    about 15 years ago, 2 dear friends of mine gave me a pair of braille dice for my birthday. I managed to get 3 more and love to play yachtzee with them. I have a blind friend who buys playing cards at the dollar store and brailles them for herself.
    I have a large collection of LARGE PRINT word search books. Most of which I picked up at the dollar store and large font ones I picked up at a book store.
    Great video!
    Thank you for the tips!

    Hi Karey, what a fun video! There are so many games out there that are adapted than ever before and it is exciting to learn about all of them. My favorite all-time board game is monopoly. When I played as a Child, I could see to move my race car around the board but my cousins would read the cards and sometimes help me retrieve flying dice. We would stay up all night over the summer months and play the game all the way through. I also love bop it and cards but I don’t play them anymore. I have a good friend in Canada who goes to play cards three nights a week and he is the only blind guy in the whole group. Oh, he also usually wins. LOL. This was just a really fun video. Thanks for all the info. Love Beverlyg

    I remember the boppit. I used to have two of them. I had one called the boppit Junior, which is a smaller version of the original boppit and then I had the boppit extreme. I really enjoyed it but I lost them both a few years ago when I moved.

    • @ukekrazy1242

      I have a collection of bopits. My favorite is a double sided record player. It'll say "Scratch it" or "reverse it" and of course "Bopit" and then eventually "Flip it" its a fun time! I watched a TH-cam video to figure out the gestures.

    • @LiveAccessible
      @LiveAccessible  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome! We only had the original bop it when we grew up. now I tried to look for it and it is so expensive! They only have the other one where you have to literally smash it for it to sense that you bought it lol! I spent an hour with that one when I stole it from one my niece. :-)

    Great video! I also love bop it! Another tip that I would add is that for games that require you to draw a card and read it to yourself, I now use an AirPod and seeing AI to read these cards and it works like a charm.It Has opened up so many board game options for me

  • @kirkclarke7396
    @kirkclarke7396 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for making this video, it was really interesting to learn about how these great games are made. I have made lots of different computer games, the best ones were online versions of board games. One of the things I have learnt is that the most addictive games like those found in casinos and family games like monopoly can easily be turned to a text based game which is what I now prefer making, and these can quite easily be changed to an audio game, not that they need to be, so I'd say you can play every good game ever made

    My jam is Monopoly (probably because you find out just what someone is made of when you play.) Before I went blind, I had a regular Monopoly game, but last year, I invested in a Braille Monopoly board. (Hell yeah! 😈)
    My mom has the old school Bop It, and it still works! The last time I played it, I damn near lost my mind. 🤣🤣🤣
    Jenga...yeah...that game.
    Perfection nearly gives me a coronary. That timer ticking really keys me up.
    Great video Carrie! 😉❤️

    • @LiveAccessible
      @LiveAccessible  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Bop it was SO much fun!!! I only played the extreme version once when my friend let me borrow it. I never heard of the bop it mkaer! What is that one? It sounds really interesting. Have you tried the newer ones that have the touch sensing? I prefer the original because my hand hurt hitting the bopit and it still didn't notice that I hit it. But that might just be the one I had. Anyway, thank you for your comment! 😊

    I forgot about dominos! I have some of those and really like them. It seems like the easiest thing to get other people to play who never usually played any type of game. I am remembering my favorite game ever that was the best gift! Mousetrap! The one where you build the Rube Goldberg contraption that triggers off each part of the trap! Hee! probably the first reason I always loved dominos too before even knowing how to play the game. Grins!

    Oh my gosh, I absolutely enjoyed playing bop it! My husband and I went through a phase where we couldn’t put that thing down. LOL! Some of my favorite card games are Uno, regular playing cards, and cards against humanity. Though I have not been able to find a set of cards against humanity in braille. The ones I played with belonged to my friend and I believe she brailled them on her own. Another game that I still enjoy to this day is Jenga, and Mancala. I also enjoyed checkers but have not gotten the chance to purchase that one yet. It is definitely on my wish list along with scrabble and possibly monopoly. I am so beyond happy that they have all of these options in braille as that is my preferred method for reading playing cards, boardgames, etc. ☺️

    • @LiveAccessible
      @LiveAccessible  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! Thank you for your comment! Sorry for my late reply! Yes, it's great that we have all those option and I loved bop it too! And monopoly when I was younger... though I'm not sure we played it right. LOL! But also, what's interesting is now that my son is 3, we have been trying to find interesting games for him that are also accessible so that my husband who is totally blind can join in. HHi ho cherrio is great and also yetti in my spaghetti. I never was good at scrabble, but checkers and chess are also great! 😊

    About 12 years ago I still had a little sight, and with a dealer telling me the flop cards numbers and suits, I was able to manage to play Texas Hold'em very well, and I love that game most of all. However, about 5 years ago I went truly totally blind and havn't been able to play anything since 12 years ago. I only feel comfortable using a Windows PC laptop with Jaws screen reader. Do you know off hand what would be the best audible only Texas Hold'em platform? Thanks for your video, I remember playing all those board games you mentioned with my siblings growing up! You have inspired me to attempt to learn at least basic braille to know at least letters and numbers and maybe symbols on playing cards.

    Tactile boards are magnificent for blind people. The difficulty is to find opponents online.
    With regard specifically to checkers, I don't even know about online platforms where I can play in an accessible way, using screen readers.
    I know the Play Room platform. From a software, installed in Windows, I have access to several games.
    Despite the various board games, chess, backgammon, reversi and go, unfortunately, there is still no possibility to play checkers.
    Do you know any accessible means that would allow me to play checkers online, either with blind or sighted people?

    Hi. I just bought a couple games so I can play with my girlfriend. We are both blind. I don’t know Brea like that. Maybe you could help me with some games to be tactile‘s
    Do they have Uno cards that you can feel the numbers raise up like a credit card you know how you can feel the numbers across? Something like that. Where you can feel a giant number raise up or maybe you can feel a line of a number in words? Second question do they have blind people battleship? Same thing. That you can feel the numbers and the letters raise up.
    And the third one. Do they have blind people bingo? Again where you can feel the numbers raise up on each roles under the letters? And also the thing where you called out the numbers And letters?
    And do they have blind people trouble? Or any talking games for two people?
    Let me know where if you find anything. Remember I don’t know braille like that. I only know three letters but I don’t see why it would be hard to make those games like that. Where you can feel the numbers because some of the games that I mentioned there they only have it on large print or braille. I would like them to make it tactile I would love it if they make it where you can feel the actual number raise up. I also tried looking for monopoly same idea but they don’t have it. They only have it on braille. And one of my Favorite. The memory game. I don’t see why it would be hard to do it where you can feel each pieces with different shapes and stuff. So let me know if you know about any place that make this games the way I explain it to you. Thank you so much and I really appreciate it.

    • @LiveAccessible
      @LiveAccessible  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. Thanks for watching and unfortunately come out all these games are in braille. I don't believe there are any tactile aversions except for trouble. I think there is one on Maxiaids. Bill would be the standard, and it would probably be very difficult to manufacture something raised lined four numbers and letters. It'll also be very difficult for many blind users to handle something like that as opposed to braille. Maybe if you get these games and have some help to make them tactile it could help you out to play them. Maybe you can put different types of material on them like different size and different shaped bump dots or different textures. I hope that you are able to figure it out and I wish you all the best!

    This was a fantastic video. You did such a good job Carrie I'm not kissing your butt I am just flored with all the cool stuff you showed.
    I want that chess set. I have never even thought of looking for something like that. I love chess.
    My favorite board game however has to be heroes quest. I even made my own video based on that board game which I'm sure you remember.
    there is a few regular board games that are really good for the vision impaired and blind and I will be making a video about those soon.
    it when it comes to video games there is one video game that I'm keeping a secret and I will be making a video about that soon as well. but I can tell you this even if you have no light perception whatsoever this game is for you.
    Thank you for giving me so many new options at my disposal.
    I absolutely love the cards there were white on black and black on red etc. I want those badly.
    Also, thought you'd like to know that Maxie ate actually has an Amazon store. So pretty much anything you can get on maxiaides website you can get also on Amazon through them.
