    I like the rings very much. However, I understand that I have a lot to learn before attempting a project like this. I'm simply going to continue to watch for now. Thank you for teaching us all.

    Goldsmith here! You do a very good job for the equipment you have! Filming also!
    May I give you a tip when you work with bezels? Setting the stone is the VERY last step of juwellery making.
    So in folowing order when construction is finished you have: sanding, color metal, sanding again, polish and then setting stone.
    Depending on the look you want you can polish first before you color the metal.
    I hope this helps!

    Ludmila, I have a lot of rings with beautiful stones. They are professionally made. They all have a hole behind the stone. I assume that is to allow moisture to escape, and to aid in cleaning the ring. You might consider doing that, so that your rings stay just as beautiful into the future as the day you make it. It will save you extra silver clay if you cut the hole when the clay is still damp. Thank you again for the video! It is such a joy to see you make such beautiful jewelry!

      What I was taught in jewelry making classes was that the hole is generally to leave a little light behind a translucent stone and/or to decrease the amount of precious metal needed in any one piece. It IS a really good idea, particularly when using metal clay, which is even more expensive than sheet metal, and certainly it helps to show off the stones to best effect. And I suppose a ring could develop condensation inside a bezel, but I don’t believe that’s the primary reason a hole is usually left, and I’ve never had a problem with rings I have that don’t include a hole.

    Beautiful ring!! 🙌🏼
    I was wondering do you have any advice on setting bezel cups made with bezel wire to clay for nonfireable stones? Can you just solder it then set??

    • @amyradbill1836
      @amyradbill1836 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely solder to silver clay once it’s fully fired, BUT! If you’re working with fine silver bezel wire and fine silver clay, you can simply set the bezel to the unfired clay ring, and then fire them together to join them. If I were doing that, I’d use slip (clay paste) made with clay and lavender oil rather than water. The lavender oil slip helps fired clay (or non-clay fine silver elements) stick to the unfired, greenware clay. Bear in mind, I’m speaking from experience firing in a kiln-but I don’t see any reason why torch firing should be different (for *fine* silver clay, that is…but I’m not sure one can even fire the sterling clays with a torch, so maybe that’s an unnecessary caveat…). I hope that’s helpful!

    Hi,
    great video 👏🏼 thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏼
    I was wondering if you can use fine silver bezel (not made w metal clay) on a metal clay piece? And if you can do you have to make it a little bigger than fitting perfectly snug as in traditional soldering /metal smithing? Also can you just stick it in the metal clay before firing or would you do it after?
    Looking forward to your response.
    Thank you 🙏🏼
