Back in 1984 John Paul II visited Thailand. To the surprise of many be visited a Buddhist Temple in Bangkok, know as Rajchaborpitsathitmahasrimaram.

This was a part of his formal visit to Thailand in 1984, the first time that Pope visit to Thailand which is one of the Buddhist - majority countries. There are not more than 1 - 2% of Thai people who are Catholic. In this clip, he visited to Bowonniwet Vihara temple in Bangkok to visit and have a talk with the Supreme Patriarch or Sangha Raja, the head of Buddhist monks in Thailand, this position is appointed by the King. His missions in this visit were also to meet the King (The King once visited to Vatican in 1960 during the reign of Pope John XXIII), to make a Eucharist with Thai Catholics, to visit refugee camp in the eastern part of the country which had a refugees from conflicts in Indochina, and to give an ordination to the new Thai priests. I cannot remember them all and I'm sorry if I used some religious words wrong because I am not Christian.

What I would like to know why didnt the chief monk bother stand up to greet the Pope ? Like the pope did, after all when someone is visiting you ,u welcome him by at least standing up out of respect !

For beyond the suffering what given by body, sensations , perceptions intentions and consciousness. Buddhist monks never respect atleast the King. They only respect elder monks and Lord Buddha only. And buddhist people also worship them by kneeling down. Kings also worship them. In a Buddhist country, monks are more sublime than a saint.

However, as someone truly wanting genuine peace and unity, I'm happy to see these religious leaders of different faiths come together like friends. Not enemies. Imagine if ALL religions or religious sects keep doing this. Other organizations or entities could then do the same and help finally bring about everlasting world peace. We would all then be all peas of the same pod, in very good way of course, that need to come together anyways.
