  • How to R&R ignition switch. Many Camaros and F Bodies have ignition switch problems. Quite often it is issues with the VATS system. In this case, my keys were taken. However, quite often the GM VATS security system has a problem with the coded keys. The fix is to wire in a matching resistor into the ignition wire. In this case, that has already been done earlier in this one's life. So this is how to remove your ignition switch from your Gen 4 and save a ton of money as opposed to the alternative.

at about the 7:30 mark of the video, you advised us that the key was difficult to turn after the screw was replaced to hold the lock cylinder in. this happened to me while working on my son's camaro. 1988. we used a hand file to increase the size of the groove on the lock cylinder and it relieved the situation. normal force needed to turn the key cylinder afterward.

How did you read the ohms without the original key? Im having trouble figuring out which resistor it is because when i measured it, it read 5.86 and constantly it doesnt change

Has been a while since I rassled with this. As I recall, there was a list of the resistor specs and you could go thru a process of trial and error to narrow down the correct spec. Good luck

Chuck Fasst sorry i forgot to mention it but i located the 2 packs closest to it which where 4.87 and 6.12 i believe it was between those two and im trying to figure out the process of it do i wait 5 minutes before trying a new resistor or do i wait 5 minutes while the resistor is plugged in and once i try it with the key do i half to hold it in the on position or does it automatically start off the bat

@@losthreeonetwo2049 Hard for me to remember these days. I recall having to put the key into ACC position for 10 min. at times when I experienced the security lock preventing starting. Was a real pain in the ass ... I do remember THAT! I don't think holding switch in ON position will help you imho
