    If i use the fine silver clay to make a pendant for example and then use the gold clay for inlays and such, could i use a small blow torch instead of a kiln?

    Hello, i bought from your website few years ago PMc3. I have couple of unopened packages and also some syringes. I wonder how long does it last good unopened. I bought them like 7 years ago. Thanks

      If the clay still feels pliable in the unopened package it is still good to use. If it's hard, the clay can be chopped up and rehydrated, bringing it back to being usable.

    Great comparison video! Is there a reason you're wearing gloves? Are you protecting your hands or the PMC? Or is it simply a personal preference?

    • @beatusqui
      @beatusqui 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wondering the same, maybe to keep fingerprints off.

    • @moonbeammimi
      @moonbeammimi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@beatusqui I've learned a lot about this over the past year. It's probably to protect the integrity of the PMC. I don't wear gloves, though I try to handle the clay as little as possible when it's wet. Fingerprints can be removed in the finishing process. 🤷‍♀️🌞

    Why is fine silver clay three times the price per gram of fine silver bullion?

    • @adamclark9123
      @adamclark9123 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It’s because it isn’t just raw silver, the manufacturing process to turn it into the PMC clay, as well as the research and development process to originally design these products costs money, the company also need to make profits - if you want to work with raw silver to process this into jewellery etc you need really expensive tools and materials - this is much cheaper to make into jewellery, as there are less demanding equipment needs

    Why so many different silver ones? What is the silver percentage of silver in the first three clays you mentioned before the 960 and sterling?

    Thank you I am new to using the metal clays, but I used polymer clay for a while and made a lot of neat things so the silver clay I can use on some of my rings and bracelets and earrings to make little accents. I have a question when using a torch how long do you use the torch on the clay, like when you use a torch on regular 9.25 silver Or find silver I know what to look forward to know when it’s gonna be a kneeled or when it’s going to go ahead and get into every little bar. So could you give me an idea of what I need to look at when I’m using a torch the fire this metal clay and I have the PMC 399.9 fine silver. Rio has so many wonderful videos and teachers. God bless and thank you for helping us

      Hello, our Jewelry Tech Team got back to us and they said that this www.riogrande.com/article?name=Welcome-To-PMC-IS is a great reference on working with PMC, there is a chart on page 10 that explains the color you are looking for and what is happening to the clay at different temperatures. Basically you want the metal to have an orange glow and hold it at that color for at least 1-5 minutes depending on the thickness of the piece. There is a max that you can torch fire and that is 25 grams and a max of 2 mm thick. Above that sintering might not happen throughout the piece. We hope this is helpul and thank you again for your support!

    I really truly want to get into this craft but I I have no idea where to start as far as tools and items that are necessary and workable from the beginning. I have watched this channel for quite a long time but the expense is out of control. Is there a market for items made like this?

    Great informative video!. I would love to get into making PMC rings, with delicate flowers on top. Which one do you recommend for torch firing only?, also can you combine the PMC sheets to make rolled roses, and place on top of a different type of PMC clay?. :-).

      Drilling and setting stones into fine silver should not be an issue. The fine silver is soft enough that you will not have any issues.

    So wait you fire this and its solid and pure? Any drawbacks from it vs working with regular metal?

    • @RioGrande1944
      @RioGrande1944  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, we spoke with our Tech Team and they said that is correct. Once you fire it, it stays solid and pure. PMC is metal suspended in a binder and when the binder burns away you are left with a solid piece of metal. The downside would be shrinkage. PMC has pretty high shrinkage, around 12%. This can be useful for highly detailed pieces that have to be smaller after firing, but shrinkage must be taken into consideration. We hope all this information is helpful to you and don't hesitate to ask any other questions!
