BTW, The Sami used to be called the Lapps, and their traditional lands were called Lapland. Traditionally, they are nomadic reindeer herders. They cover the extreme north of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and a part of Russia.
Mari Boine is a GIANT in Norwegian music inheritage - her music comes from Sapmi - meaning the sami people ( ther culture and languange is totaly different from the norwegian/ swedish mm. Theyr lifes is cerluling around the Reindeers and they are nomads- have lived in Sapmi ( nothern part of Norway, Sweden, Finnland and Russia) for thousands of years
The way you initially pronounced "Amalie" was quite close! 😊 She would respond positively to that. As you say it is a very difficult song style, especially for someone who is not Sami, to master. I have never heard Aurora attempt this before, but we know she has a knack for incorporating indigenous song styles. Sami joik is a deeply rooted aspect of Sami culture. The Sami people are indigenous people (similar to the Inuits) of Northern Norway, Sweden, and Finland. They herd reindeer across vast landscapes, wear colorful, thick clothing, and live in tent-like structures while herding. The essence of joik is connected to the sounds of nature, animals, and spirit animals; it was originally performed in natural settings rather than on a stage. Since the early 1980s, Mari Boine has gained worldwide recognition for incorporating joik into modern soundscapes. She has also collaborated with Peter Gabriel on his world music projects. I'm looking forward to your vlog from the Aurora concert! 😁
Haha, now you know what Joik singing is, Ashlena. I've been a long time fan of her and even visited Sami land to learn a bit more about her culture. It spans from Norway via Sweden to Finland, from the Crystal clear Waters of the North Sea to the Russian border. The rendeers are running freely, so you have to drive very carefully. The midget are as big as hands and they are not humming but snaring when they fly. Thank you for listening to [má-ri bói-na].
Very tribal, love vocalizing, Aurora does it so well. Those high whistle notes blew me away everytime I hear them. Thanks for a great two for Tuesday ❤e
Hi Ahlena 👋, great reaction ,Aurora never fails to deliver a great performance. I notice that you have the Jacob Collier collab on your poll , can't wait for your reaction to that one ....😅❤
Really cool performance, some of the techniques reminds me a little of Eivor. I’m seeing Aurora in a couple weeks and I cannot wait! I took the day off from work too lol.
happy aurora tuesday morning. i hope that aurora will do her own yoiks. i really like her cover but i also liked the original ever since, a protest song. thank you for your reaction.
The world is in a mess at the moment with conflicts everywhere. I believe the resurgence in music featuring peace ,harmony ,love is no coincidence. We are reliving the late 1960's early 70's of very similar events like the Cold War, Vietnam etc and countries protesting against governments everywhere. Even the fashion of today has swung to bright colourful attire and flares are back with the younger crowd, i'm old enough to remember it 1st time round never thought id see it again lol. So i think the music industry and independent artists are noticing this and are coming to the fore, interesting times and lets hope a little peace comes quickly around certain hot spots of the globe 💗
If I don't mistake, Mari Boine came in Canada to study and connect with the Innu on throat singning, as the Sami is (kinda with all respect) one of the native culture in Norway and what was so interesting is that some langage were similar and the thraoth singning was basecely the same, as the north pepole were not that far from each other. ( I could totaly mistake with an other Norvergian artist, sorry. I look deeper for that)
you realy check out Mari Boine, she is magic. and the same as Aurora, you need to watch her live performances. Her song "eagel brother" from Oslo opera house is my favorite: th-cam.com/video/kprl0CECykA/w-d-xo.html

I once attended a festival of indigenous American music and it sounded similar to this. I'm very interested in indigenous music of different cultures.

The e at the end of Boine is not a scilent e. So it's BoinE. Great reaction again. Thank you. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.

I love this traditional singing. We know this from many songs of her. These are her roots. It is so much cooler than our German Bavarian yodeling 😜

Sami people are the norwegian indigenous people.
Yes, but the Sami people live in the north of Scandinavia; Norway, Sweden (and Finland).
...and on the Kola peninsula (Russia).
