- The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force demonstrates the capabilities of is ShinMaywa US-2 amphibious aircraft in a joint rescue exercise during Cope North 20, Feb. 25, 2020.
The ShinMaywa US-2 is a Japanese large STOL search and rescue amphibious aircraft designed for Air-Sea Rescue (ASR) work operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
Exercise Cope North 20 is an annual U.S. Pacific Air Forces joint and combined, trilateral field training exercise with participants from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, Japan Air Self-Defense Force, and Royal Australian Air Force conducted primarily at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.
This year marks the first time the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force is bringing a US-2 ShinMaywa amphibious aircraft to incorporate personnel recover missions.
2020年2月25日、グアム ：海上自衛隊のUS-2飛行艇によるコープ・ノース20共同救助演習中のデモンストレーション飛行。
コープ・ノース20演習は、主にグアム・アンダーセン空軍基地で行われる、米空軍、米海軍、米海兵隊、日本航空自衛隊、オーストラリア空軍による3ヶ国合同演習です。
今年は初めて海上自衛隊が新明和US-2水陸両用機を持ち込んで人員救助訓練が行われました。

加速が始まってから、マジで10秒程度で離陸するんですね。
これは凄いと思う。
離陸時の滑走短すぎてびっくりする！
日本と世界の海の安全（救難）のため、自衛隊の皆様の活動を応援します。
タイヤが地面から離れるときと、胴体が水面からはがされるように離陸するのを比べたら、水面からの方が離陸に力が必要そうに思うんだけど・・・。
日本はヘリ空母作る前に、飛行艇の母艦を作ったほうが広い海をカバーできそうな気がする。
ヘリからのソノブイ投下より、着水して敵潜を索敵したほうが効率的じゃないのだろうか。

I watched these on Okinawa, Japan at Naha Air Base. Neat plane and important mission.
I also saw one takeoff from MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan. This was several years ago. As i recall, it took lots of power to lift off. Really enjoyed the experience as aircraft enthusiast. For all viewers, once COVID-19 is over, visit Dayton, Ohio - the National Museum of the Air Force and...home of the Wright Brothers...there's much to visit and learn.

近いうちにジェット化するかもね。飛鳥等、実験結果があるので予算次第で日本の航空製造技術でなんとでもできる。プロペラがいい場合もある。もっと国際競争力を高める為に研究開発予算を組むべきだ。

昔も友軍機にやってたらしいですね（ジパング知識）

岩国基地配属のUS-2ですね。岩国に住んでいるのでよく見かけます。やっぱカッコいいですね！
最後の方で兜島が写ってるので岩国沖での要救護者訓練でしたね

自前でしっかりしたランディングギアを持っているので、「着陸」や「離陸」も出来ますよ。
水陸両用機ってヤツですね。
ランディングギアを持ってない飛行艇も、整備時や保管時は陸に上げなきゃならないので、ビーチングギアという取り外し式の車輪を取り付けて陸に上がります。

Unbelievable how quickly it takes off into the air !! It really wants to fly easy... a good problem to have...
It has a 5th turbine in the fuselage that provides boundary air over the wing. This is the most advanced aircraft of its type (amphibian) in the world at the moment, nothing else even comes close. Really worth checking out the Wikipedia page on it.
I think that might also have something to do with amphibs/flying boats in general. Being designed to overcome the drag from a water takeoff, taking off from land would be very easy in comparison.
Leave it to the Japanese to create something interesting eh.

2017年までは一つ型の古いオレンジ色の垂直尾翼が特徴のUS-1もいたけど、もう退役して見られなくなりました。でもまだ岩国基地の格納庫にて保管されてます
旅客機よりも静かにスムーズに離陸するんですね。離陸距離が本当に短い。世界に誇れる救難機です。素晴らしい！！
US-1、US-2の、短距離での離陸の、技術を利用して、STOLが開発された。その技術が、次の輸送機の開発につながる。→この、技術を積み重ねる技術は、日本の独特なものかもしれない。
It looks a lot like a Martin P5M Marlin with two additional engines. Great maritime patrol/search and rescue aircraft.
It is made by Shinmeiwa Industry which is the successor to Kawanishi Aircraft. Therefore, it can be called grandson of type 2 flying air boat. However, it's similar to P5M a little too.

I think there were a squadron of these station at Atsugi base. When we, Vr-52 and Vr-58, would detach out of there I would see them on the opposite side of the runway from where we parked our C-9s. Tony

Talk about STOL...look how quick that thing gets up and down. And here in the U.S., we don't have ANY seaplanes....but we do have billions of dollars worth of Navy ships that don't work at all.

You are correct What airplane would be modern Seamaster gets its engine from? Keep in mind US-2 flying boat is an H8K Emily flying boat airframe with C-130J engine. Choices are CFM Leap-x 1A from B737max A220 PW GTF GE9x B777-x TP400 A400M?

I'm from Indonesia, like Japan and America.
This seems like a really useful plane. I wonder if the US Navy or Coast Guard or possibly Forrestry Services has looked into purchasing a few? Nobody has really done flying boats in years. But they still filled a few really useful niches. This would make a phenomenal aerial water tanker/fire bomber.
The company that makes this (Shinmaywa) is a world leader, the roots of this go back many decades (1950's?). It is a very sophisticated aircraft, not many people realize that there is a 5th turbine in the fuselage that provides boundary air over the wing which gives it unparalleled STOL performance. The hull has been designed to perform in very rough sea. Although very pricey this aircraft should be in use worldwide. The company has been in negotiations to supply India for awhile now but it's been a on again off again thing going on. I totally agree with you that it could be a great air tanker for fighting forest fires, this was designed right into it as I understand.
I live in Los Angeles. I remember many many years ago there was an attempt to bring a foreign seaplane for fire fighting ( Russian Beriev B20 ? ) but can't because it must be FAA cert'd. Most fires started near the coast. We have several Super Scoopers leased from the Canadian for summer only; stationed just a few miles from me - Lake Puddingstone east of LA . May be Trump being a no nonsense president can issue an executive order to bypass FAA. BTW China has a new AG600.
Kiam Oey I believe the FAA does accept Japanese Certifications just as they largely do Europe with Airbus, etc. the FAA problems only occur from aircraft from nations that do not share a common framework with the US/FAA. The plane would still need FAA cert, but it wouldn’t be a start from scratch sort of thing.

The flying boat was the most incredible Maritime rescue aircraft in the history of our country 12000 Mi range 6,000 Mi range, and you could land and water, and if you were shot down over enemy territory during WWII they will still always send everything that got to find you and then you get rescued by the flying boat if it wasn't for them it's game over, in the Pacific we knew that we could rescue our Mariners when they were shot down and we knew when they were missing so now we know how to rescue them Maritime use of military technology is the greatest opportunity for all countries Japan has been Relentless remember they are our best friend they are our best friend forget about the fake news all this or the relations everything, Japan has been our best friend and they stuck with us they put everything into protecting the gift that they have from God

飛行艇は何処に、お披露目は結構派手でしたが
テイクオフが素人さんでも分かる位弱弱しい印象でした、
まー、いつものスペックを披露するハッタリ機の様です、
お蔵入り確実。
