They made a huge mistake taking away the twin clocks and replacing with the modern Trident clock! Doesn't have that killer retro feel anymore and the paint jobs are a disaster. Not sure what they were thinking but obviously they weren't thinking! The good news is, I will save money buying a left over 2024 in a showroom somewhere and slapping Ohlins on it! Love your channel!

For me it is clear: they want to bring the success of the 400s to the 1200s.
The new Speed Twin is placed as a big Speed 400 and not as the original Speed Twin, which stands for its own.

Totally agree, what a cock-up. The Thruxton was universally acknowledged as peak design of the Bonneville series, and Triumph have really missed the boat on this as a substitute.

Agreed, i have the same with Nitron suspension both ends, Tec bike parts cam, airbox eliminator, decat and adjusted fueling. The extra HP with the RS i wouldn't use as i usually don't have any need to go above 5,500 rpm. I also altered the gearing as the Std gearing was way to low for me.
The cut outs in the tank presumably for a better turning circle aren't to my liking on this RS and the 400 models. What needs to happen for a major upgrade is a serious diet getting the weight closer to the 765RS, yes i understand a different engine. I feel they are trying to somehow replace the Thruxton, that had stopped selling once the Speed Twin came into play. So how is this supposed to generate sales? The single clock would be a deal breaker for me.

The 2019 Speed Twin was the bike that got me onto a motorcycle. To me it is what a bike should be. (I own a Silver Ice 2020, btw.) I am not sure the "MKIII" , either version, would have the same impact. The base seems like a downgrade in many ways and the RS is a Thruxton wanna be. I am disappointed, but it doesn't really matter because I am keeping my 2020 for a long time.

As an older rider, I recall clearly my reaction on the release of the hideous paint schemes of the 1971 oil in frame models. Disastrous decision at the time by the marketing team at Triumph, and we all correctly predicted that sales would nosedive. Seems like we have deja vu all over again (to quote Yogi Berra). Plus, the new “clock” is hideous. Real shame to have squandered what could have been a great opportunity to build on the success of the previous models. Just have to wonder who is in charge of market research at Triumph, and how they could have got it so wrong. I’ll be keeping my 2024 Speed Twin (which I really like) for longer than I had planned.

I've been so close to buying the current MY24 but knew an upgrade was coming so have held off. I'm very grateful Triumph released the information early. Having seen the 25 bike I just could not live with that single dial. It's something you have to look at constantly and knowing how beautiful the old ones were you'd be forever disappointed. So this weekend I've been out and bought a brand new 24 model at a serious deal. There are a few about in the UK. I've now got £4k in change from what I'd have to have spent on the RS to upgrade my suspension and buy some new kit. Very happy.

I fully agree with your assessment. I would add that I dislike the flatter headlight that looks like the XSR900's, and I find appalling that the specs of the basic model are significantly downgraded compared to the MY2024, while it comes with a higher price tag. The specs of the RS are better, but I don't want of a cafe racer bike for my daily commute. Most of all, the Trident's modern clock is a poor replacement compared to the previous dual analogue clocks; and why the offset to the left? No thank you Triumph, I will keep my ST 2023 and will rather put my money on upgraded shocks.

That trident dash looks really crappy even compared to my XSR 700, so putting that on a bike this expensive is completely unacceptable in my book. BMW manages to have all the tech nonsense on their R nineT while still having a good looking analog dash, so Triumph has no excuse!

Not fond of four cylinder engines and it is a bit heavy for city use - so probably not buying my own. All they had to do was release an RS version as follows - ohliins all round, twin tft dash, akropovic twin pipes, quick shifter, more power than the mark 2, and optional clip ons. Leave the mark 2 as it is. Reduce the price a smidge to $20990 AUD and price the RS a good $5k more than the standard. Easy.

I still like the red and black paint scheme on my 2019 Speed Twin ! The paint schemes since 2021 don't really do it for me .
Well your respray looked good from youtube, but that wasn't "official Triumph" !!
The extra rev range before hitting the rev limiter would be nice, and it looks like the suspension has been improved.
The riding position geometry of my Mk1 is okay to me . I'd tried the Thruxtons of 2020 ->21 ish , way too extreme for my mid 50s body !
The Triumph official gumph says the RS has a "more focused riding position". Sounds like I might not like it !
I would like the cruise control and quick shifter. I miss those from the 1050 Speed Triple I had for a couple of years (Mrs Karl-osh wouldn't get on the back of it , so it didn't get ridden much !)
I love the twin clocks on my 2019 speed twin, don't want the clocks off the Trident ! Triumph just need to look at what Kawasaki did with twin clocks and some LCD on the Z900RS. Something like that could work rather than the bargain basement Trident clock.
I really doubt if I'll pay the upgrade cost from my 2019 to get a 2024 variant, and the mono clock is a bit of a deal breaker.
Now if Triumph made a 1050 -> 1200 cc Triple engined retro, that looks like the speed twin, with a 120 degree crank ( and not the T plane one ), then they could have me willing to open my wallet , and let the moths out , and see if there's any cash for the upgrade !

They could have just added the shifter and electronics and called it a day. The single instrument is a turnoff. Higher pegs would cramp my 34" inseam ... Surely, someone could come up with a better solution to incorporate the newly upgraded electronics into an "analogue-style" dash? Even maintaining an analogue needle over a TFT background would help so much with the aesthetics.
Triumph's own recent limited Stealth editions with the fade paintjob looks so much more premium on this supposed premium bike in their range. I knew it! As soon as I saw the new Speed Twin 1200 I knew that the Rocketman would not resist commenting :) I have never truly considered the Speed Twin 1200 because I would never consider buying a new motorcycle without quickshift or cruise control. But Triumph has adressed it for 2025. To be honest I think Triumph nailed it, everything that was needed on the Speed Twin 1200 has been introduced. And the paint scheme of the RS is the best yet on a Speed Twin. For me it has only one gripe, at €18.000 (with the cruise control) is expensive when compared to the cheaper Street triple 765RS or the slighty more expensive, but undoubtedly more premium, Speed Triple 1200RS. But hey, what's the price of the beautiful classic looks? Triumph is on a roll lately. Oh, I had the same tought as you regarding the suede seat, it will probably not last long.

My modification plans include a full suspension swap and a tune which will bring it up to speed with this new one. Not a fan of the indents on the tank either… those always looked like an engineering mistake with a poor solution to me. And the plastic fenders on the base model?? Less riding modes?! A horribly ugly gauge that looks like it came off a Honda Rebel (no offence to Honda at all... I absolutely love their bikes and actually own a Super Cub) and the cherry on top? It’s more expensive!! Definitely a misstep on Triumph’s part imo.

The changes are nice and address the public expecting the Speed twin to be a competitive naked ... loved the colors, as well. It will be fine. Everyone said the same thing about Ducati when they ditched the trellis frame, and yet, Panigale sales have been epic. Harley riders said the same about the Pan America, and that bike likely saved them from bankruptcy. Corvette fans cried over the notion of going mid engine, but the C8 has been smashing track and sales records...
People don't like change, but for every curmudgeon that proclaims they won't buy the new bike because it isn't what they are used to, 2 new people will like it and maybe buy it.
Triumph added an IMU, more ride modes that can be customized, a quickshift with autoblip, and they wanted to offer their bluetooth module to this model so you can get phone pairing, music info and gps navigation on screen... Well, all that stuff requires a new dash, not the 2006 analogue dials...

When I first got my 2020 Street RS, I thought the dash was complete shit. But after a month, I got over it... On the road and track, my eyes need to be scanning out ahead, not looking at the dash.
I feel like Bikers will have a bigger issue with it because they tend to put form over function. Riders on the other hand, might not care for it, but we get past it because the way the bike RIDES is what really matters... Old school dials look nice sitting parked... but it doesn't do anything for my lap times... haha

I get you. I think the problem is that the old Speed Triple had such beautiful clocks; it would have been preferable (but costly) for Triumph to design a completely new 'retro digital' dash. After all, they have many modern classics they could have used it on.

Too early to form a conclusion and test rides can change your mind, but the base model looks to be a fail in the UK market. Being asked to pay £500 more and getting on balance significantly less objectively (the lack of Brembos, plastic mudguards, one fewer mode) and subjectively (lack of retro twin clocks) makes no sense.
The RS could do well, subject to the riding position but it looks like it will be a very low mileage Sunday bike which is I think a shame. The continuing lack of and inability to retro fit a centre stand does tell you that this is rather a vanity machine. Let’s wait and see but I would be pessimistic from a sales perspective.
