Gorgeous looks, and some amazing lyrics. While I may have been slightly dismayed by the DD separation at the time, I am delighted whenever I listen to it.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way! Whenever Duran Duran (or Arcadia, or Power Station) had a new album come out, my dad always bought it for me, as soon as it came out! I remember he bought me "So Red the Rose," when it came out in 1985, when I was in 7th grade. I wore out that cassette!
It was a short album but not one bad song off it. Rose Arcana might of been the weakest of them although it being an instrumental, Nick Rhodes painted that entire track and the rest of the album with pure bliss.
I really can't believe how this MASTERPIECE album reached only at number 30 at UK charts!!! The whole project from songs, videos, album cover, art and design, posters, EVERYTHING, were perfect. A Real Diamond!!!

But the album still went platinum. The real reason it wasn't charted as high is because Duran Duran marketed the album silently. They wanted to make it "underground," not commercialized to reflect the occultic symbolism of the album. They were going for a goth mystery feel by going underground somewhat. Its the best produced album in modern history
Genuinely put this album up alongside some of the best of Duran Durans back catalogue. Shame it was a side project in some respects, deserves more credit today as a great 80s album. The production is flawless.
I’m so fortunate to have been born in a time that allowed Arcadia and Duran Duran to have touched and influence my soul. Their music is a soundscape that tells a story and makes your insides move. Nicks genius keyboard creations and Simons range of his falsetto were meant to be. Johns base plucking, Rodgers movements and Andy’s perfect amount of rhythm that brought their musical talents out of each other just makes it so perfect. Love both Bands of music. In my mind none of their music was underrated. Thank you all!

It still remains my second favorite Duran album of all time! The creative juices were flowing; the collaborations and taking risks at a time when they were young and on top of the world. Keep Me in the Dark, Missing, Lady Ice, The Promise are all faves of mine but I love every track. I remember recording this video when it debuted on MTV. The video for the Flame was Hitchcock hilarious.
Unique album which became a great hit in Canada, with many of my relatives seeing the released videos on Canadian video channels, repeatedly, we will never see talent the same again or an album in the same vain...😮

This song is surreal and mystical. The harmonics are sublime and sensual. I do see Simon likes being strapped to things and be turned up side down. Wild Boys video too.
At least there was no water involved in this one. I remember seeing a Making Of for the Wild Boys video and they said that the windmill that Simon was strapped on malfunctioned and stopped with Simon's head underwater. It took them several moments to realize that Simon couldn't lift his head out of the water and someone jumped in and got him off the rig. He came very close to drowning.

So Red the Rose is still a favorite album of mine. I remember when I was young I kept hoping there would be another Arcadia album. There was something so special about the Arcadia branch of Duran Duran.
wow, i m really getting back to my duran duran passion like when i was a young boy....but this time i can recognize all the beautiful details in them...their great taste in music, the melodies, Nick rhodes undisputed genius, Simon incredible range and ability of passionate vocal melodies like this one...all the arrangements and the visuals as well are awesome.....and the fact that Simon looks like the male one,while Nick has always this androgynous charachter (beautiful always) makes the two incredibly appealing as Arcadia, in Duran Duran and as the great Artists that they are.......for those who always compared them to Spandau Ballet, just look at their carreer....Spandau went from the new wave beginning to a commercial pop in the end and disbanned.........when DD splitted Power Station and Arcadia were born, one muscle power Rock n Soul,the other enchanting dark pop..and all this for them to evolve into the Duran,that later on released mature records like Notorious, Big thing ,Liberty.....and to this day they are Legends still releasing records and touring the world.... and getting old fans like me back hahahahah

@@fawlteemontee it is....DD was my first ever musical Crush but, at the time, i just heard the songs ,not realizing,what exactly all the instruments were doing (something that was usual during the 80s,with a very sofisticated and well produced music ) and it took me decades of singing, playing in bands and by myself and ,finally ,getting that melancholic moment of 80s Nostalgia...to grab back some of their records and being now able to say "wow, these guys knew how to write,play and arrange songs".....if you distance yourself from the songs and just pay attention to Nick Rhodes....there was NO other like him during the 80s or after...he was not the usual Keyboard player..he was more like a Genius of sounds,effects, surrounding their songs with tricks and stuff,that made the songs unique.....and that is just regarding him....if you go and check the other musicians...then you realize,why DD were the most famous band of the 80s....

I first found Duran Duran in 1981. Bought their debut and have bought everything since. In my top 5 favourite bands. I know they’re much derided and sniggered at but they are a great band. They’ve had their awful moments but who hasn’t. LIBERTY being one. They’re not doing awful 80s tours and still making music. I will love them til I drop. Medazzaland ( spelling? ) is the album I play the most. Underrated and forgotten.

The orchestration is just PERFECT and the chord progressions are MASTERFUL. The music gods truly smiled on these guys.
