Awesome video! Ordered R 1300 GS with ASA few weeks ago, for next year. Made kind of a gamble since there were no motorbikes with ASA to test in my country. But watching videos like yours, i think that i made right decision since everyone seems to praise slow maneuvers with ASA. Also the thought of adaptive cruise control in combination with automatic drive mode for long travels is really appealing. And this is why i ordered it with ASA in first place 😊
Thank you for this review. I've just ordered this very model, with ASA, for delivery March 1st. I can not wait. The ASA only gets great reviews, so i know ive made the right decision, and as you say, the future. I also loved your review, as twice now ive been to Norway, both times staying in Stavanger. You pulled into a campsite which i recognised, although in July packed solid. Thanks again 👍
Most of the time the weather in Central Europe is better than here I think :-) But it looks bad in some parts of Europe just now. I hope it turns better soon. Just some miles east of my home city we also have had awful weather with floods, roads closed, bridges damaged. Landslides. But no people missing or injured as far as I know. Looking forward to the Spring here :-)
Nice o hear it changing gear , I think I’d stick to manual after lots of honda dct auto not for me, this implementation looks and sounds better than the Honda dct however ,
@ I’d be will not to but not for at least 3 years when my service plan is up on my 1300 gs , by then the dealers will be telling me how little it’s worth and I’ll probably keep it 😂 doubt I’d go automatic , I don’t do enough town / city work , I like to be in control of gear selection myself , if I want dynamic throttle and suspension I’d be stuck with the sporty holding onto the gears all the time even if I didn’t want it , in road my bike is perfect I know you can override it with manual but then when not just have manual, if I was disabled then yes it’s perfect
I also have a service plane 3year/30000km on mine. I will not trade it in for ASA of course, Im so used to manual transmission (both in cars and motorcycles) so its no problem for me to use clutch and change gear and have the full control. But still I think it is the future. Next gen riders have a different background. Over half of those buying the Africa Twin choose the one with DCT, and I think it will increase. Honda has also released E-Clutch and others are going in the same path. :-)
That is a big lump of metal. Sat on one at the weekend. I know a lot of people like dct ir auto gearbox. Not sure I'm ready for it yet. But on a long tiring trip maybe... Ride safe 👍
I am 58 and happy i postpone buying a new GS/GSA this summer, because i like the BMW - ASA system, will probably have this if i buy for next year to come. I read some say the ASA do not have a gearshifter as on manual, it only is a electric "Switch" ... ?? I have seen Honda DCT on a NC750XD DCT, witch use buttons. What is u experience and thoughts about that ? I do prefer in my mind the GS before GSA. One you-tuber said, its only the GSA big tank that intimidate people. Before i did c that GSA always had like "engine protection" included. What do u think ? Will u go anytime for a GSA before a GS ??
Yes the gear shifter is pure electric now, but it felt like on my GS without ASA to use. I didnt think about it at all when I rode the bike. BMW could put the shifter to the handlebar if they would, but they decided to keep it where people are used to. I just rode 1/4 of the test in the manual mode, 3/4 in automatic. Even in automatic mode you may shift gear with the electric gearshifter if you want. I think people most of the time will ride it in the automatic mode :-) Although the GSA is heavier than the GS it didnt feel like that. It is very nimble. But it is higher and that may be a reason for some to go for the GS. But also the 2025 GS has now the ASA option available. Good luck with your purchase !! Cheeers from Sven
Haha, no I did not. Very happy with my R1300GS, but if I switch bike once more before I enter the Paradise, I will bring with me a R1300GS with ASA (or maybe they are free up there) 🤔
I loved the 1300GSA. And I hated the ASA. With a vengeance. It ruined the whole bike for me. Then I took the manual version out. Sublime, absolute bliss.
@@onahi2002 yes so far I have only seen positive comments about ASA as well. But of course, many love to change gear/clutch manually even if ASA works very well.
@@tubelesschannel You can still change gear manually with the ASA. There's a button, D (Drive auto) And M manual. Some people simply don't like change.
Ye, well - BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER - To me, this bike is - to say it politely - I don't like it so much 🤷♂ The automagic gear is very tempting. It is easy and relaxing, but that IS the problem ! - if you are not a musician ( at least as a hobby ) and you do not desire to get the cognitive performance level reduced - no automagic gearing should be, constantly, used. One thing - a car like Electric, Hybrid... that comes with auto-gear as default, another - a bike. The ACC is a very useful feature, that almost catapulted me forward, out of the saddle, when one car, in front of me, was changing lane, but had about a 1/3 of its' ass, still in my lane..... The bike decided it NEEDED to STOP ! .... 🤢🤢 - and I was too - riding RELAXED ( no hands....). So ☝☝🤨
Im not a beholder :-) It was probably not built to win any beauty contest, but to be practical. And it is. I agree with you that it is relaxing, so the combo with ACC and front collision warning is good and make the use of ASA safer. The safest rides are those where you are riding "active" and focused. (Not when relaxing). The BMW let you just how intrusive the ACC and FCW should be. I had to adjust it less intrusive for the same "catapulted" experience you had :-) Cheers

Yes slow maneuvers was very easy with ASA. You will probably be very happy with the bike 🙂 Congrats in advance !
Triple black is the best. The ASA and adaptive height control will allow me to resume riding. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching !

Thanks for watching and welcome back to Norway with you GSA 🙂
What a weather!! We would be happy for this one in Central Europe, these days

Yes and also a lot people was sceptic to ride the Africa Twin DCT offroad, but they got used to it and many dont look back 🙂 Ride Safe !!

what about slow speed manoeuvring and tight u-turns?
I did and it works very well.
You have probably ordered New since you drive 30,000 a year Sven?

This is the first negative comment I've seen about ASA. Very interesting😮@@tubelesschannel
