      And automatically shut them down and put the money in a trust to help the public pay for credit monitoring. I was part of the Equifax hack years ago and they only had to pay for a year of credit monitoring, meanwhile my stuff is on the black market FOREVER. It's absolutely ridiculous.

    I have had my credit frozen with all three of those credit report agencies. There is really nothing else I can do. These companies shouldn't have this information period.

I received mine when I turned 16, the age when we are legally allowed to work. They are not issued at birth. The breach of SSN numbers would not affect SIN numbers, unless they targeted Canada as well.

      This is probably the ONE industry that I would actually like the government to maintain control over! Get rid of all of the reporting agencies and data brokers, reset the identity number system to something far more secure than SSNs, and never look back! Congress would have a vested interest with their information in a central system!

We're basically forced to give up personal information to apply for anything and told to protect our information but the companies don't protect it and now we have to go through extra precautions to protect it again!       Oh, crap, that explains another recent issue! I’ve been getting a call like twice a day, from different phone numbers each time, asking me to call back about a late payment. It’s B.S. because I haven’t been late on a damn thing in over 7 years! I also had to call about a credit card transaction not going through a couple of days ago and was warned of fraudulent activity and had a card reissued! This is with everything on lockdown too! Be careful.

    I don't know if it is still a thing but they used to ask for my social security number on job applications and I would write in available upon hire. I knew those companies didn't lock up those applications, just leaving them out on a desk for anyone to see.

      @@JamesCat-qx6sb call each one of the credit bureaus and ask them to "freeze" your credit reports (EQUIFAX, EXPERIAN, AND TRANSUNION). They will ask a few questions to verify your identity. They will send you a letter in mail to confirm that it's frozen. You can "unfreeze" it at any time you want to.

      This does lower the risk of getting your identity technically.
      But it doesn't eliminate the risk because everyone uses digital, services every government. It all exists on a server somewhere.
      You can avoid the digital stuff sure but it doesn't guarantee anything, best practice Is to monitor your information.

    Read the 1979 social security privacy act.,.. they change the law in 2018 with the new update to the 1979 law... seems like this was done on purpose... It is up to you to do your due diligence to keep your information private at all costs and you don't have recourse or remedy through ignorance of voluntary consent

      Reported wrongly. It was 2.9 billion rows of database info. Each row is one record, like a person's address. Another row could be someone's SS number, etc.... Doesn't matter, most USA residents info was in that database!

    Screw this cyber security guy. I didn't even watch the video. I have not had my data leaked because of anything I've ever done. Why should i do anything different? Should i have not signed up for tmobile all that time ago? I should have just told experian i dont need a credit rating, right?
