Manchester Marathon 2024 - Race Day - Can I get a Good For Age time for London 25? - MAN - GFA - LDN

- The big day is here. Nothing left to do except leave everything out there on the course. Let's go!
After running my first ever sub 3 hour marathon last year I got a good for age place for London. Somehow I managed to double book myself and I am now busy on the London Marathon weekend. So I’m just going to have to prove it wasn’t a fluke and earn another Good For Age place for 2025. This is my attempt to get from Manchester 2024 to London 2025 via Good For Age.

Crocs man here. Great to meet you out on the course. You smashed it! and finished much stronger than me lol
I’ve no idea how you did that. Amazing work. How were the feet???
Thanks Chris. Great to meet you and chat on the way round. You delivered the line of the race: "it's like running on hot coals" haha. Hope your feet didn't take too much of a battering and you've been resting up well.
@@ob1brand hahaha it really was like running on hot coals, i think it'll take weeks for my feet to recover lol. p.s. congrats on 1k subs!
Brett met your afterwards, outside the Adidas area. gentleman. Thanks for your time🙌🏾, my wife has the photo now👍🏾 strangely i also met Mack prior. So nice we give time for others, even a minute or two. Once you start running, the community grips you and even though the time is important for us, it's the community and people that make it. 💙
It was great to meet you too. Apologies it took so long to get over to you. My legs didn't quite want to play ball after getting up of the mat with the roller haha. That is so true I have met some amazing people through running that I would never have crossed paths with otherwise. Hope you are healing up ok after your fall in the early miles. You showed great grit to get back up and finish strong
Brilliant to have two bites of the cherry at meeting you in person! You clearly got the marathon out of the way as quickly as possible so you could meet and greet at the end 🙂 And what a brilliant run. Hardly a second out of place. The stuff marathon execution dreams are made of. Hope our paths cross again soon.
It was so good to meet you both! Gutted that John had to pull out but you did it for the right reasons so that Dawn could battle it out and beat Manchester this year. Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm so happy with how I managed to run it. Hopefully see you at another race soon.
Great run and a great video 😀 well done. The elation at the finish line of you and all the runners around you was just fantastic 😀
Thank you Claire. That was a pretty special five minutes at the finish line seeing all the other runners go sub 3
Phenomenal scenes. You make me want to run. It's midnight right now, but I literally want to go out for a run because watching you run, makes me want to go and run better than yesterday. Amazing work - so cool under pressure. Pressure is for tyres 👊🏻
Thank you my man. It was an incredible day. Hope you went out for that run, I mean, midnight is as good a time as any. Oh, and I'm stealing that last line!
I love that classic TH-cam line at the start of the race. I was saying it along with you, "Manchester marathon 2024 let's go! ".
You showed how it's done, throughout the training and the race. Absolute class 👌 Really pleased for you. Well done!
You do know who started that classic TH-cam line? 🤔
@@PoetWithPace I'm honestly not sure mate 🤔
@@markg99 if you are watching London Marathon on BBC sport tomorrow, watch for the opening montage to the show 🤩
Thank you Mark and thanks for your support throughout the training
Brilliant job mate 👏 👍 and another great series. Couldn't help welling up at the end of your race video 😢😂 So happy for you. Inspiring stuff!
Thank you David. thanks for watching and your support throughout the block
Many congratulations Brett, what an amazing time, so pleased for you and it's great to know that you have your place secured for London next year (i will be running London tomorrow, can't wait). Thanks for all the great videos during your training block.
Thank you Debbie. Fingers crossed that time is good enough now that they've brought the GFA times down. We'll wait and see. Have the best time in London and have a great race. Enjoy the atmosphere
Well done Brett! Loved following the series and the podcast
Thank you Ross. Thanks for watching and listening. Much appreciated
Amazing Brett!! Hope you enjoyed that Five Guys after you definitely earned that one. Great work.
Thank you. The Five Guys on Monday was amazing and definitely the right choice
Absolutely insane there mate, cracking video, can’t believe you still managed to talk every single mile 😂 pure madness and great to see, mad happy for you 🎉🎉
Thank you Ryan. Talking takes your mind off the pain haha. It's still sinking in and I'm still buzzing from it.
Great Video Bret! Can see me in it a few times. Find it really insightful that when I was really struggling on 25 miles and remember running near you, thinking you looked far more comfortable than me… but the video really shows the battle you were going through too and working so hard for it!!! Great run!!!
Absolutely fantastic running Brett!! Seeing all the training videos recently have been great fun to follow and your finish time in Manchester was a testament to all those hours of hard work. I saw you cross the finish line on the TH-cam live feed on the day and could see your reaction. Just brilliant 🎉
Never in doubt. Brilliant
Thank you Matt. Super stoked with how it went
Great running sir. That's hugely impressive. You seemed in great nick all through this video.
Thank you. I'm super happy with how it went. Talking to the camera takes your mind off it and allows you to ignore some of the pain haha
Well done Brett! Deserved after all them tough sessions
Thank you Jordan. The hard work through the winter definitely paid off
Congratulations Brett. I'm really happy for you. I'm gutted I didn't see you at the end I was a bit spaced out after the finish and didn't think to check near the bag drop area. Cant tell you how much I enjoy your videos and journey. They help me train consistently and I take a lot of inspiration from you. Helps make the working weeks so much better looking forward to your content. Always good to watch them after a run with feet up and a cuppa. Thank you. 🦵👌🏆🥇💪😎
Thank you so much and thank you for the kind words. It's a great feeling to know that my videos are motivating people to get out there and run. Running has become such a big part of my life I just want people to feel the same joy I get from it. More races and videos coming soon so plenty for you to watch will a well earned cuppa and maybe a few biscuits too
Great running Brett. Congratulations on a fantastic time.
Thank you and thanks for watching. I'm still buzzing from it all
Best video yet Brett , congrats on another great performance. Inspiring me to enter a marathon soon 👍
Thank you. Appreciate the kind words. If I can motivate people to get out there and push themselves then I'm a happy guy. Do it. Marathons are hard but it will be well worth it
We appreciate the speedy editing to get these all out. Smooooth performance, dude. You mastered Manchester, for sure!
Thanks man. Editing was a bit of a slog this week haha. Manchester now has a special place in my heart.
Inspiration stuff mate, amazing run and huge congrats! Been watching your channel since you started the block. You are a genuine and down to earth guy and couldn't be happier for you. Make me want to train harder even more for my race in Valencia
Brilliant effort mate. Well done! 👍
Thank you. I'm still buzzing
Nice video Brett and congratulations, brought me back, what am amazing day. It was my first full marathon in 4hr 27 mins, loved every minute.
Congratulations! Fabulous run!
Thank you Marcus
Well done, lovely to see such a strong finish. The support along the way was amazing wasn't it.
Thank you Helen. The support there was incredible. Especially through the city centre and Altrincham. Hope you had a great race
Mate I'm so glad I wasn't the only one looming around like a meerkat trying to find you 😂😂😂
Haha I spent so long going backwards and forwards on the same bit of road. Then gave up when they said a couple of minutes to go but spent that time in the start pen on my tiptoes looking for you hat haha
Impressive running Brett. Strong to the finish. I think you must have passed me in the last mile. I got 2 56 05. I'm more than happy with that
Thank you. Managing to finish strong is the thing I'm most proud of. Congratulations on a great run. 2:56 is an amazing time
Congratulations Brett what an absolute fantastic time. Excellent pacing really consistent and you stayed strong at the end which was different from last year. What a day it was
Well done again and maybe see you at arrow valley
Incredible performance! Well done Brett
Congrats...enjoy the medal 😉
Thank you Gary. You'll be pleased to know I've put it pride of place next to all my other bits of tin haha
What a great achievement mate.
You should be so proud. Also, can I just say as someone who knows nothing about running this was a great watch, really enjoyed all the way to the end. I hope you keep going with the channel, you’re great at it.
Thank you man. Your comment has made me feel all smiley and warm inside
Really enjoyed watching your training block Brett - literally on the edge on my seat as I watched the race - delighted for you - your really deserve it for all your hard work and dedication - I thought the race footage was excellent as well - looking forward to part 2 in London🥳
Thank you. Thanks for watching and following the series. I'm over the moon with what I managed to achieve. Fingers crossed I've done enough for a London place as I can't wait to get back out there
Well Done Brett! Impressive Time 👍
Thank you. I'm well happy with what I managed to do
you should be mate, i love ur videos and its great to watch ur journey❤
Superb Brett! It’s been great seeing you progress over the past 12 months and having the pleasure to see you at build up races and here at Manchester before the start and at the finish. Simply amazing! 🏆
Thank you Donato. Was great to see you at so many events in the lead up to this race and then to see you before and after on the day. Congratulations on a great run from yourself. PB!
@@ob1brand thank you Brett 👍🏼
Amazing running Brett you guys are inspiring 👍😁
Absolutely amazing Brett 👏💪 definitely given me a lift for London watching you run and film 😮 so deserved 👍
Thank you man. Hope you have an amazing day in London. Soak up every bit of that atmosphere and enjoy every mile
Great training block well earned💪💪
Utterly brilliant Brett! It was ace to see you so euphoric at the end. So well deserved after all your training. Massive congratulations 👏👏👏🏅🔥
Thank you Dean. I am super stoked with the result. Crossing that finish line was a massive high
Absolutely amazing running, that pacing was spot on though out.
All those hard training sessions paid off yet again.
Well done pal
Thank you. I'm still not sure how I managed to keep the pacing so even haha. All the hard work through winter definitely helped big time so well worth the effort.
Incredible run Brett!! I was just behind you until 18 then blew up. Very inspired by your journey -let’s go!!
Thank you. It's been a tough but rewardable journey. The marathon is a cruel beast sometimes and it looks like you felt its wrath this time. Hopefully it didn't ruin your race too much and you'll bounce back for the next one.
You were in control and produced a fantastic result! Great buzz around Altrincham. I found the conditions perfect and was happy to deliver a negative split.
Thank you Rod. I'm over the moon with the time. Altrincham was fantastic. Congratulations on a great race, a negative split is the thing of dreams
Brilliant vlogging and excellent running, Brett. It was great to see how happy you were at the finish.
👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you man. That finish line feeling is something I won't forget
got a nice 30 km run this morning. Six weeks out for me! 28:32
Hope you had a great run. Best of luck for six weeks time
Brett, I really enjoyed that. Found your channel today via Andy’s. You’re one of the few TH-camrs I’ve seen who knows what pace you have trained for, has endured it is a realistic pace, and has started a marathon at that actual pace. Well done. Great video and brilliant time!
Thank you Conrad and thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it. That was the most important thing for my target this year, being realistic and not over reaching.
@@ob1brand you nailed it
Amazing stuff. Have to admit I looked up your time last week - couldn't wait to see the result!
Thank you. You know, I don't blame you. I would have done exactly the same haha
I didn't have long to wait 😂 well done !!
And like a flash it was here. Thanks for watching
Fantastic result.
Your video really shows how fast you have to run to get sub 3. You barely broke a sweat. Amazing.
Thank you Mark. That 3 hour barrier is a tough nut to crack. I'm so happy that I managed to prove to myself that last year wasn't a fluke.
Awesome 👏👏👏
Thank you
Dude you were like an assassin, smooth as a cucumber. Pleasure to meet you man.
Thank you Will. I still can't quite believe I executed it the way I did. So good to finally meet you face to face. Hopefully catch you soon
Sub 3 baby!!!!!
Great video Brett, I was there on Sunday, only just found your video now, it's a great record of the event, like that you updated us at every mile, you looked strong all the way through. I think I saw you at Worcester Pitchcroft Parkrun last July, remember you had an OB1 hat or teeshirt, can't remember which. Fantastic result 2:55, you must be so happy. I cycled around the course and was supporting Will, Matt from RunThe Planet and HarryRuns, I did a video of the day.
Thank you Andy. I have done Pitchcroft Parkrun a few times so that probably was me yes. Hope you had fun out there supporting, the atmosphere was great. I shall have to check out your video for sure
@@ob1brand You’re welcome Brett, yes I enjoyed my day, did 38K charging around the course and the weather was perfect although nippy at 9am. I’ve never tackled a marathon, had to cancel Manchester 1/2 last October due to Covid, all my mates were doing it so I was very disappointed but I did go down to support😊
Great time brett
Thank you. Very happy indeed
👍
Thank you
Well done… never done Manchester before, bit of an ugly looking course 😢 superb result though and great content.
Thank you Karl. To be honest you don't really look around at the course and sights much whilst you're running it. The atmosphere of the amazing crowd distracts you. It's a great marathon to do if you ever get the chance.
Lovely video mate. And congrats on the Sub 3. Where did you pick the music from? It sounded very Indian/Asian. I could hear the tabla. Congrats again.
Thank you. Super happy with the result. The music is from the audio library on TH-cam. I picked it ages ago and kept it back as I knew I wanted to use it in my race day video. I just thought it was a great piece of music and love the sound of the instruments, including the tabla in it. It's called Lotus Pond by an artist called Aakash Gandhi
