- Castle 8x22 Ending / End Scene “Crossfire” - Castle and Beckett with Kids - The Caskett Happy Ending from the Series Finale. Also they are shot by Caleb in the loft and lay in the floor bleeding and dying (must be the planned cliffhanger for season 8). Then time jump to series ending 7 years later into future or flash forward showing Kate and Richard with their three children (a girl named and twin boys ) playing and happily eating breakfast together in the loft . This is a glimpse of the Caskett happily ever after.

I rewatched the series and I realized that they had 3 kids. Exactly like what the episode of the time traveling said they would. That's brilliant.

What was also funny about that was that having 3 kids thing and married in the time traveler episode was a foreshadowing put in by Andrew Marlowe to how he wanted to end the show.

The first time I watched the episode , I didn't see the "seven years later" . So I thought they were both dreaming about the future they could've had while dying

Me (No, not Ashildr, I had the name before Doctor Who, and I'm not changing it!) I think it's supposed to be that way. And the viewer can make what they want out of it. I've always been a longtime, loyal Bones fan, so Castle didn't ever spark, or catch for me, but I did watch it all. And often times I was left disappointed.
stand confirmed a few days ago that it was meant as their dream while dying, but that the fans should have their own interpretation
what if the last part with caskett and their kids was actually their "real life" and, this whole time, seasons 1-8 was a story/novel that castle had been writing? so then, castle and beckett actually died in the story, but in real life they live happily ever after with their children? as the story ends, the series ends. if this is the case, the ending was brilliant, not just good, but brilliant.

well stana wasn’t coming back because her and nathan didn’t get along which is why the ending was rushed.

This was rushed ending is because the new showrunners and writers in season 8 were so confident they would get season 8 that they planned primarily for that and not the show ending. So when they made that extra scene to end the show that showed they survived, it was rushed due to them thinking it would never see the light of day.

But really this ending was everything Castle. Unbearable drama where their lives are in danger but they're in it together. Followed by incredible Caskett feels. Thank you Castle for 8 years of heart attacks and gooey feels. And for Caskett's extraordinary love story!

I wrote another ending in my brain immediately after the show concluded...here it is....Fade to black, (no time lapse text on bottom of screen) into a dark corridor where Ryan and Esposito are standing against the wall facing each other, they begin walking down the hallway to an unknown destination. They begin to banter with Ryan saying, "I cant believe they're gone...how it ended that way...", Esposito interrupting, "They died together, I always thought it would end that way..", as both of them pass through a double door into a brightly lit, vibrant Barnes and Noble, massive line of people as they walk along side of the queue line, bantering in a more lighthearted way, whimsical music hits....and they reach their destination...Castle is seated, ready to sign autographs for his last, final novel, with his too good to be true ending inspired by the shooting in the apartment....Beckett is there with the children, Martha is there, Alexis is there and Ryan and Esposito take their positions as security detail for the event, cut to Castle who turns back, smiles at Beckett as the 1st fan begins to approach. Few, if any words are spoken, cut to the outro with the writers pen and Castle logo....and its done. All is well, everyone lives, everyone is there...thats how it ends in my opinion.

I love this, but I feel like the last spoken line should be from the first fan in line to get a signed book saying something to the effect of, "I love your books, but seriously, who kills off the maim characters?" And then Kate smirks, Javier and Ryan nod at each other in agreement, and Castle just smiles. Throw back to the first season when everyone gives him hell about the catalyst to the series when he killed off Derek Storm.

+JordynMackenzie I know, Bones has only 17 total episodes left, they're doing a final 12 episode season next year. And you're right, people do have different opinions, but the truth is, Castle is now nothing more than just one other show that came and went in Bones' glory run.

I'm glad Rick and Kate made it and got their happy ending. I remember that epic last scene from E01 like it was yesterday and when I first saw it I immediately knew that I am watching something special. And during the years I got debriefed and became one of Rick's and Kate's conquests. I'll miss this show like crazy ... And thank you becklebee for the uploads over these past couple of years.
Looking back on it, you gotta respect them having to pivot so hard after being suddenly canceled and not leaving fans on a cliffhanger.
No matter what Castle writers and ABC have put it's fans and cast through, I have to say the season finale in my opinion was very comforting and beautiful. I wish the last few scenes with the caskett kids weren't as short as they were but other than that, it was a great ending. Even with the shooting of both Castle and Beckett (still can't stop crying over that scene) the fact that they crawled to each other and held one another really displays their love. I couldn't have thought of a better way to show the strength of their relationship (but Thank God that they didn't die). But thus all good things must come to an end. Thank you for 8 amazing years of Castle ❤ and thank you for creating this channel. I will continously revisit to relive the Caskett memories.
After a rewatch 4 years later, I defo don't agree with my younger self about the ending being good enough. I stand by it being comforting tho and I appreciate how it made my younger self feel. Looks like I kept my promise about revisiting your channel ❤️

Also, by the time the cast and crew found out ABC cancelled the show, it was too late, shooting has already wrapped up by then, so the only thing the show did at last minute was the 7 years later for us, fans. Otherwise, if they knew in advance that the show will be cancelled, I am sure it would have been a 2 hour finale.
+mumihp From what I read from the show runners, this was the alternative ending that was filmed at the same time as the other ending, if there was a renewal. So that why this ending surprised me

This ending I could live with. I just wish it was a two hour series finale instead of the 42mins. I know that the ending was where they were holding hands fade to black. But in order for that to happen something had to be deleted, I want to know what scene was that.

The way I heard it, it was supposed to be a cliffhanger for next season, but there was also talk of the show ending, so they filmed the "seven years later" bit in the event that they did cancel the show, and, well, the rest is obvious.
Omg this was such a weird ending. After 8 seasons, they get cancelled, alright i get that, but jesus, people have been watching this series for like forever and they don't want to spend money on a nice long finale? They should have made it 2 hours, show how they survived, what happened to the precinct, Ryan, Javier, Castle's mom and daughter, but instead they show them getting shot and in 1 hot minute they show their life after it. 1 MINUTE, seriously writers, you couldn't take like 20 minutes of time to show what happened? Damn, this is the reason why i hate tv series, I get só invested in something and i just need a good satisfactory ending, now I will spend weeks thinking about this shitty finale. Thanks -.-

Jose Alvarez It was supposed to go on without Stana, but ABC decided last minute to not order a next season, because of the ratings already dropping last season and they were afraid it would drop even more without Stana (the fans also reacted furious at Stana leaving, so i guess that had an impact as well on ABC)

This show's ending it too short but seeing them with their kids seven years later makes me so happy! Castle will always be one of my favorites.
Just finished the series from start to finish, and it was one of the best modern series out there. The partnership of Castle and Beckett was the show. It would have not been what it was without them, and thankfully it did not continue as it planned to without Beckett. I do have to say that the LokStat/Greatest Detective Agency was a good twist, along with the lawyer working for Mason Wood. However, I can definitely see where the show drifted from the early years. The original plot of Castle writing his “Nikki Heat” novels and teaming up with Beckett was the show. Slowly but surely the relationship between the two was brilliantly written and formed a deep bond between the two. I would say the best of “Castle” was seasons 3-6, especially the chemistry between the players. Ryan and Esposito were a great buddy-cop duo and Captain Gates was fantastic (and one could even say underutilized). I thought that the medical examiners of the show fit in well, and the Castle family - especially Martha helped make the series what it was. Unfortunately in season 8 I feel the original spark the series had disappeared in the midst of the Bracken/Beckett/Wood storyline. It wasn’t poor by any means comparing it to television series nowadays, but the levity and “Hart to Hart”/“Murder She Wrote” style of the show was not there anymore. With Beckett becoming Captain, I felt it was too unrealistic given how young she was, but I give it the leeway that the series was never made to be completely accurate. Out of all the things “Castle” was at its best when the writers began feeding the audience “will they - won’t they” and hit it out of the park when Castle and Beckett came together. I will miss this cute little gem of a show, but am content that it gave Castle and Beckett a happy ending, one they most certainly deserved - “always” ❤️✍🏻
If the last two seasons had been as good as this episode there would be s9+. Thank you Castle for being a wonderful show with fantastic cast and crew. If Nathan and Stana ever get the chance to work together in the future I hope they do because whatever their differences they have with each other the chemistry they have on screen is amazing and totally believable

I loved the last scene (no the last with the kids, the last with Caleb). I loved how they, just squeeze their hands. Thyer don't fear dead. And then, the "You have no idea" was great, and of course the two ALWAYS and Castle's mink speech. Finally, Simon Doyle was ok!!!

When Castle got shot I literally screamed and then when she got shot I was like "WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They can't die!!" and then there it was the seven years later and the kids running around and I was like "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This can't be happening I am so happy I could literally die right now and I wouldn't care."
I was thinking the same thing. When they were lying on the ground, I was like "That's what you call a happy ending? ". but then the Caskett kids came out and all was right in the world.

Castle might be one of the best shows, maybe. And if the actors didn't like each other enough to make their characters work, Caskett might have been a good couple. But only after the true best, which of course is Bones, and the iconic Brennan and Booth.

I loved this show and felt like family to the cast just by watching every monday night. Castle will be much loved and remembered forever...
They had us on edge throughout the entire episode but in the end we got what we wanted and what Caskett deserved....A Happy Ending!

I thought it they show was gonna end at them getting shot but at least they showed they were all fine and made it alive ...made sense since becket was shot on stomach and castle on left chest they could have survived few till the ambulance reached they crawled to each other making sure both were ok and now safe that was cute Becket got shot bad back in s3 finale by a sniper and that was really gruesome she almost immediately lost consciousness back then

I will 100% take this ending with no regrets. I don't feel like I was cheated of anything. Although I hated S8 very much, we got the happy ending we deserve for ourselves as fans, and for Kate and Rick. The right decision was made by ABC to cancel it. There was no chance that a S9 could go on without Kate. Now everything is preserved, the characters, the re-runs, the DVD's and the shows legacy. I'm proud to have been a part of this amazing fandom. #CaskettAlways ❤️

I remember when I first watched this and they showed the empty apartment and did a voiceover of their goodbye from the first episode, I was convinced they were about to say the entire show had been a fantasy of what could have been. When the seven years later came on the screen, I let out such a big breath. I do think something they could have done to have it make more sense that they lived would have been to just have a brief shot of like Alexis or Martha standing there while EMTs are working on them. It would have taken maybe 2 seconds longer and would have helped the whole thing make just a bit more sense.
I’ve definitely had this head cannon where this is the second to last episode and Javi or Ryan hear call over the radio for a possible shooting, and they speed over to the loft to help. The last ep is about their survival and eventual flash forward. They could show where everyone was seven years later.
They were supposes to do a season 9. I think the last bit was added last second to wrap it up knowing they werent getting a season 9 and not wanting to end it with them both dying.

I cried so hard when they got shot and then the dialogs from the first episode and then the kids. I needed to watch this twice to understand it. But It was a great series final. This ending was such a copout. Obviously they tacked it on at the last second when they cancelled. It wouldn't have taken that much more to make it a decent end--all they needed was to cut out that last bit with Caleb. But that fake out gave me such a heart attack that I couldn't even enjoy the happy ending reveal--which lasted all of 23 seconds.

I just finished rewatching the show. I noticed that since it finished in 2016 and the ending flashes forward 7 years, that would mean we were seeing Caskett and their kids in 2022

The worst ending ever!! They didn't have his daughter there, no Kevin, Javier, Lanie, or his Mom. They should've had-
Castle/Beckett's kids, Alexis (in police uniform) taking over for Beckett, his Mom there somehow Kevin/Jenny & kids, Javier/Lanie (pregnant) Along with scene highlights honoring the other members of the cast.
This was THEIR love story. No need for others to interfere in that sad/happy ending IMO ...

It was a great combination of romance, drama, and comedy all put together in one awesome show. honestly I've never got attached to a show the way I did with this show. And I have watched a lot of good show. The ending was wonderful. Although I wished it would have gotten a season 9 with all the actors in it, but I am happy with this ending also instead of a season 9 without all the actors together. Well, thanks to all the actors for entertaining us for 8 wonderful seasons. And good luck to them on their next adventures. And I will definitely watch whatever show, SK will be on next.

As a caskett fan from way back, I’m glad that it ended happily. But yeah it was rushed, but I’d say it’s better seeing them alive and happy than disappointed and sad. So yeah I’m glad they lived and had kids.
You know, thinking a bout it more, I am a bit disappointing in the ending. They made this ending a while back as they did not know if they would be renewed or not. So, as the ending for a series, is was disappointing. It felt they took the cliffhanger, add a 45 sec 'in 7 years down the road' and went tadda! I wish they wrote this ending better; yes we got the HEA but everyone on the FB feels so confused too
I thought when Beckett went into the room she was setup to die in that room. I don't know I feel about the ending, but I know it was rushed. There's no explanation to Brown or the 7yr jump. No farewells to supporting characters or their developments. It's like after they got shot it was either a dream or that it was actually an alternate timeline where they didn't get involved with loksat or whatever. I'm sad the series had to end like with any other series, but it is what is and I just wished it had a better ending. Great series tho imo

I absolutely love this show so much, it had everything and it was just incredible and comforting and defiantly my favourite shows ever and although I love the ending, it was just so overwhelming and rushed, I still kinda feel heavy about it and I still remember what an emotional rollercoaster it was😭

another job, ect. Since the show found out it was cancelled, the 7 years
later was for us fans, to show they both survived and had a family, a
girl and twins so while it wasn't great, I appreciate the ending they
did for us because otherwise the cliff hanger would have been
horriable.
True, fans all expected happy ending instead of another season without kate..
tbh if we didn't know that SK would not be in a potential season 9, I would've thought NF would be the one dead. Castle's shot seemed more severe.

But Stana Katic was fired before the show was announced to be cancelled. If there had been a season 9, she would not have been coming back for it.

The end of season 7 is the ACTUAL end of the show. The eighth season was a bonus. Just be glad they didn't leave them dying on the floor like Glades did with Jim on his wedding day.

This Episode was Outstanding, it was a Roller-coaster of an Episode From the 1st Minute all the way to the End, the reveal of Loksat was a complete Surprise, did not see that coming, The End was a slight twist, but I was happy to see what would happen to Castle and Beckett after the encounter with Caleb in the Loft, Their Kids are Adorable, and it was Awesome that they called back to the scene from the end of Flowers For Your Grave with Voice-over. Overall while Season 8 was not what I had hoped for when the season started, I would say this season was a 7.25/10, Favorite Episodes are:
Cool Boys (Episode 6)
The Last Seduction (Episode 7)
Mr. & Mrs. Castle (Episode 8)
Dead Red (Episode 11)
The Blame Game (Episode 12)
Fedelis Ad Mortem (Episode 15)
Crossfire (Episode 22)
While I am sad to see the series come to an End, 8 seasons is not a bad run under any circumstance and the cast and crew should be proud, Best of Luck to everyone in their respective futures and I look forward to getting Season 8 when it comes out on Home Video in the Fall.

The first wouldve had Beckett dying, this worked out better.
Yeah, they would've ended S08 with a cliffhanger if they would've made 9th season, but since they didn't they just added a minute of a rushed ending on top of the "real" ending.
Yeah, that's BS. They should've just cut the shooting out. Now the fans are confused if they are just dreaming of a happy ending or if it actually did happen...

The girl's name is Lily. People say the boys' names are Reece and Jake but I didn't find it for sure. We do know the girl's name, tho

I just hate to see Castle end. Especially like this!!!! After all the drama, I'm really gonna miss that show. Man I was a asked case during most of the episode even after it was over. I would've enjoyed this finale so much more if I hadn't heard about the conflicts behind the scene between Fillion and Katic before it aired. It trashed my illusion of how magical & wonderful the series was. ABC should've paid Katic the same salary as Fillion, after all they were both series producers in the later years of the series.
Still, 'Castle' was a great fun series...still one of my favorites of all time.

Well I think we saw what the cliffhanger scene was going to be. Probably would have just ended with Caskett on the floor shot which would lead into season 9. The question is am I (we) okay with this ending for the finale?
Yes and no is my answer. I'm glad they got the happy ending, but I feel short changed as well. I wanted to see them with the kids more. I want to see the those seven years. I want to see Caskett adjust from the life they had to the life we saw at the end. I wanted to see how kick ass detective/captain Beckett transitioned from that to kick ass Mom. I want to see their reaction to the first pregnancy and then the reaction of when they found out they were having twin boys. I want to know their kids' names.
Too bad we wasted so much time early on in the series with the "will they won't they" when it was obvious that they were from the beginning. Too bad the head writers this year wasted so much time on Loksat and the separation. Just too bad. But I will love this show Always.
I really wish they didn't waste so much time on the separation and loksat bcuz this ending scene here would have made a great season 10 or 11 and the first pregnancy thing would have been good in season 9 but sense there was some budget problems they had to choose kill Beckett and have a season 9 or have happy ending to castle and cancel the show off. And I guess they choose the 2nd chose and went on with that bcuz we kept saying #NoBeckettNoCastle so either way the show was going to end one way or another
+stonecoldku I think you took the words out of my mouth. Like you, I hoped they ( ABC) relaised what a bad mistake they made, got TJ and SK for a S9 ( like 13 episodes or so) and played out this future of them starting a family.. But alas.. I rather them end like this, then try a S9 without SK etc.

its bittersweet. obviously rushed but could you imagine? an entire season could've been dedicated to their relationship if Beckett did get pregnant. we even could've had the weird melodrama of alexis having a brother or sister when shes already like 23.
If we could have a slow version of the 7 years it would be like the cherry in top of the sundae :)
My Version. After the shooting Castle is typing “THE END” in close up. You see castle and Kate kissing with three kids running around.
I cried when I realised this is the end. I am also gratefull for 8 wonderfull years to follow this two. I will love Castle...always.
Perfect ending
It took me a week before I could watch this episode. I didn't want Kate's and Castle's story to end. I did not want Castle to end. I cried, as well. Seeing Kate as a mom was so touching though we got hints of this in two episodes. I would have liked to have seen Martha and Alexis interacting with the kids. This was the best crime show ever!!! So beautiful!!!

Originally, the plan was for her to die & for him to return. He would continue as the private investigator with out any of the Precinct cast. ABC refused to pick up the 9th season so the ending you saw was cobbled together to give an ending
First time fans actually WANTED the show to end!
