    That fear factor you mentioned wasn't something I ever considered due to my love for horror games, but it makes total sense when you say it like that! It definitely is important to portray blindness as something other than fear-inducing.

    You should play Counter Strike Global Offensive. Valve has a lot of focus on making the models stand out in contrast to their background, because of their philosophy is that only skill should count. They also have a very good sound engine, which makes sound a core feature for competetive gameplay in CSGO! Give it a try!

    No problem man. I'm glad to help in anyway I can. Like I say, if you do have an iOS device, you'll want to check out the audio games. So far, I have 36 Dramatized audio games. A couple of them need to use voiceover along with them, but they are still all dramatized audio games, and you might need to disable voiceover. Some of them, however, you can leave voice over on while using very few of the 36 games I have. What do I mean by dramatized? You'll notice in some Games out there, voiceover will be in the background talking, instead of actual people. Most games however that are traumatized, you will need to disable voiceover. Or, you may need to have voiceover on, but then when the game starts, you will need to turn voiceover off. I hope this helps.

    I am a gamer as well, I still have game consoles from super Nintendo, N64 to PS3. And yes they all still work. Since I love playing the sport games and racing and of course GTA 4 & 5 on PS3 because I can go into game settings and make the contrast bright. then do the same on the tv since on the GTA games it is so dark. Yes a pain in a$$ to change the tv contrast all the time. the sport games don't need to because it is all simple and bright contrast even tho after 15 -20 mind of playing y eyes are struggling to focus because of light sensitivity

    My Xbox has been packed away for over a year because I can't see games well enough, would be awesome to get back on it with some accessibility options for them.
    I tell u what gets to me the most on a regular basis is, subtitles.
    I love film but every film now days seems to have some subtitles init.
    I wish there was an option in the menu to have these sections dubbed (so the other half doesn't have to read them to me lol)
    Unless u know of anything?

      If you were talking about movies, they do have audio described DVDs, that can be purchased in the regular stores. I tried to look for them whenever I have the interest or the money to. If you're talking about games, I'm sorry, but I can't help you as far as subtitles or accessibility options for games. I'm totally blind, but I do know of two Wii games that are accessible. First of all there's the Wii game that comes with the Wii, we sports. I can set up the Wii by myself, with no sighted assistance. It's knowing where to point the remote, and when to press the a button. The other one is super smash Brothers brawl. The awesome thing about that game is that the guy will tell you what character you are clicking on. How awesome is that! there's another Wii game called Williams pinball. That one's accessible, I guess. At least I can get to the game. But the two I would really recommend is the sports and super smash Brothers brawl. I wrote down instructions on how to get to the Wi-Fi menu, to connect to other players. So, if someone has super smash Brothers brawl for the wii, I'd be happy to play you online sometime.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +YuXia Sun hello, it's great to meet you! As I talk about in this video and some of my other videos on gaming, they are in the "Tech" playlist, people with low vision really benefited from high contrast. If the game had an option to adjust the contrast for people with low vision, that would be awesome! The game could be created for individuals with normal vision but people with low-vision could adjust the settings, contrast, color, to make it easier for them to play! Also having the option to enlarge on screen text would be great!

    • @didosun7049
      @didosun7049 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, The Blind Spot ! Nice to met you too! Cause I am still studying in English, please feel free to say it, if you were confused by my words. Our team wanted to design a game for the VI kids. It is a video game. The map of the game is the same as the real world. So that when kids play the game, they will remember the map of the real world. It is a adventure to get diamond without hurt by scary monsters. By the way,we was wondering that if the player can use the dancing mat to control the game? Do you think the idea is good or bad? Please feel free to speak straight, the user's experience is the most important for a designer!

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      YuXia Sun I think that would be great, it would be something different than other games. However for people with low vision, it wouldn't work very well. If the player is standing up, they would be too far away from the screen to see the game. When I play a videogame my face is about 6 to 10 inches away from the screen. So in the case of someone with low vision, you would need the option to use a controller as well. Also your English is very good for someone still learning! :-)

    • @didosun7049
      @didosun7049 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you are right~so that we want to let the music and voice lead the VI people to up~or turn left or turn right~thank you very much, I will work harder :-D

    Hey if you haven't checked out Batman Arkham Asylum and City, u should cos theres a mode called detective mode which is sorta like thermal vision and makes it easier to play. Played through both these games with that mode being on. Also The Last of Us has a mode where the characters focus their hearing. The issue with that game though is that mode isn't toggle able, and has a bit too much reading, still fun though. Could you do a video on what games you find easy to play at the moment?

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! Thanks for the info! I did play Batman Arkham Asylum and I remember using that mode alot! That's also why I use thermal sights on all my snipers in Call Of Duty, easier to see the bad guys! I'd be happy to make that video! I'll try to get to it this week!

    Hey dude,
    I was recently watch a Tv Show, and there was a comment that made me think... something like... "Why would a blind kid have a video game" (That's kinda out of context)
    But it got me thinking, what can blind people play (or VI)... so I did some looking, and this is where it led me. So I have a few questions, and a few ideas... so here goes!
    - How do you like some of the audio only games? What do the lack compared to the normal games?
    - Have you heard of games that use feeling as well as hearing? (more about this later)
    - Did three monkeys come out? and how was the combat/Movement?
    - What game genres would most like to see made for VI/Blind people? I thought platformer and puzzle games would work (or maybe a mixer of those 2)
    - Any ideas for combat?
    I thought you could use vibrations in phones/tablets to let players feel their way through a level. For example.
    - You enter a level, your player starts on the far left, you begin feeling around the level, when you hit a platform it would buzz for 1 sec, while a enemy would buzz twice quickly... Items would have different buzzs...
    You could then make your way through the level, which method would you prefer...
    - You drag your finger around the level, to make the path of your character...
    - You feel the level and play in real time (maybe left thumb to control, right finger to feel the environment)
    - You feel the level, then tap your character to activate controls to run through the level.
    With the entire feeling the level, scrolling would be a problem unless you scan the environment in real time... or move from one screen to the next (non smooth scrolling)

    Hey, if you haven't already heard of it, there is a game called Blind Side where you play as a blind person. It's technically meant for people who aren't blind to try to experience what it's like, but they make it very accessible for blind people to play, too. It has no graphics besides the control panel. None. As in, zero. And the control system is not something you have to see; everything is actually jut the arrow keys. The game is about 3-4 dollars, but it's worth much more than that. It's not very popular yet, according to the amount of you tube videos on it, but the game is absolutely amazing and deserves more credit than it's given.
    The basis of the game is that you wake up in your apartment in the middle of the night, completely blind. At first, you think it's a power outage, so you get your flashlight and turn it on. When it doesn't work, you conclude that it's out of battery. So, you head into the kitchen to find a match. You strike the match, and nothing shows. Your girlfriend, who also suddenly became blind, asks you if everything is alright, and you say that you don't know yet, and you're going to go into the hall. As you do so, you hear loud sobbing. Heading in the direction of the sobbing, you ask if the person sobbing is your neighbor. She says yes, and then says that she thinks she's blind, and asks if you can take her to the hospital. You explain that you can't see either, before suddenly you hear hear loud footsteps. You call out "Who's there?" but there is no response. The footsteps grow louder and you hear your neighbor scream, growling, and the crunching of bones. Terrified, your girlfriend, still in the apartment, calls out to you. You follow her voice back to the apartment, the monstrous being in pursuit. As you close and lock the door, you run towards your girlfriend, who suggests jumping out the window. Knowing there is no other option, you agree, and you soon find yourself in the street.
    That's all I'll give you for now, since I don't want to spoil too much, but it's a really good game. :)

    Hey man, what's up! You know, if you do have an iPod, iPhone, iPad, or any thing like that, there are tons of awesome audio games, that don't have any visual thing on the screen at all. If they do, it just says the name of the game you're playing. And, one thing you were talking about reminded me of a game called blind side. It might be available for android, I'm not sure. Anyway, in BlindSide, you have been blinded in the night, and you're with your girlfriend, Donna. You go and try to kill this creature, but you're totally blind. It's such a cool game, it uses the iPhone's gyro. It's a 3-D sound game. There is some awesome awesome games out there man, and I really really encourage you to look at them. Like I say, they are available for iOS, and one game is available for android. That game is free, and it is called Audio Archery. It's a pretty tough game to beat. I've tried on my Google Nexus seven, and it works. So if you going to the Google play store, and type in Audio Archery, you should be able to find it. You might try typing in audio games, and see what you come up with in the play store. But I do know that Audio Archery is in the android play store. You will need headphones, but it is really really cool.
