Cafeteria Catholics & Chastity

  • There are many “cafeteria Catholics” in the Church today. They choose to believe or to reject Divine Revelation as one would choose or reject items at a buffet. They can often be identified by the doctrines they deny, the morals they reject, and the material they read. However, to have the theological virtue of Faith means to accept ALL that God reveals, - the entirety of the Catholic Faith -, based on His authority. One particular infallible teaching which many today find hard to accept, even amidst faithful Catholics, is the objective superiority of the celibate clerical life (and consecrated virginity) over married life. Great purity and holiness is needed to solve the problem of worldly corruption. Consecrated celibates are destined and expected to attain the highest perfection and thus help others. For more please visit reginaprophetar... & remember to say 3 Hail Marys for the priest

    I'm currently prepping for Holy Matrimony and NO ONE, not one has mentioned the importance of chasitity and it's blessings on your future marriage and child rearing. Our pre-cana class actually entered grave error when the instructing couple encouraged the denial of the marriage debt! Lack of chastity is just one of the many virtues that many catholics today are choosing to live without with devastating results for them, their families and the mystical body of Christ.

    As a sincere practicing catholic Christian and a Knight of Columbus,
    I stand up for all the teachings of the Catholic Christian faith such as saying no to abortion rights, saying no to LGBT rights, saying no to premarital sex, saying no to conceiving a child out of wedlock and so on. With that being said, there's nothing and no one that can change my mind on my Catholic Christian theological views.

    Carbon 10 of the Council of Trent teaches this:
    “If anyone says that the married state excels the state of virginity or celibacy, and that it is better and happier to be united in matrimony than to remain in virginity or celibacy,[15] let him be anathema (excommunicated)”
    When Jesus was pressed by the Pharisees on a woman who had seven husbands before she herself died - trying to determine which one was the husband - Jesus Himself says that no one will be married in Heaven (Matthew 22:30).
    Priests are ahead of the curve basically. Good sermon Father 🙌

    Even though celibate clerical state or religious vacation is objectively superior to marriage, would it be correct to say that they only superior for a particular person if one is called by God to that state. Vocational discernment is important. More people are called to married life than to the priesthood or religious life.

    • @Archangel251
      @Archangel251 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s not to discredit marriage. Marriage is a beautiful thing; it’s a beautiful vocation.
      But it should never be elevated above celibacy or chastity. In the Kingdom of Heaven, no one will marry nor be given in marriage (Matthew 22:30).

    What is wrong with Word on Fire? Sometimes I think some of these priests are soooo traditionalist, that they throw out the baby, with the bathwater, and the soap! I know we need to follow the teachings of the church, but some of these speeches come across as some Catholics are better than others. (Sort of like the Pharisee and the sinner) They have a seniority complex that is damaging to the church and the faithful. I am not talking about vocations, but simple attitude and humility towards others.

      @Marie Just Marie I struggled with the same thoughts. I wanted to read modern books, because they are easier. I knew that parts of them were poor teaching, but I excused myself, thinking, I'll just nibble the edges, eat the parts that aren't rotten.
      Lately, I've realised how short is my life. We have so little time and God is so great. We can never learn all His wonders, so why waste time with anything less than excellent? We have so much trustworthy teaching from the Saints that we could read the rest of our lives and never run out of reading material. With so much to learn, so much to adore, how can we possibly be content with less than the best? We have a banquet of Catholic teaching. We shouldn't ruin our appetite by filling up at McDonald's beforehand.

    • @gray_mara
      @gray_mara 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @awe yea I think Fulton Sheen's Life of Christ should be required reading, along with St Bonaventure's Life of Christ. The Carmelite Directory of the Spiritual Life is easy to read and a sure guide to a Catholic life. Anything by St Alphonsus is exceptional, but his little booklet, "Uniformity with the will of God" is life changing. And if you want to read one paragraph at a time and spend the whole day in astonished prayer, St Bernard on the Song of Songs. It's too beautiful for words, almost too beautiful to bear.

    • @jefffinkbonner9551
      @jefffinkbonner9551 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's exactly what I was thinking. It is a condemned statement by Bl. Pius IX to hold a reasonable hope that all are saved. While we certainly hope for the salvation of all souls, the wording rather implies that we have some sort of firm assurance that objectively all are actually saved.

    • @Spike294
      @Spike294 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We certainly hope, of course. A firm assurance all everywhere are saved we certainly have not, as we know how wicked men can be.
      He mentions Three to Get Married, though. The ideal should be the norm, of course. I don't condemn him for his view of marriage, he's pretty firm with that, unless I'm missing some nuance somewhere (I've watched a lot of his videos, he helped me reconvert to Catholicism from Protestantism). As for homosexuality, that area does need careful attention. We need to hold to our view that marriage and the raising of children is for man and woman, of course, but it is still an area that requires careful handling.

      Everyone should be chaste, yes. Not everyone can be celibate, however. A faithful married person can be chaste without being celibate. To be chaste just means to be faithful in your state in life, to give your heart and your body only to the one to whom you are bound to share yourself. For married people, this means enjoying married life with their spouse. For celibate religious, it means giving themselves entirely to God.

    This is VERY demeaning.. not very Catholic in my opinion. The church is meant to preach love and this video is basically telling people to judge other Catholics AND act superior to them! In Luke chapter 18, Jesus tells a parable about a tax collector and a pharisee. The two men walk into the temple. The pharisee prays about how much better he is than the tax collector. Meanwhile the tax collector begs for mercy. The Lord has mercy on the tax collector. We should not act like the pharisee, and look through people's mail to find out if they are "cafeteria Catholics"

      @williamschultz104 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Kayla Tavares of course we can make value judgements, how else would we do good and reject evil. God expects this of us, it's called having an informed conscience. Be perfect even as your Father in heaven is perfect!

    • @mikaylatavares5705
      @mikaylatavares5705 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Again, I disagree. I understand what you're saying, of course we should reject evil. In my opinion, however, that does not mean we are called to judge our brothers and sisters in Christ. Jesus' callings for us are not complicated it roots down to everything he says in scripture. There are COUNTLESS times that God reminds us not to judge others. I gave one example earlier (Luke chapter 18). Another is when the woman who committed adultery was being stoned and Jesus said "He who has never sinned may throw the first stone". We are never called to judge one another. I assume you know the seven virtues. No where, on that list, does judgement even come close to appearing. Love and kindness are the virtues God wants us to live up to.
