Too bad we aren't doing a 'grumpy old man' challenge. I could participate! But I'll look forward eagerly to a challenge you can tackle and I could not. Unless there's croaking involved? Or growling? I can croak and growl! Arrrrr! (Too much hard living, too many cigars. If anyone ever tells you cigars will be great for your voice, he is not your friend.) So, I'll say it. Katrina is tons better than the single-style pop singers manufactured from raw clay by the Big Labels because they look cute in skimpy outfits. Katrina has crazy good vocal control, flexibility, excellent riffs, a whistle voice to make anyone envious. (Well, *I'm* not envious, but you know what I mean. Singers.) Not all of her impressions were spot-on, but they were all great fun. This is pretty much the total package, isn't it? Sense of humor, sings like a goddess in just about any style (haven't heard opera yet, though). She must have bribed that baby. I'm trying to figure out what bribe would work. Firecrackers? A hunting knife? A pet poisonous snake? Parachuting into a hostile jungle with a day pack and hiking boots? It would absolutely have to be forbidden to yield that much good behavior.

My ears aren't trained for the latter and I get bored with the former. She's so talented and skilled, though! Imagine what she could do if she went at it like Dimash does. Hook up with a gifted composer, strike out in new directions made possible by her vocal skills, give us something we've never experienced before. She could! I wish she would. I did listen to a couple of her covers. She's not feeling it. Competent but not committed. She goes through a score like a machine. The most fun she has is when she's imitating various other artists, almost mocking them. That's original and interesting. But she hasn't found her own 'voice.' It's not Katrina speaking when she does a cover; it's someone else, speaking through her. The extra distance is off-putting. She needs a better voice coach, I think. All of that amazing talent... she needs to get acting and commitment into every phrase, and make better use of vocal dynamics to tell the story. She doesn't seem to know how. And she sure won't learn it from manufactured pop.

Tell me what this shows is that Katrina has fantastic ears, and can figure out what each person is doing with their vocal tract very well.
