I am 75 yr old female. 290 days ago I started lifting weights and doing resistance Training. At the beginning I could only use 1.5 lb dumbells for 10 reps. I am now using 5lb dumbells for 25 reps of each exercise. Using KETO I have lost over 55lbs and over 30 inches over all. The quality of my life is so incredible. Everything is easier. I feel better now than I did at 50. It is ALL about the "Quality of life"! People who know me say I look 15 years younger now. I eat home grown grass fed beef and pork, 3 eggs every other day. My physical strength has increased exponentially. I can now grab a 50lb bag of dog food , no problem. INVEST IN YOURSELF, THE QUALITY OF LIFE IS WORTH IT.

Update: I just surpassed the 1 year milestone on my fitness journey. I am still keeping the pounds off, but most important is gaining stability, strength and mobility. I have learned lifting conventional weights is only part of it. I have been exercising with U- tube videos from "Workout Guru". It has really improved my mobility. I have much greater confidence going up/down stairs, escalators, getting in/out of vehicles, etc. 75 and thriving! Best wishes and blessings to all who have given me kind words of encouragement ❤

I disagree. Tom's questions and rewording the concept made it so much easier to understand. He asked the right questions that required a very educated and specific answer from Dr. Lyons. Both together provided a fantastic amount of information. I am in that older category 76 and my question was where do I get the protein and amino acids and what kind of resistant work out. This conversation just whetted my appetite for more info and will follow up with Tom and Gabrielle. This was a 5 star interview for me.

My 90-minute routine is performed every other day. I just turned 71 this past September, and I've gained 14 pounds of muscle in the last 12 months. Huge respect for the guest for her patience and professionalism.... At the beginning it looks as the guest was constantly confronted with presenter's theories without having the possibility to explain her own point of view. All the theories could have been brought in a more balanced way during the conversation. It is ok to disagree with your guest, but probably the degree to which the presenter is passionate about the subject, did not allow him to do it in a professional manner. It is a particular shame as we know what kind of interviews he is capable of doing. This off-putting beginning made me stop watch the video.

Sources of food with great amino acid profiles are ALL from animal sources. She was formerly vegan/vegetarian. Her pushing for animal based sources are purely off of research. She had stated in other interviews that if the research showed plant protein was superior for muscle growth or preservation, she would be pushing that. She does have clients who are vegan/vegetarian and she finds ways for them to supplement and get the nutrients from sources that fill in the gap in their diet

I see two people (Tom and Dr Gab) here who are passionate about health, fascinated with the skeletal muscle (the body, longevity, etc) .. and I personally love the passion and level of engagement in each and every one of Tom's interviews. I see a man who (although he knows ALOT about several subjects in regards to the health of the body/mind/success) continues to maintain a teachable spirit and is still willing to learn, soak up and increase his level of understanding pray 🙏🏾. I love this interview.. and although we could have also enjoyed just hearing her talk and explain for a hour her knowledge.. it appears that she (the female Dr) was really enjoying the conversational interview.
Let's face it, I've interviews where the interviewer had questions, the interviewer answered and the interviewee was bored with the same old interview they've done before.
I think that Dr Gab is getting her brain picked, she's having to really think, she's getting challenged with interesting question after question by Tom B... I really think that a truly knowledgeable interviewEE LOVES THAT AND ENJOYS THAT INTERVIEW EVEN MORE 😁.
I think the interview was great for them both (Tom and Dr Gab).. it appears that they both greatly enjoyed it. Perhaps for me, some of the lingo and convo may have been a bit 'over my head' so I personally may have gotten more out of it if I hit PAUSE alot LOL so I can Google many of the terms used throughout the interview.

Rest, sleep and recovery are equally important to everything you discussed in this episode. I've been doing weight resistance training since I was 15 years old. Now at 63 I continue to see positive results from the weights and walking. The information we have now days compared to what was available when I was young regarding training and nutrition is a real blessing. The healthier we live does give us a higher quality of life as we age. My GGF was a perfect example of this. He ate small meals mostly out of his own garden and got a lot of exercise in the process. He live to be 105 years old without taking any prescription drugs.

Dr. Lyon, I have watched many of your discussions on TH-cam. This discussion on the importance of muscle mass was the best that I have seen. I am 74. I train with weights every other day at the gym always seeking slight progressive overload. I have been lifting weights since I was about twelve. Back then, I lifted weights to enhance my athletic abilities. I was a varsity lacrosse player in high school and college and played on a Division 1 nationally ranked team. Now, I train with weights and eat properly to extend my “health span”; not my “life span”. I supplement my diet daily with whey protein, collagen peptides, creatine, vitamins D3 and K2, zinc, and several other supplements. Although I’m not as strong as I used to be, I’m not an embarrassment at the gym. Finally, the above described lifestyle keeps my immune system strong. I am not vaccinated and have no intention of doing so. I sincerely believe that I would take a greater risk by injecting an experimental drug into my body than by maintaining my strength and eating properly.

Dr. Lyon is awesome here. Thanks for presenting this eye opening information. My focus has been on doing cardio but after this enlightening discussion I’m going to shift toward building muscle and strength training. I really like Tom’s style of logically eliciting all the nuggets of knowledge. Thanks!

Enjoyed that, especially towards the end. As a cycling coach, I can tell you that very few train hard enough (both lifting and cardio). They may think they're going hard, but they really aren't going hard. I also consider animal protein absolutely essential.

I wish more people would remember that "famine" isn't what most people in Western society need to worry about. Fasting for a few days (coughweekscough) would actually be great for most of us, because the FIRST thing that the body does, is start cleaning out fat and bad cells (like cancer cells and proteins building up in the brain). Musculature is not the first place that nutrients are pulled from.

Tom is spot on IMO. The body DOES NOT think long term. For example it I isn’t going to hold onto fat in a starving state because it’s thinking ahead. The body isn’t going to pay for muscle if the muscle isn’t needed for survival NOW. Muscle is created due to environmental stimuli demanding you adapt now or die. So you body builds muscle for the NOW and will get rid of it for the same reason because it is expensive to sustain.

You can go to her website to learn more. I did! And my body composition is completely different...much improved over my skinny fat vegan days. Total omnivore convert from veganism - so happy I found Dr. Lyon, and recognized what she had to teach us older adults is invaluable. She offers reasonably priced online courses also. But also lots of free info on her website, and on her YT channel. Check her out, you won't be sorry😉

@@jadejaguar69 I absolutely don't understand WHY so many here somehow think that Tom was against Dr. Lyon, thus against animal protein in this interview. I'm just waiting for some ignoramus to comment that Tom must be vegan😂
This is Tom's interview style to challenge his guests, and to interject his POV. Look a little deeper folks and acknowledge that you are trying to figure out Tom's mindset with YOURS.
IMO, if Tom came across as being against what Dr. Lyon had to say (and no way did I get that impression but others apparently did), just consider for a moment, he may have been playing devil's advocate, on one of the hottest, most widely politicized subjects of our times e.g....
      vegan vs carnivore😳
