The way April was treated by the majority of the characters always made me so uncomfortable. Like from the beginning they bullied her so mercilessly for no reason. Alex, Jackson, Cristina, and Lexie made fun of her for being a virgin, Lexie treated her like crap for having a harmless crush on Derek and because Meredith was telling her things, Cristina told her she would never be Chief Resident and made fun of her with Teddy (I know Cristina was trying to distract Teddy from what happened to Henry, but it's still cruel to make fun of someone like that, she literally could have chosen any other subject as a distraction), Callie told her to change her voice, nobody listened to her when she was Chief Resident, Meredith and Cristina laughed in her face when April gave Meredith an order, Alex made fun of her voice multiple times, told her "this is why you have no friends", and accused her of "sleeping her way to the top" for being nice to Stark (kind of hypocritical when Alex lied about having one testicle to get into the intern program and he slept with Addison when he was an intern), and then yelled at her in the on-call room when she was trying to tell him to slow down because it was her first time. And let's not forget when Meredith got herself suspended and Bailey gave April the job of Chief of General, and everyone turned on her when all she did was take a job (and it wasn't her fault that Bailey suspended Meredith), Maggie kept treating her like crap for "turning against Richard", even Jackson accused her of being a job stealer (what a way to speak of the mother of your child), and even Nathan and Arizona refused to sit with her at lunch... like damn, I'm probably forgetting things but it's so twisted to me how she was treated and that NOBODY ever apologized for treating her like crap. Like I get that it's a teaching hospital and there's competition, but bullying someone because of their voice and for being nice is horrible, tbh April had reasons to file a complaint against any of them... I think the only characters who never mocked her were Owen, Derek, Tom, Amelia, DeLuca, Levi, and the other interns. I wish George and Izzie had never died/left, they probably could have been friends with April. Sorry for the long rant, I just needed to get it out. Amazing video!!
This is also the reason why I think it would have been better for April to leave Grey Solan for good to go no contact with Jackson and the rest of them. I was once a Jackson and April Shipper, but no more because I saw all the abuse that Jackson did to April and how he was never really on her side.

He was there when they lost Samuel and I thought she was wrong leaving the way she did, so I understand his reaction. When Harriet was born things changed and after she almost died he got his wake-up call, but it was too late. Things came full circle for both of them, but the way they got rid of her was horrible.

Sarah Drew was not fired. They decided to end her character's story like they did at the same time with Arizona's and then at 17th season with Jackson's. 20th seasons (future 21) of the same show is hard to keep. So much so that the protagonist of the series has her story being told but appearing on the screen in perhaps 4 or 5 episodes in a very short total of minutes. Did you know that Justin Chambers (who played Karev) spent part of his vacation in a rehabilitation center? (He hated that everywhere he went, he was recognized and every request for photos, autographs, etc. involved and affected the family. He himself asked to leave the series, if you notice from the 15th to the 16th series Karev was "disappearing".
I’ve always rooted for April. She’s the underdog who isn’t supposed to make it, but hangs on and pushes through against all odds. She can be annoying but at the same time she’s badass. This was a beautiful tribute. One scene where I feel she grew into herself was at her bridal shower where she declares to her sisters “Stop talking to me like no man has ever found me attractive, and stop calling me Ducky. I’m a freakin trauma surgeon. I’m a swan”
One thing I really wish the writers did when April lost her baby was to have a moment of support from Amelia. Nobody could’ve understood how she felt more in that moment then Amelia and I think there also could’ve been a cute little friendship there.

Amelia orchestrated the entire wave of support in the chapel. She may have been busy, or perhaps unable to speak directly, but Amelia's response was perfect.

And why pick on April and be mean to her? Maggie "I have patients to take care" would like to see Meredith's patients without care? What if somehow Arizona covered Neonatal surgery and Peds and Alex covered General? Oh... no, no one was going to mess with him because they could almost lose their sight; or if Owen leaves April in charge of Trauma and takes over? Oh, no... nobody was going to mess with Major Hunt. I hated everyone! April has done so much and received so little. Never slept with anyone for her own benefit, they made fun of her and never respected her authority, Bailey telling Catherine (after April returned from the Army) that she never thought she would like her, never had close relationships with Attending during her residency (the closest was clearly Owen but he was also chief at the time and being a teacher and chief it's like having half of a teacher, even though she knew what she had to do but it's not the same to have a teacher as close as the others had).
i honestly wish she even skyrocketed more considering how much she was bullied...even in her greatest times she was described as great, but not a mer, great but owen is still head of surgery, great but this, great but that

You gonna leave out the part when April and Jackson lost a child and then April just traveled to another country and left Jackson alone to deal with that grief? A lot of married couples dissolve due to a child's death. This is a HUGE reason why April was NOT blameless at all.

Owen told her what it was like and she was excited. The problem is actually Jackson. He has abandonment issues, which is a real psychological disorder. If you watched the episode where April came back after her second tour as a surgeon in the Army, what did you see? Arizona asked what time does April get in? Callie asked what time is the thing? Owen asked what time will April be back, isn't there a thing? Absolutely no one found what she did as wrong or abandoning Jackson, only Jackson felt that way, and April didn't know he felt that way. What a shit husband, the absolute worst! Hey your light is back, so I'm going to just snuff it out again. It's then that I hated him. He didn't like her reaction to the pregnancy scare and dumped her because why? Were his feelings hurt? Did he really want to start a family with her then? Did he really propose pregnancy scare or not, was it that he wanted to marry her? We don't know because he just walked away because he didn't like April's relief of not being pregnant and not having to marry someone because of a child? That's crazy! He screwed over every girlfriend he's had and he moves on like that person never meant a damn thing to him. From April to Stephanie, Stephanie to April, divorced April and started dating, learns of April's 2nd pregnancy and now it's move in with me and stay, sleeps with April in Montana, immediately moves on to Maggie, from Maggie to Vic very quickly, from Vic to Jo. And people really believe April is at fault? The man is incapable of being alone because he has abandonment issues. All those women deserved better than Mr. Incapable Of Being Alone Avery!
I totally agree with you!! What kind of love towards April was that. I liked what you said because it is true. He told her he was happy she found that light, that spark again, but since I don’t like that fact that you have grown without me. I’m going to give you an ultimatum and put out that light again. He was nothing but a spoiled brat. He was disloyal to her. No matter what crap happened between them April was always loyal to Jackson and had his back defending him against those that questioned his character. However, he always sided with others against her whenever he was having a hissy fit in their relationship. I wanted to be writer on that show so badly to change some of the narrative about April.
These videos are absolutely brilliant. I first stumbled across Yang's video and fell in love with the full understanding and pain of Blake and how it showed the growth of Mer during S12. Waiting patiently for the next video to come! :)
