I've been a T1D and have used a pump for over 13 years. NEVER have I EVER put it on my arm because bottom line is I'm afraid to. THIS video gave me the guts to go ahead and try it. So once I get home from work I have to change it because it just hurts every time insulin is being delivered, so wish my luck!!
Dear Danica, Thank you so much for this tutorial. We just changed from a different infusion set. So helpful - for so many reasons. Not just instructive but your positive attitude is incredibly helpful.

I use a tandem t:slim with the same infusion sets. Right now I only put them on my stomach and "lower back" but I have been thinking about trying my arms! Thanks for the information!
First off, you look like Supergirl from the TV show. Which is super awesome.
Second, I've been type 1 for 8 years and always been afraid of moving my pump site to somewhere other than my stomach. I didn't start putting it on my leg until 3 years ago when I got the tslim. But today, changing my site out (i've been having blood sugar issues and think moving it somewhere new might help), I looked up how to put it on the arm and found your video. This is super helpful and your upbeat attitude makes me feel like I can do this and not be afraid. Wish me luck!!

Same but for me i do my stomach leg and butt never on the arm idk why it just weird for me to hold it there cuz my sensor G4 in on my other hand

I have been watching your videos a loooooot and thinking of starting a new channel. If I ever do so it will be in both Arabic (Moroccan) and English. It is so unfortunate that a lot of people still do not understand Diabetes. In my opinion, it is important that non-diabetes understand diabetes as well because surely there is someone in the house that can provide support. Thank you !

This is awesome! My 8 year old son is on the Ping system I've only seen the OmniPod placed on the arm. Maybe I can talk him into trying his infusion set on the arm. We place it on the abdomen right now but I'd love to give his tummy a break
my arm is my favourite place to put mine:) i’ve had it on my stomach more often now though... i’m actually setting mine up at the moment... i’ve had type one for 13 years and i’m 14 years old now. i was diagnosed on christmas eve 2005, when i was 16 months old :)
I love to use Freestyle Libre sensor and Ambrosia Nightider to check my blood glucose value and love the feature for calibration.
I just got my Tslim x2 and I'm trying to figure out ways to put it but I never thought to put it on my arm. I do however put my GM 6 on my arm. But I want to thank you for sharing

I recently started putting my cgm sensor in my thigh, and my Infusion set for my pump in my upper butt/lower back. so far, so good. however, I have noticed a difference in the absorption rate though, compared to my tummy.

I was never given anything for T1D and the reason is because when I was growing up the Missouri the doctors didn't like me.

So I plan to sue the Medical Tower when it opens back up in Missouri again. I am also going to sue Oxford HealthCare as well. I am 25 and I am almost 26 years old. I was born at 24 weeks early and I have lots of disabilities.

I like using my arm but I have yet to figure out a way to put it in by myself because I use the angled sets so it is hard to insert it with one hand!

I know this is a long shot, since this is so old, but I have used this insertion set a few times now, and am not comfortable with them, when I pull the blue thing off, it always would pull the cath with it... My question though is, I couldn't use my arms because you kind of have to pinch and pull to "quick" release, and that is really a two hand job. How many here find they can do it with one hand? This is the only time I have seen someone successfully do it!

Wait Danica did you say that was an inset 30? I use the inset 30 and it looks very different from the set you used in this video. I think you maybe use the regular inset or inset 90?

She said inset 30...which is NOT what she's using in the video. She's using an Inset II - which goes in at 90 degrees. The Inset 30 goes in at 30 degrees. Easy mistake to make.

Ive had t1d for 17 years and have been to afraid to have shots or my infusion sets anywhere other than my stomach. Have you every been afraid of trying new sites? and if so do you have any advice?
Yes I have been! Just go for it - it's so worth it!
You know, I'm a diabetic (type 1) myself, and there is a pump called on iPod. It is tubeless and comes with an amazing PDM. No hard insertion, just stick it on your arm and a little cathitar goes in. Ask your dermatologist about it.☺️
Yes I have heard of the Omnipod! :) It's just a little too big for my liking :)

I put my sets on my abdomen as my arm they never stay very well and it is not comfortable for me.
quick tip: I use the 8mm mio and you NEED to remove the needle cover BEFORE the coiled paper or the needle cover will drag the entire set off the inserter.

i tried on my infusion set on thigh but always hurt :( so i always use my belly so when i feel that i no more area for infusion set the i star insulin pen for 1 month :( i don't know why i don't feel comfortable on other places :(
When I put it on my thigh I can't feel it but I always hit a vein so when I take off my set blood gets everywhere
That infusion set looks identical to the tandem autosoft.
I'm getting a Tandem to go with my Dexcom, but I have a bunch of pen filled humalog. Can you just draw from the pen the same as the vile?
soulfader72 I don't know if you have gotten your answer yet or not but just in case yes you can you just don't put air in the pen the way you would with a vile just draw it straight out
Yes ☺ I am pretty new to the pump so I had several pens left. I talked to my doctor and she told me how to extract the insulin from the pen and either put it in the cannula or in the vial. I did the vial mainly so I could empty the pens and discard them. I hated wasting the insulin because I had paid a lot for them (before insurance) lol
I'm gonna have to try this one day. I'm so clumsy and run into stuff all the time tho and would probably rip it out.
Hahah when I first started wearing the Dexcom on my arm I would always bump into doorways! The pump site is pretty small though, so that doesn't happen to me
I wear a Dex, too. I have no peripheral vision, though, thanks to diabetic retinopathy, plus I'm clumsy, so.... I run into things way more than your normal person. My arms look like I'm either an abuse victim or on drugs. :( Neither of which is true. Unless abusing myself via way of a door frame counts?
OMG, I thought I was the only one doing that. It's one of the main reasons I stopped wearing a pump for a while.
I noticed that you put it in your right arm, and you used your left hand to insert it. Are you left handed? Are you able to insert it with your non dominant hand?
I'm right handed actually, so yeah I can do it with both hands!

I also have mio for medtronics. blue thing has to come off first.. I love using the disposable inserters. only thing I don't like is feeling like a irresponsible consumer Cuz of all the trash I throw away after a set change. I have to use the stickers to keep tape down everywhere except my tummy. during summer I have to use two and sandwich my set on my person.

Is it true that insulin infusion set sites grow fatty over time? I don't want to use my abdomen any more because I think I have grown boobs on my abdomen after 16 years on the pump. I'd rather grow more fatty on my lower back/ butt if anywhere. But, my doc says those sites are the reason my insulin absorption is not as quick as it needs to be for good control. I might try my arm, but I need to order longer tubing for that experiment. Anyone have thoughts on this topic?
I just changed mine this morning, but I am still using my tummy... scared to try other places!!! (only had my pump for 6 months)

+Brooke Pettigrew, +a simpleton's guide to the truth you guys should try your lower back! i know it can be scary but the more you practice, the easier it gets. i find that if you insert the set further away from your spine, it hurts less!

Diabetic of 13 years here, and STILL terrified of putting my pump site on the back of my arm. This definitely helped, but I still need to know if you run into any issues putting sites on the arm, ie. hitting nerves, veins, muscles. It just seems so risky to me 😭
There are no risks of putting it on your arm, especially no veins.

I love my arm too! I use the same set but with a t:slim. I love the t:slim because I stick my pump in my bra and I can't even feel it! So that I don't reach up my shirt too much I leave the tubing dangling so I can just pull down on it and my pump comes with it.
Sue Carhart Love my tslim. But I am terrified of using my arms. I have said it many times, I am a super weenie and use numbing spray for set changes.
When I first got my pump I got a prescription from my doctor for lidocaine cream to put on before putting it in. Granted, it was a bulkier site and hurt more. Now I use a needle instead of cannula. But don't be ashamed, it makes the process easier and painless.

This is just a little late for me. My mom told me not to use my arm until at least September because it got swollen and really bloody when it got caught on the doorknob.
Hey type one diabetics (who are reading the comments)! I know we're not supposed to, but does anyone have the infusion site on the same arm as the cgm? I'm currently using the Freestyle Libre. I really want a pump but my doctor doesnt recommend it, however, I'd still like to know. Thanks a lot

Hi Kara :) My doctor doesnt recommend it as he doesnt think I need to use it. In Hong Kong, it's usually kids or teens who's blood sugar levels are unstable and hard to control that uses pumps. Plus, he thinks it's inconvenient to carry around and easy to go wrong with the tubing falling off and stuff like that. It's also hard to store and stuff as we have to wear school uniforms. I also like to play sports so the sweat may also be a problem for me. However, I would love to try it someday! If you know anything about pumps or if youre using one, do tell me more about it!
I wouldn't personally because I have chicken arms that have barely any room and no muscle.

Your doctor sounds a bit old fashioned. That's what pumps used to be used for, but they are perfectly fine for adults as well. It's easy and convenient most of the time. :)

You get used to carrying it around. I hardly notice mine anymore. The tubing itself is very strong and the infusions sets (the stuff stuck to you) almost never falls off; they are made to be waterproof, so sweat isn't a problem when the glue has dried/settled on your skin, which takes maybe an hour at most. You just have to remove all oil from your skin with a shower or alcohol swab before, and have completely dry skin before attaching it.
It used to sometimes fall off for me before it was supposed to when I started using my Accu-Chek Spirit pump 8 years ago, but they changed the glue and now it's hard to get off, even after 3 days! :P

Then I would recommend a wireless pump with a bolus guide integrated with your BG meter. I upgraded my Accu-Chek Spirit pump to the new wireless version (Bluetooth) called Accu-Chek Spirit Combo about 4 - 5 years ago, as it can be controlled through the BG meter that comes with it. In this case you almost never need to take your pump out to physically push any buttons. You can have it hanging on your bra, in your pocket, on your waistband, or hang it on a purposefully made elastic band that you can have around your stomach, arm or leg. You can also buy underwear made specifically for pump users.
When you test your blood glucose with the meter, then it will recommend an insulin dose calculated from your current blod glucose level and the amount of carbohydrates you will be eating. Then you just push "Ok" if you agree with the recommendation, or change it to something different, and the pump will start injecting insulin. :)

It's no problem at all. You can remove the pump while doing sports, and attach it on again every hour or so, so you can inject the insulin you would have gotten in the hour it has been off, so your blood glucose won't rise due to a lack of insulin.
You can even swim with the infusion set stuck to you, as long as you take the pump off before (they are usually not watertight). :)

It's much better than shots, and much easier to control your diabetes. I never have trouble with the site coming off of my body, and I live in the desert where I sweat a lot in the summer! No issues there! I put my pump in my back pants pocket and tuck the tubing into the waist of my pants. If I wear a dress, I put it in my bra. All of them have clips too that you can attach to clothing without pockets.

I hate this infusion set. It easily comes out of its cradle when un winding and somedays it will make it useless. I'm considering only pumps that uses a separate device to push it in. This is why somedays I miss my old acchucheck pump because it never failed plunging into me..I currently have the out of business Animas Vibe
