@joy-to7dx We use Coronas, Heinekens, Michelob Ultra, or any type of malt liquor beer. We really don't have a preference, as long as it is some type of beer going into the mixture.
The reason we steam is you get the fresh clean sweet crab taste. The boiled crabs have the flavors of the ingredients in the pot. It’s preference not policy.
@@lrac_1 I am from Maryland and spent some time in New Orleans. I like them both ways, Meat is not soggy if you cook quality crabs, steamed or boiled. Light crabs will have a lot of juice trapped in shell either way, but its still good.

Looks good. Being a Marylander, the seasoning on top (old Bay0 permeates into the crab meat and steaming intensifies the taste. I love crabs in general so I would eat your preparation too and ask for some old bay on the side.
For people saying ol bay is horrible have to understand that when Maryland people say ol bay its not necessarily the brand that is found in the stores. Most crabhouses or vendors have their own blend of seasoning called "ol bay" similar but different and better than the stuff you by in the can.
I had a homie from Louisiana do a crab boil and that’s the only way I’ll take it. You right about it being therapeutic- you don’t need the tools at all. Much love from NC 🤘🏽
Hey Bro, Floridian here, and it's boiled all the way. I'm with you on how can the seasoning get into the crab shell by dropping seasoning on top of the crab. Nothing against the Maryland crowd cuz If I was in Maryland I would eat them just as well. My dad would put chicken wings or legs (or both) in the pot because he was allergic to crabs. That chicken in all that seasoning is so good. He also would put sausage eggs, and corn in the pot. For a guy who could not eat crabs, he sure could cook them. I cook mine the same way today. Great video my man as always.
Actually in Maryland when we steam crabs the seasoning seeps into the meat via steam. We steam in light beer and JO seasoning and is all you actually need for flavor. We don't have time to add all that unnecessary seasoning. And I've had the boiled style before...it changes the texture of the meat to what we call meally(soggy). But to each its own
I am from Baltimore Maryland & I prefer to steam them, but that way looks pretty tasty too & I will eat them any kind of way lol 😋 Let’s Go Ravens ! & How Bout Them O’s ! 💜🖤💜🖤💜🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡 ✌🏾👊🏾
Love the way you showed us how to do a proper boil as well as how to break a crab down. I made sure to save that video for future references. I'm embarrassed to say that I was born and raised in Louisiana, but never ate crabs or when to a crab orawfish boil until I was almost a young adult. I moved to Europe for 4 years soon afterward, so I definitely didn't get any Cajun food in Germany. I moved to AZ, then to OK, which is where I've remained for the last 30 years. Let me be the first to tell you that these eople don't know the firstvthing about Creole or Cajun cooking, so I had to start from scratch. It's taken a few years as well as a few tweaks to perfect my dishes which are loved by most. I'm sure there's someone out there or a lotvofvsomeones in Louisiana that would bring me back down to size, but I honestly haven't met anyone who doesn't like my Cajun food. Honestly, I think it's because Cajun and Creole cooking is so flavorful. We love seasonings and to be able to taste it all. I'd love to go back to Louisiana and experienced all of the flavors I missed as a kid growing up there. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to watching more of the videos you make.
We steam crabs in Baltimore MD. and they still be just as juicy as boiling them. Iv been to Houston where they boil them and the only thing you can get out of it are the different flavors or spices they serve them up.
Just use some of the boil liquid from the last cook to fill a plastic tub and freeze it, than next boil, use it to cool down your liquid with it. Another tip is to use the the top crab shell like a ramekin to grill your oysters in. Gets all those flavors from the inside shell cookin with those oysters. Oh yeah.
th-cam.com/video/2s3S745m1AA/w-d-xo.html Save the encrusted seasoning top shell, retain the mustard if desired, pick all leg segments. Occasionally dip a morsel into apple cider vinegar then touch the encrusted seasoning for a blend of flavors. Had a crabhouse make Maryland crab soup on Monday from the weekend AYCE inventory. You can also put broccoli in a food safe mesh bag and drop in the water when crabs are almost done it is so delicious with that seasoning but take it out when your desired tendency is met. I boils and also add some white vinegar to my water
I've been buying , steaming & eating Jumbo or #1 blue crabs in SW Florida for about 10 years. Still haven't mastered removing the body meat as quickly as you. Nice going. I'll have to keep replaying your video..

Who in Philly boils their crabs? I'm in PA near the MD line. We steam them MD style. I can't even fathom that somewhere in PA boils over steam. I'm being dead honest. Where is this place? I must see. I can't fathom that anyone from this area actually chooses boiled over steamed or that the place that offers it would even stay in business. What's it called. I'm seriously curious. For one, I gotta try. I've been to NOLA and had them boiled. They're ok. But I wanna try this famous Philly boil you speak of. Or do you just boil them at home? Where does Philly catch their blue crab? Can't be from Philly waters. Do they get shipped from MD? I'm so confused by this whole statement. Blue crab are in MD and Virginia waters. Maybe Delaware and even NC, but Philly or even Jersey blue crab? My mind is blown. I gotta see this 😂😂😂😂
Hi I am not a subscriber, but I ran into you by just searching, I love the way you cook your crabs, no butter for me, but the very next time I cook crabs I will certainly buy some oranges for more flavor, I wished I live near by lol, I am from Los Angeles, good luck to you and continue to cook those good crabs!
Thank you for the very detailed video! Blue crab is an invasive species here in Italy, it was not really common before so me nor my relatives have any idea on how to cook it. Will try it out!
I love blue crabs! I steam mine in beer (no water), old bay, crushed peppers and apple cider vinegar........delicious. I would definitely try it your way, but must clean the skin of the vegetables and fruit first
There is no better sanitizer than boiling water. Im curious as to what would be the advantage to cleaning the fruit and veggies that has no visible dirt on it?
@CoCoFantastique Visible dirt or not, the fruits and veggies were packaged in a factory, shipped by trailer, stored in the market's warehouse/ supermarket until purchased by consumer........yes they should be washed! Boiling the water doesn't matter in this case, because all the dirt is being consumed in the crab boil. It's not like he cleaned them off with boiling water

Maryland style, the seasoning ontop,
gets on your fingers,
which transfers to the meat as you pick the crab.
