my A550 cannot recognize the 1GB SD card, which used to be recognized. I tested the card on my new camera and it still worked

i came across your page, i inserted a 4gb but it still says memory card error :/ I have the same exact camera
It's odd. As u can see I tested 8 and 16 and even 32 gb memory on it. And all worked fine.Are u try for format?Or test on another camera?

Test another sd card.If your camera works fine with other sd cards, maybe that 1 sd card not compatible with camera.
what sd or sd adapter did you use for the heavier micro sd’s
A cheap Chinese one and a Samsung. I have 2 adapters. Both work fine.
Did you know if it’s canon powershot 540, is it the same??
I think it should be similar. But I can't say that certainly.
is it alright if i use a 64gb sd card?

Unfortunately as u can see I didn't have a 64gb card. But I can guess 64gb is to heavy for this camera to handle it.
I just bought a 64g and had to return it... It did not work, it said " sd card not working"
Only use SD cards. Not SDHC and modern cards.
Both works fine. And sd adaptors are cheap.
