    It's really "quick and easy" when you have a easy background and it's already pre-selected.

    • @IRedpunk
      @IRedpunk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Aye it’s far more easier with a plain background, but with an actual background it’s far more complex

  • @deejbyrd

    I've been using Photoshop for close to 20 years and never bothered how to properly cut out hair, because I never really needed it like I did til today. You just made today's project at work possible for me and in a timely manner to boot!
    To the complainers that say it's a bad example because it's dark hair on white background --- the same concepts are going to apply, you just might have to take extra steps in masking certain areas or additional work to get your contrast right. Besides, a good cutout means starting with the right photo and not all photos are going to work well. That's just life. Pick one that works.

    These tutorial troll me pretty hard. I've yet to see one where the background is NOT a solid colour. Solid colour BG's are relatively easy. I want to see what people do for more complex back grounds.

    This is exactly what I needed. I work with a lot of stock photos like this and was having a difficult time getting the perfect masking on hair. And ignore the negative comments below. You showing how to use channels for masking just gives the designer another tool to use to achieve that perfect selection. Thanks for the tip!

    I've seen many vids that use this masking method, but what you did by adding a new layer which samples from below and using clone stamp to cover the "halo" was brilliant. Thanks!

    I agree with one comment below. Doing a cut out from an almost pure white background it´s one of the easiest thing to do, and more with that deep black hair. Bad example, sorry.

      agree

    • @correiodozac
      @correiodozac 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      And it's not fast. For white background select and mask or refine edge is much faster.

      You need to type in specifics for that kind of tutorial. Specifically videos that target cutting out hair from busy backgrounds.

      Bad Example.. i agree

    • @MarkBailey1972
      @MarkBailey1972 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think he just wanted to give the basis of how to do it. Using a busy background for this tutorial would require a lot of detailed instructions that wouldn't work well with a tutorial. I used his method with a image that had a busy background busy background and just added on what I already knew and it worked out fine. Some of the things he mentioned I would have never thought of trying before.

    I loved it. The last part, with the clone stamp tool, was the cherry on the top. I already had a few ways to mask hair with good results, but it never occurred to me that I could use the clone stamp like that there. Thanks a lot, kind fella!

    Thanks so much for this tutorial. Seen many tutorials from basic to advanced but for beginners like me you explain the small but important details, Eg Brush tool,Size, hardness etc. The important part for the finish. where other tutorials don't and hair looks smudged when painted. SO thanks for this great tutorial. A*****

    I've been trying to learn a technique for this forever, have tried many tutorials that never worked. THIS one worked! thank you! The only thing I'm finding is my background, instead of being white/clear, has a grey tone to it, which gets darker the lower down on the photo you go. I can't figure out how to remove that so I have a clear/transparent background (I'm very novice).

  • @MyMomDrank

    I also find that combining techniques: this channel selection method, and then the typical "select and mask" method on a duplicate layer have also served me well.

Learnt a new method for future though, thanks!
