Listening to this is so cool as it reminds me of hearing new Rush music for the first time. Love the final version of the song, but this is great too, totally different solo, slightly different arrangement, and ending. Nice. Was so spoiled for 40 years getting new Rush every couple of years. I miss it.
Oh man I was looking for this, think I actually prefer Alex's solo on this version, the bass and drums come through more which builds up for the melodic peak which is simply fucking majestic.
I was hoping for Losing It on this current tour since they have a string section, one of them could rip out the violin solo for it... maybe when they come back thru after europe maybe they will add some new songs and drop some others...
True. Neither has Losing It. Too bad we'll never hear it! I am partial to Middletown Dreams, which they have performed in recent years, luckily for us!
The tape quality pretty much made these demos sound really cool! This version pretty much hasn't changed except for some tweaks in the final version. How did you acquire these gems anyway?
Seconded. Where are all the other albums!? I like this and especially Manhattan Project because it's nearly the same nice composition as on the album, but more raw and unpolished. This demo tape would be a goldmine of vaporwave samples, if you're into that kind of thing.
'Tears with CASE can be done and Alex wants to do 'The Twilight Zone" and that leaves Alex's Lessons and bringing back 'Bangkok (Nah, they never play Bangkok!), and Something For 0. Include Discovery and Oracle: The Dream and RUSH can give us 2112 in 2013/2014R40?
That’s true. It should perhaps be called a rough cut or early version. I’ve heard them remark that they recorded everything; especially improvisation by Alex because he could never remember genius parts he made up on the fly.
amazing we can hear rush as a producer would for the first time!
I'm obsessed with this version of Emotion Detector, I keep coming back to it.
I like how you can hear the guitar part a lot better
It’s so health for newer songwriters to hear early versions of songs to see how they get refined. Best writing is rewriting!
This is really cool to hear. Rush works on the demos like its the album. Their demos are better than most peoples albums are actually!
love the different keyboard sound at the intro. nicely different from the original. BEST SONG ON POWER WINDOWS!!! Long live Rush
I love 80s Rush!!! Call me crazy, call me kinky but I'll take Grace Under Pressure or Power Windows over Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres any day!
Fantastic albums
That would be a hard trade. All of them are masterpieces, even Caress of Steel.
Based. Mid 80s Rush is objectively better
I TOTALLY AGREE
@@greatcoldemptiness Co-signed. Power Windows is Rush's best overall album, and I am here for the Internet finally realizing it.

Amen
I agree they took a great song and made it even greater
nice upload, right to the heart of the matter.
Neil delivers a brilliant fill in there about mid way through. Flawless and smooth and trademark Peart!
This shows that they were always a jam band. All of their polish was just a product of hard work.
Alex's solos are always so perfectly loose!!!
Love this song, probably the best on Power Windows
THE song that solves all riddles.
Emotion Detector is a raging song with a slap-happy Peartian undercurrent and hearing this version makes me think they can drop the Bravado!
Wow and flutter says hello
The demo is amazing. Solo is incredible! RIP Neal 😢
This is my favorite Rush song, favorite album(power windows)... i am so blown away by this version!
Rush says they have no unreleased stuff or b-sides - but there is probably a huge trove of these demo releases that fans would love.
Very interesting, I like the solo he ended up with - it's one of my favorites - but you can hear the beginnings of it here.
Tery Steelman yep

Little bit different version than i have heard before. I have always really liked this song. So great .
Love the ending
Lifeson is soooooo good.
Mark Bird epic solo
Awesome pre work recordings so cool to hear where the song came from
Amazing. And absolutely lovely solo and outro.
Amazing demo ❤️
Rush - Still Rock !
The video sound is pretty good, beyond my imagination
Wow-just wow!!

Eight years later I have some good news for you. Unfortunately, some truly awful news to go with it.😞
Good News First?

barkeep2009 these are bogus. Ain't no demo.
They’re authentic tapes. Apparently it was first given to Alex Lifeson’s son and they were posted onto the internet from there.
Not as good as the final but still excellent, I wish the audio quality was better though.
thank you for being
how the heck did anyone ever get their hands on these demo tapes? anyone know the story behind that?
Seconded. Where are all the other albums!? I like this and especially Manhattan Project because it's nearly the same nice composition as on the album, but more raw and unpolished. This demo tape would be a goldmine of vaporwave samples, if you're into that kind of thing.
@@Xzonza1 Yah, I really like the raw version. The keyboards and guitars sound really good. Rush were such perfectionist.
Story was they were leaked after Alex’s son got a hold of the tape gave a copy to a friend.
From the river of gold...
this sounds waaaaaaaaaay better than the actuall one
Lol no way
Agree!!
Raw
Nasty
A little imperfect

Keyboard sounds like Dragon ball Z music
Why did rush need to do a demo at this stage in their career??? They were already well established!
That’s true. It should perhaps be called a rough cut or early version. I’ve heard them remark that they recorded everything; especially improvisation by Alex because he could never remember genius parts he made up on the fly.
unfortunatly its been a long time they dont make good music as This era anymore... but they really did too much!
Too bad they handed those demos over to Peter Collins instead of Terry brown.
The video sound is pretty good, beyond my imagination
