    2 addendums:
    1.) I have been surprised to learn that it turns out the Gen 4 comes with the equivalent of Beretta's match hammer instead of just the elite II skeletonized hammer. It drastically reduces pretravel and I discovered this by installing it on a different 92 out of curiosity. I'm embarrassed I didn't notice offhand.
    2.) Not so great: the decock only spring broke after long stress. I want to make it clear: I dry fire for nearly half an hour every single day and sometimes more with a strong focus on the DA pull for obvious reasons. bottom line is I personally subject these components to much wear. No problem, it happens, springs wear out, this is normal.
    When disassembling the slide to install a replacement spring however, I discovered the firing pin was broken. It had split into not one, not two, but three pieces. My brain says the three number is not right, that it points to some kind of metallurgy problem instesd of user error, but I just don't know. Whatever
    It's like a $20 part. I happen to know Beretta does not even manufacture their own firing pins, and I suspect given Girsans previous history with Beretta itself may be procuring firing pins from the same source, so has anyone heard of this happening to Beretta firing pins in this same way, a triple fracture?

    Girsan was making the 92 fs model for the beretta a long time ago, after the deal was over, they started making their own models and selling them all over the world.

    Having a small boat Navy background, I can tell you I love having a lanyard loop... (You don't want to be "that guy" that drops your pistol overboard!)

    • @RocketPropelledGuy
      @RocketPropelledGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's true, but this model isn't really marketed as being intended to be a service pistol, the whole point of it is premium higher-end features, that is my objection to the lanyard loop on on this model.
      On the other hand I can understand it keeps it cheaper...

    Hey the Italian 92s all use rollpins! I remember my first time taking apart my first handgun, a 92A1, and not having a punch set and being confused because all of the youtube guides showed people pushing out the pin with ease. Bought a Stanley punch set that day from the hardware store: worst set of punches I've had the displeasure of interacting with. These days, first chance I get I usually swap them out with the dog-bone pin

      I didn't know that! All the ones I've had already had the dog-bone, but all but 1 of those was purchased used, the other was an Elite LTT.

      Did you get it milled for a red dot?

    Great video and you have a great technical aptitude. That trigger pull what a difference night and day great for a competition pistol. I own 2 of these regards and for my purposes. The trigger is great factory. I may do a little polishing on them. But other than that I don't believe that I would alter the mechanics of it. I believe originally they wanted that long smooth heavy double action trigger pull for safety reasons. But if you're just a range or a competition shooter then this is an excellent upgrade. The only thing that concerns me a bit is that Is firing pin safety bar are not raising up out of the top of the slide. Once again excellent video.

      Thanks very much!
      With the firing pin block, what's going on is the Girsan firing pin block lever is slightly different from a Beretta one in one area. The lower section which the trigger bar contacts (the upper portion that contacts the block itself is identical or so close it is negligible) is a little bit shorter length-wise so it will actually begin pushing the block out of the way when closer to the "wall" of the sear spring during the single action pre-travel then on a genuine 92.
      The block itself is identical and I have found both or either exchange without issue onto a 92 and the reverse. It definitely might look suspect and did to me at first too. I tried to demonstrate in the video that despite that it more than adequately clears the firing pin channel at the time of hammer release. While holding the trigger back so the block is raised to the point the trigger bar actually will raise it I pushed the firing pin forward with either an object or finger (I forget which I used in the video) so that the recess in the pin is ahead of the block and released the trigger. It will come down, but still be noticably raised since the recess is not below it since the pin is pushed forward. That is the actual minimum space physically needed and when the trigger is pulled all the way to the rear it will be visibly higher than that by what looks like at least 2mm, I can't say I actually measured the difference. That's good to have a bit above the minimum space as we don't want the two surfaces grinding against each other, especially on the edges of them.
      That shorter section is the reason why the factory reset is shorter than the standard 92.
      Either that or I happened to receive one that had that part grossly out of spec which is why I didn't bring it up in the video, but everything else is very well fitted so I doubt it. I'd just buy a several Girsan firing pin block levers to compare but they are not to be had and me buying another Regard just to test that part would be dumb.
      I have a lot to say about the significance of weight vs distance of trigger travel as they relate to safety and this reply is already really long, so I won't get into it unless you want me to.

    never thought the girsan version of the beretta performance model needed any upgrades but nothing wrong with it its a question of what works for you

    Is it quite straightforward to get the slide milled for a red dot? If so, any suggestions of any plates etc?

    Your grip cover looks blue but I see black on other pictures - did you buy the cover blue and replace or what? I only see one SKU on the website

    This video is the only video of any actual worth I've been able to find.
    I just ordered a couple Regard models like yours except for the decocker is down on the frame, as it started out in Brazil in the early 80s.
    Do you think that will keep me from being able to install Crimson Trace grips?

    • @RocketPropelledGuy
      @RocketPropelledGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I'm aware of Girsan does not manufacture any iteration of the regard with a frame mounted decocker, that is the domain of the Brazilian PT 92 family alone.
      Did you mean a frame mounted manual safety? They do make a few of those, the Gen 3 for instance. Unfortunately, unless the crimson trace grips were for a frame safety version already (they will have a noticable cut to make room for the levers.) my guess is no.

    Why is the take down lever not level on your video?

    • @RocketPropelledGuy
      @RocketPropelledGuy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These come with the equivalent of Beretta's Competition Self-Locking Disassembly Lever. It doubles as a support hand thumbrest. Well, if you're right handed it does. It actually feels more helpful than you might expect.

      I apologize for not seeing this comment until now but TH-cam is very finicky about posting external URLs. Searching for "Langdon Tactical Optimized performance trigger bar" should bring it right up. As flr the lighter hammer spring, it shall be at the same domain in a different section of the site. Hope that helps!
