be listening to you about re-reading the manga because Oda's recontextualization game is second to none! Also love hearing your Monsters analysis knowing that Sanji's isn't done yet. Gives me hope that the Death Pact wasn't just done for the sake of a gag. Safe travels and enjoy your trip!
Another great vid, excellent work. You really nailed it at the end with "Tending crops before planting new seeds." So few people understand that about writing. No one knows the whole story inside and out when they start creating, so the key is to be aware of what you want to build to and to be aware of what you wrote all ready. An excellent analogy I'm going to be stealing from you for sure, lol.
I am all in for the Doffy glasses. I enjoy consuming one piece content and I enjoy hearing your thoughts on the series. Sometimes it is hard to believe I've been reading the manga for 23 years and still enjoy all things related to it.
It is crazy how I've been watching One Piece for 10 years now and I've rewatched it at least 3 times... and I'm still discovering new things about it... that's how deep Oda's writing goes. Man I cried fr. Thanks for the vid.
First off I'd love to meet you in person and talk about our favorite characters and moments for hours! I have a deep love for the deeper meaning and digging deeper than just the surface level!
another banger video 🥲 also love little cheering brushbug at the start. i just loveeee the robin/sanji/chopper parallels theyre so delicious thank youu
Robin is my favorite character ever, so i really liked this video about Sanji♥ ( Joke aside, found your channel recently and i really like your work, thanks, have nice holidays ! :)
Started re-reading on March 8th, after Toriyama's death was announced. I had been wanting to for a while and it seemed like the right time to start. THERE IS SO MUCH REVEALED EARLY ON THAT YOU JUST CAN'T UNDERSTAND IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY READ THE MANGA!
hello! first time commenting hehehe! thanks for this video, it was really really great! your insight is always so interesting to hear!!! your attention to details is absolutely incredible and brings to light things that make so much sense. i like going back to the stuff that i've already seen or read because my brain is wired like that, the familiar being more comforting and relaxing than the unknown - still, you point things out that i didn't really catch, intricacies as you call them, because i only have two working brain cells, so thank you so much! water seven/enies lobby is my favourite arc, i've rewatched it many many times through the years, it feels like such a pivotal arc to me. i've rewatched it after i finished reading and watching whole cake island some years ago and something that you didn't say in this video but that struck to me in regards to robin and sanji's connection, is what lucci says in the train, when sanji, usopp and franky manage to get robin back in chapter 373. lucci "explains" robin's life and says, "some people are just born under unlucky stars... the best thing they can do for the world is die." and in the next page he says, "for as long as she can remember, her existence has been a crime. the only way she can make people happy is by disappearing." yeah. way harsh. that kinda leaves sanji speechless. then lucci goes on to say that he's happy robin's finally going to die and sanji throws a kick at him in anger, which, same. but anyways, i feel like sanji reacts like that because he's triggered, even though him and robin are on opposite ends of the spectrum; robin being a threat to the government for being too knowledgeable and powerful and sanji being seen as a failure for being human by his blood family. in chapter 840, when sanji gets locked up and calls for judge's help, a soldier tells him that it was judge's decision to put him there and that "he (judge) wants to make it so you were never born." in the following chapter, sanji's brothers find him and niji asks why judge faked sanji's death and ichiji replies with, "probably because he wished sanji was dead." and yonji says, "you mean if he really does die, father will be happy?" and they proceed to beat sanji up and i sob. last but not least, the scene where judge catches sanji stealing the key to his iron mask and tells sanji he's his greatest shame, that he couldn't kill him but that he's happy to let him go. that's why i think lucci's words resonate deep within sanji in that moment and that when sanji tells him to shut his mouth, when he throws that kick at lucci, he does it for robin but also a little bit for his younger self too! sorry if that's a reach but i remember having to pause the episode to collect myself when i rewatched that part with sanji's backstory in mind. when you encouraged us to join the retrospective club at the beginning of the video, it reminded me of that realisation and isn't it fitting with the actual theme of the video, haha!!! can't wait for your next video and congrats for 300K subs! you deserve it so much!!! 💜
great vid! really interesting new insights. i feel like you could even connect Sanji’s line about forgiving women’s lies to his love for his mother and her lies of love(to Judge about suppressing the kids’ modifications, to Sanji about the ruined food)
Great video as always! I 100% agree that Oda's way to reframe scenes years later is what makes me go insane, it's what makes me apricate Whole Cake so much. To know that Sanji's past was fraught with so much heartbreak and torture, serves to inform about parts of his character while not overshadowing the significance of his connection with Zeff. Since while his love for cooking may have started in the most horrible time in his life, he was able to gain new interests beyond it such as Zeff's lessons about respecting women which eventually evolved into loving all women. Making the scene in which Sanji leaves the Baratie just the bit more sweeter, and the scenes of Whole Cake hurt more as Sanji holds that memory as a source of comfort when he is sacrificing his dreams and self for Zeff once again. I also think alot about the fight Vivi and Luffy's had outside of Alubarna, knowing more about Luffy after Marineford. Since it's one of the few times before knowing about his past, that he is putting his foot down on a matter that is close to him. Not only about his friend isn't putting their full trust in him and the crew after everything, but she is willing to give up her own life because she feels alone. Knowing that Luffy feeling alone is the thing he hates the most in life makes that scene hit harder when given the context. Luffy knows how it feels to be alone and powerless against things are frighteningly stronger than you. So he knows that what got him out of that bleak mindset was someone close to you punching you and telling you "So what are you going to do about it", even if harsh, he knows Vivi has a fighter's spirit and knows it can help ignite her will to fight because he's been there. While Luffy has been that way with so many characters he sees himself in from Coby to Shirahoshi to Law to Momo to Katakuri to Tama. With Vivi it feels as thought is when Oda knew what he wanted Luffy's past to look like in service for the fight but also for the eventual flashback, as it's also the arc where Ace showed up. There are so many more scenes, but those two will always be on my mind when I think about what makes One Piece's character feel more realized in their own world. Knowing there is a consistently even if we don't have the full context and if there isn't then means we are can be shown a new perspective. As always your videos put a smile on my face and a tingling in my brain, just like One Piece itself. And much like One Piece, even if there is a bit of a wait before the next one I am more than happy knowing you are getting your rest. So once more Great Video!
Yessss MelonTee! Your content is amazing and for some reason your showing your face compelled me to comment. I guess that's what faces do? My fav One Piece content by far!
Boss makes a fortune I make a dime, so I´ll always watch new MelonTee on work time. Especially if its a Robin vid. Nah fr this video was AWESOME, the connections you made for THE REAL MONSTER TRIO where so beautiful yet tragic they almost made me tear up at some points🤣. Amazing work as always
The first scene of the very next chapter was my absolute favorite when I reread after 1044. The deliberate choices made in how the crew was split up is magical.
I can't wait for the Oden video, I don't know when it's coming, but a lore junkie like you prob has a lot to say about him and his story is one my favorites. Love your work, thank you!
Thank god I got this video out in time! I'll be going on holiday's starting tomorrow, and I'll be back June 28th! So I was hoping to give you guys one last video while I'm gone, and I made it! Please enjoy it!
Thanks for the video!

Gotta remind myself of this with my rpg campaigns

The thing I miss about the old format are the hilarious edits, but you're fun to watch so big fat pink flurid head re-format is fine too!
I suppose these edits made videos longer to do so it might also upload videos more quickly
Robin didn't need to be on Whole Cake Island to see Sanji try to martyr himself, because Nami was there. And she's the original one that did that, and we see her response.
"Stop tearing apart arcs into microarcs" finally someone said it 😂
I even see people separating the end of Water 7 as "Post-Enies Lobby Arc" 😂
Arcs means STORY ARCS not “in a specific location for a while” !
According to the One Piece wiki, Water 7 is a saga that includes both the Water 7 arc and the Enies Lobby arc.

What about brook tho? Dont forget my skelly mentally insane grandpa
Hospital gets its name from hospitality, which is Sanji’s profession.
I love how Melon saw Sanji's thread going around about he not being kind to people, and she decided to make a whole video about how kind he is.

Recently someone at work told me they stopped watching One Piece because there's "no character development". And if I didn't have you and this community, I probably would've felt angry and alienated. Thanks for what you do and for bringing us together (:
Thank you! I'm glad to help push One Piece's greatness!! 💪💪
It's controversial because a lot of anime fans are essentially toxic incels that think that women are abominable (or something like that) so they see Sanji that treats women well indiscriminately, regardless of physical beauty or potential for a relationship as a simp and a weak man
@@Red_The_Duck A sad state of affairs.
Melon and Merphy actually make the most emotionally intelligent one piece content it's so good
I should've known you're a Merphy fan. You're so Napier coated.
Respect.
im so happy when someone brings up that sanji's storyline is not over and his mutation still being a problem bc it gives validity to my interpretation that the writing behind the all blue for sanji is about getting to see it, even if barely bc he has had to struggle so much and even now he will still be in trouble of changing. The whole point is that he has to fight to remain the same sanji that smiled to luffy while talking about the all blue.
I love how you can understand many things about most characters when you rewatch one piece. But, I love how sensitive you are at picking and selecting some themes.
Truly passionate work ❤

What is weird is that both Robin and Chopper ended accepting their "darkness" their "monsters", while Sanji rejected it.
I rather consider it interesting.
Chopper found pride in it, because he managed to overcome the monsterous part of him.
Meanwhile Robin is just a label put on her by others which she took up essentially saying "So what? Screw you! Luffy's gonna be king of the pirates!"
The label lost the danger, because straw hats are there.

So happy to see a deep dive on this scene. Incredible how w7 is such a good arc that even this scene gets passed under the radar
Fantastic vid as always, when i read this scene i was more impressed with sanji picking up on the robins lies and imedietly planning a way to save her, but never realy thought about the significance of those 3 together, i love how each crew member has a difirent conection and moment with each other.

Also I love how much more meaning the "monster" connection between Robin and Sanji adds to the moment in Wano with Maria and Robin when she tells Maria "You don't need to know what it means that Sanji relied on me for help"

Also I'm sorry for the following essay, but it has to do with Japanese regional slang and an extra aspect of Robin's humor, at least as represented in the anime:
Trafalgar Law generally speaks in proper Japanese (raised by doctors, remember) but as an adult he picked up some colloquial mannerisms that fit the northern Japanese dialect, chiefly how he follows up calling certain people's names with a "-ya" at the end.
I enjoyed reading this - damn Robin is such a menace

It’s really hard to speak that smoothly and insightfully on camera. Impressive and thoughtful video.
Incredible video as always!
Thank you so much for the support! You're so generous! 😭🩷
Loved this one. It hit me in a different level especially since Water 7 and Robin are my absolute favourite.
