    Thanks for sharing your review. I like how you reviewed the lighting, most other reviews focus on how "cool" it looks on their cars, but you focus on the driving experience, how the view got changed, and how it affects other drivers on the road.

      Thank you, Automotive lighting has always been in my interest as well as road safety for other drives. There is no reason to be selfish and modify your vehicle when it could pose as a hazard to other drivers.

      +Steven B2 Yes, good point. Could be some people don't realize what they are doing? I am seeing more and more of this. The worst, of course, are the big Pickup trucks with 4 lights. I am wondering if the brightest lights will remain legal....The first time I saw one of them coming at me I thought Ray Charles was driving......

      Steven B2 it's because idiots put hids and leds in halogen light refracting housings. They're too cheap to buy projector housing and take the time to aim them properly

    That Morimoto 7" Sealed Beam Led is quite impressive. I put the JW Speaker 8700 Evo 2 7" Sealed Beam Led in my Harley and I thought it was great. That Morimoto has a much wider hotspot which is excellent for a one-headlight application such as a bike.

    This is one thing I noticed, I've been using an LED kit in halogen projectors, and while the cutoff is ok, there is not hotspot, there is also hardly any "projection of light" down the road, it looks bright just in front of the car and the colour gives the illusion of brighter bulb with more light, but in reality I could see more with a cheap £1.49 halogen bulb.
    I would of been happy if it was equal output with just a whiter color and was hoping for a longer lifetime on the bulb as I do a lot of night driving for work, however this is not the case as no matter how much promise the bulb life has on the packaging LED kits will never reach the quoted hours.
    I will be going back to Osram Nightbreakers (I think you call them Sylvania's over in the states)

    Just wondering. What if the cut off gate was cut a little more? So that the low beam could get brighter hotspot. We may lose the hi beam a little since we might have to point down the projector a little too. I think this could work with dual projector headlight on one housing. We could have good hotspot low beam + hi beam. And hi beam from another projector. Or maybe add another laser hi beam in between.

    I had an 07 Acura TL with un modified OEM bi-xenon headlights, they were the worst headlights I've ever had. The distance of the headlights was poor on both high beam and low beam. I also had people constantly thinking my high beams were on when they weren't which tells me the cutoff was bad. As for your review I found the Morimoto projector lenses with the LED's to look way better than any of the Acura projectors.

    • @TheHeadlightGuy

      Wow thats a rare statement the only thing i could imagine is that there was damage done to the reflector bowl hindering light output.

    I have a question if one can help me. I have a Kia Forte/Cerato 2015 with a projector as the low beam but it came factory with halogens. I noticed right away that the cut off isn’t completely straight. It is horizontal from the left side and it slopes 45 degrees as it goes to the right. I wanted HIDs so bad to match the led drls. So i recently installed them but now the sloping cutoff is even more visible. Whoever is on the front right of the car is completely blinded by that stupid cutoff. Is there a way to fix it so that it looks like 8:10?
    Some info: the hid bulbs didn’t plug right in, i had to buy an adaptor as most h7 bulb in cars. Also the electrode ( i think its called) is creating a shadowing in the roads in each beam creating two lines of shadows infront of the car which i think can be fixed by buying morimoto’s h7B bulbs which are the only ones in the market that have flipped electrodes. (pls let me know if there are other brands).

  • @Lifted0311

    I can confirm most of this as fact. I had an hid in a reflector when I bought my truck and it was doodoo. then I put a very very high quality led in a reflector housing. despite the bulb quality the light dispersion was terrible. did a hid retrofit with morimoto 7 bi xenon and it's a whole new world

    thanks for making this. I'm having trouble figuring out if LED bulbs are actually legit when installed in stock reflectors, as some people say they're designed for them, and some say they cause glare and are not good yet.

      I think HIDs are better, and with a 2014 impreza 2.0, the stock halogen reflectors are used for the limited trim HID lights, so no change is necessary except for the new ballast and bulbs.

    I’m curious, I have a 2017 Honda Accord sedan, h11 halogen projector. Stock bulbs I get a cut off line, With a set of 35w hids, 6k, still have the cut off line.
    But my question is, if I wanted do I just do a hid lens swap? *H11 low beam * Since my stock projector lens isn’t an HID lens...? I was thinking the 4g TL.
    What was the two different TL lens you were talking bout? One was clear, what was the other?
    Can you run the fx-r lens and get a wider/even/dense beam pattern adjusting the shield?
    I want something that will give me a wide and even but dense lighting and angle. Also What should I look for when inspecting the shield?
    Thanks in advance keep up the good work

      That looks like a 6500k bulb. The best bulb to put in projectors is a CBI. Best performance. Dont just get bulbs for color. As for the cutoff blue line, you have to space and play with the shield. But you need to retrofit your headlights first.

    Damn it... There is too many options and it's overwhelming trying to find the right set up. This video is definitely helpful and informative but I'm still lost on my options lol. The thing is, I'm trying to replace the 7x6 sealed beam headlights on my old Jeep XJ. The Jeep isn't worth much so I'm not trying to spend a ton of money on headlights. Maybe $50 to $60 max. Every time I think I decide on something, I see another video that changes my mind and I'm back at square one. I was going to do classic cut H4 housings with LED bulbs but that looked like ass on the video so not doing that. I would love some projectors but not the ebay ones lol. I know the multi LED bulbs has a horrible/no cut off and blinds people so not doing that either. Currently I can only see about 20 feet ahead of myself with my headlights, any suggestions?

    nice to see the video maker still answering questions. The Headlight Guy, i have a problem with my lights always feels way to dim so bad sometimes i am not sure if my headlights are even on. What would you recommend for a longer range wide spread light that is white and will be legal to the federal laws? I been doing research but i don't want to over pay for something that cops will ticket me for and have to take out.

    • @TheHeadlightGuy
      @TheHeadlightGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First what kind of vehicle are you having the problem with the light output on? That will give me a starting point on what the problem could be. 99.99% of the time properly retrofitted headlights will not flag unwanted attention from the cops. The biggest factor of the headlights getting the police's attention is improper aiming where it could blind other drivers.

      yea the camry is a very common retrofitted car, when it comes to the more economy driven cars with less options they tend to have sub par performance with factory lighting. I do not believe HID headlights was a available option for the camry of that year.

      Not a problem, beware of aftermarket housings claiming to be HID. Commonly found on ebay, they come equipped with cheap led DRL strips or Halo rings. Some go by the name of Spyder, Spec-D, TYC all have poor quality projectors they use in all of there headlights that may be worse than your oem headlights.

    I have been having problems with my ebay projection HID single beam with not being bright enough, i have upgraded from the HID stock bulbs that came with the aftermarket set from ebay to a new set of HIDs from autozone, when i turn on the high beams they seem to be the right brightness for driving i had thought about buying the LEDs...i did buy some LED fogs lamps to help out with the light brightness but it's no enough...other cars on the road next to me their driving lights are brighter then mine....i drive a 97 ford Mustang and have been dealing with this problem now for about five yesrs now...should i just buy new lights and start over? The last light has the high beam hot spot way too low. For best vision the hot spot should be higher to get further away and the low beams should be turned off when the high beams goes on. This due to how your eyes works.

    • @TheHeadlightGuy
      @TheHeadlightGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      As i stated in the video i was only 35 feet from the wall and did not give the high beams the needed space to work properly. On LED setups on all oem cars the lows beams do stay on while the high beams are activated due to the limitations of the LEDs ability to produce alot of light by its self. I fully support having proper foreground lighting while using high beams.

    if you have a reflector housing eith a cut off shield and a bulb such as hb4 it cuts off the loght i have used halogen hid and led in them and they all have a really sharp cutoff, led throws a nicer clean white light than hid but they are both just as bright both 55 watt, halogen have a very bad light output my foglights are brighter when using a 15 watt led than using 55 watt halogen lowbeam, halogen suck unless you have a projector meant for halogen, but led is the way to go just make sure you aren't blinding anyone, led will last longer and throw out almost no heat, all the heat stayw on the heatsink which doesn't get hot which will make your lens stay clear

    I want to replace the bulbs with a LED

    Should I go with a white led
    Does the pattern of light change ?
    Best brand / code and part number do you recommend
    Or
    2017 Forester XT question
    Halogen Fog Light Bulb Replacement
    How do U feel about not going with a LED for replacement bulb as I understand it actually cuts down on visibility and going with a PIAA Plasma Yellow Ion replacement bulb

    • @TheHeadlightGuy
      @TheHeadlightGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not seen too many LED's that offer a yellow color for foglight bulbs. If you wished to get that you can always do a LED bulb and do a LaminX Yellow protection film.
      As far as LED bulbs go i would say the Morimoto 2Stroke LED bulbs are by far the best performers on the market.
      Replacing a Halogen bulb with a different kind of bulbs is always a gamble in foglights. sometimes they may not cause glare sometimes they may cause glare. I would search around on the forums and see if anyone else has good output shots next to a wall to see if there is glare or improved performance.
      The other upside of going to LED Vs a higher wattage halogen is that you minimize the risk of damaging the housing with excessive heat from the halogen bulb.

      I am currently building a set of custom IS lights for a customer. the OEM IS headlights are not very good performers. It is using a D4S system which is not the greatest. The bulb is side mounted instead being mounted from behind like traditional projectors. I have done a clear lens upgrade and converted it to a D2S bulb and ballast it seemed to help a little bit on the output but adding the second pair of projectors will really help my customer see at night.

    Hey great vid man. Now I know not to put led or hids in my halogen projects. I hate when cars behind me are pissing light all over the place, I don't want to be one of those dickheads!

    Led and hid are for projectors only. Anything different is weaker performance and severely blinding for everyone else. Do an hid projector retrofit if you actually want performance instead of trying to look "cool".

    Can't tell anything unless you use the same aperature and same shutter speed on your camera, for every sample.

    The led your using here don't fit well in the projectors. Thats why the beam is not ok.

    Dude, it's pronounced "fernel" even though it's spelled Fresnel. I know cause I took a lighting tech class in college professor did nothing but lighting for years in theater. You seem to know alot though give u that.
