  • The Oneida Nation reservation is located in parts of Brown and Outagamie Counties. While people may enter the reservation without even realizing it, from the air, it’s hard to miss; with turtle shaped round-a-bouts and a turtle shaped school - in honor of one of the Nation’s clans.
But to truly understand the Oneida people, one needs to know their history. The tribe originated in upstate New York; but European settlers eventually pushed them out of the area, effectively splitting the Nation into three factions: one in New York, one in Canada, and one in Wisconsin.
Wisconsinites can learn more about the rich Oneida history, traditions, artifacts, language and customs when they visit the Oneida Museum in De Pere, which opened its doors in 1979 and houses over 8,000 artifacts within their permanent collection.
