Well I am for sure one that has NOTHING but admiration for someone that has found and keeps any of these cars up and running. The first time I saw one of these I was 9 years old and it was in 1970 I just thought WOW a ENGINEER MASTERPIECE then I heard they were running them at NASCAR and that just SOLIDIFIED that thought in my mind! But never have had money or opportunity come together at the same time. So I am glad there are people that care about and for these cars and keep at lest one together for me when those two events come together for me to own one of these TIME CAPSULES! Thank you for your time, effort and allowing people like me to see them!

Love the car, my sister drove my Dad's Daytona to HS back in the 70s as I'm 6 yrs younger and was always jealous. Dad also had a 69 charger 500. He was an engineer at highland pk. I lost my dad last yr he would have really enjoyed seeing this video as I have. I just found some photos of his of winged cars lined up either at creative or Chrysler that are press photos. I'm an E body guy myself have three, one which I drove in HS and bought in 1980 and still own. Love the videos and glad to have found ya. Dad always said only original one...

Hey DH, my old man owned a ‘69 500 that I’m trying to track down. Dad owned it from ‘71-‘82. He bought it from the ex-racer Ray Alley. I located the guy he sold it to, who then sold it again up in Michigan in the mid 1980’s. The car was originally a silver on black Hemi automatic, stripe delete car. Dad got it dinged at a grocery store and after trying to match 1970’s silver, he broke down and painted it black. And if no one repaired the dash, it still has teeth marks on the passenger side where I was teething as a toddler. Hoping you have some information about your 500 or have heard the legend of the yahoo that color changed his Hemi Charger 500?

i would prime the engine then remove all the spark plugs and spray some lube in so you get some upper cylinder lube and slowly bar the engine over a few rotation before even using the starter. maybe a good thing to remove the valve covers too to make sure none of the valves are stuck open it will really suck having a struck valve and the piston slap the valve and bend it that's why it's best to bar the engine over before cranking it with the starter

In the early '80s, a friend and I went to a closed Chrysler dealership in Michigan to look at a Mopar collection. One of the cars was a yellow Superbird, 440, auto. It had something like a 2.74 rear end. It also had a trailer hitch. The woman who owned the car originally used it to tow her boat.

I like your rebuild not replace approach to parts and pieces that must be brought up to standard. We in the Mopar community are so fortunate this car landed with such an insightful car collector. Great great story & video. Congratulations on a magnificent piece of history. Great job on the interior too. That said I would also do a deep cleaning with a cleaner preservative. I would also fix the rust on the lower part of the rear window and what I thought was rust under the rear deck lid, the edge closest to the rear window. That just my 2 cents worth since it didn’t have rust from the factory. Clay bar the finish, buff it out and then do the body. The paint can be matched for fade so it looks perfect should it have faded a bit. Congrats again!

Of course wash it. Or rather, clean it thoroughly. But don't use water - wipe down with lots of damp micro-fibre cloths, including inside all the door jambs and turret curves etc. And even give it a polish, where the paint still is. Clean the glass as well as possible inside and out - it will look exceptional, even with the areas of paint deterioration. Keeping the dust on is just a touch silly.

Cool car! Should've left the headers on it, if you're going to leave the racing decals on it, then I would've left them on. Kinda goes with the whole look of the car. Awesome that you saved it, they are beautiful cars!

Answers to questions: they made 503 daytonas and 1920 superbirds per best estimates. Yes i found the build (broadcast) sheet under front carpet. Yes i did get confused on a couple of things-give me a little break im almost 70. Yes, some hemi daytonas had drum brakes. Yes i do drive these cars, future videos might address my trip to alaska ( google alaska highway superbird) or key west, or mobile. Most importantly, thanks for the positive comments.

Bob, you got a free pass from me, when you said 'Road Runner Daytona', and the thing about the hoods,,, because sight unseen, you gave me a shirt with your cars on it, just based on my friend telling you about my 70 SuperBird. We have yet to meet, but clearly, we aught to. You have a fantastic collection and I am humble you gave me the shirt.
      Take care, Doctor Dodge here.

Wipe the car down with a mitt. Wipe the undercarriage off with a mitt. I'm sure you have pics of the condition as you found it. The psychosis around "barn find" has run it's course - no need to save the dust. Be a normal good steward.

@@dooddoodie2362 Hello Chet .. or is it Herb? I think the o/p was suggesting a light dust off... Not a full muscle grind in with partial sandpaper. See what he said ... "mitt" .. like a dusting mitt? I'm picturing you screaming at the computer screen while cussing and spilling your Hot Pocket .. Lol .. I think most enthusiast get the need for delicacy on this rare car .. calm down.

Exactly, everyone's acting like a bunch of women over this, wash it off and take it out front and burn the tires off the thing, they didn't build these cars to look at them.
I can't stand when people priss about over American muscle like some snotty European fussing over a Ferrari, those are cars that are meant to look at, these are cars that are meant to RUN!!!
If you want to invest in something you're never gonna touch just for the sake of it increasing in value then get into collecting stamps or something.

Not really, It wasn't driven during the winters, we had the Daytona from 72 through 2020. It was stored the whole time. It moved to Southlake Texas in 1979, was stored in our garage until Bob adopted it in 2020. It had 39735 miles on the clock. It made a couple trips to Canada in 1974 and 1975. On one of those trips we ran it up to 140 on I-75 in the UP of Michigan. Would have run it all the way out had there not been a MI State Patrolman coming from behind. Had a chase car following us that radioed his approach so we let her coast. When we were down to around 100 he passed us. Never tried it again. We had three Hemi's at the time, 68 RR, 69 Daytona and a 70 Hemi Cuda 4-spd. The Daytona was by far the best runner of the three; the Cuda sucked, sold it in 75. Wish now we still had it. It ended up totaled, rolled up into a ball. A friend saw it in a local junk yard.
Bob's Hemi Daytona is the Rarest Hemi Daytona in the world. It's 100% original, never wrecked or repainted, engine, tranny and rear are original.

Thanks again Bob for the informative tour of your prized possession! You are so lucky, but like I've said, it appears you've worked hard for that luck. Do you have a NASCAR version of a Superbird? That is what I'll be modeling my clone after. Please keep making the great videos!

Hi Chris. Right now I do not have a Nascar raced Bird. My Alpine white Bird, that we will feature in the next video sets was raced at Daytona, but not in a Nascar race. I appreciate your suggestion though, and have tried to get the 1 or 2 Nascar Birds out there, without success. Maybe soon!
