  • By the rapids of the Red River, Kimberly Vele tells of Mohican life in the Hudson Valley of New York before their move to Stockbridge, Massachusetts, followed by their forced removal to Indiana where they joined with the Munsee tribe before their final relocation to Wisconsin. James Fenimore Cooper was incorrect in predicting the demise of the Mohican people.

I am part Native American from my mothers side. Her grandfather was born in Goshen vermont. I finally became curious. So my educated guess is that I am descended from Mahicans on my Moms side. She said we were Iroquoi and Algonquin. So, I’m enjoying learning about a part of my ancestry. The other part of my ancestry is English, Scottish, Irish, and Norwegian. On my moms side, the English married the native Americans.

My blood family of this tribe banded the stockbridge and muncee to because they were a last of a mohican tribe. Their names were john littleman and Jacob David's from kaukauna. Headless horsemans. Jacob married jerusha littleman. New York yes 6 nation band. Jacobs nickname was JACOB THE JUST. We lived in kaukauna and did business with grignon family helping build the grignon home from old wood. My great great grandma was born on the land aupomot severed his leg on in kaukauna. She was born in a log house and was kaukauna oldest living stockbridge resident. John littleman I believe became a principal chief of the stockbridge in kaukauna many years ago. We asked for 4 barrels of rum not 2 originally. I have a kaukauna book from 1952. I am also blood related to electa quinney. They had 2 princesses left Henrietta and harriet quinney 1 died at 1 month and 1 wk old in new york before relocating here in kaukauna after. Which graves were .she on Brill red ect and disturbed sadly and majorly. My family were also beaulieu. Paul Hudon beaulieu was a cousin of ours Paul reubon beaulieu. They offered us land. And cheated us all we asked for were 4 barrels of rum. N miscellaneous items. And made it uncomfortable for us so we got removed. Along with grignon family some members left to green bay

I am related to anna marie senso. Who's home old and gone now was located on historically native rich land history 1711 Cleveland ave. Overlooking konkapot trail n red hills landfill. And original native settlers ppl dont know much about ojibwa and menomonee natives by konkapot in the 1600 to 1700. And not much is known about them. Maybe all the burial mounds found in kaukauna disturbed were them? Kinda makes sense. But why were our natives buried on grignon property? Were we killed? Or were we protected from being disturbed from beyond by the grignon home and other buildings being built on sacred lands for our protection? Aupomot also made words with my family in the algonkian language last of mohican dictionary. My favorite is MNOTY

Family littlemans of mine and davids side were majorly involved in political affairs government wise he was considered a sachem between all ppls. 1 was a peacemaker. Not a martyr for self gratification. He was pure and good. Helped all.

Yes last of mohican. Only elders or certain natives may not know about Jacob the just. I am sad we were taken for for our land. And in kind did not use war till we were saying enough is enough. Kaukauna is so beautiful n it's wrong to be killed or taken advantage of for land. Land is spiritual. Also MAKES ME SAD ANYBODY WOULD MURDER A FELLOW NATIVE ON SUCH NATIVE LAND RICH IN HISTORY. 1996 IN KAUKAUNA JAMES LAMONT THOMPSON MURDERED ALEXANDER SCHAEFFER EXCUSE ME IF I SPELL LAST NAME INCORRECT. REST ALEXANDERS SOUL.

You resemble my mother. So, I know she came from the Mahican tribe on her mother’s side. In her family, the English married the natives. Her mom was born in Goshen Vermont. It’s nice to learn about the Native American branch of my family.❤❤❤

A dignified People. Can't help wondering what they think of The Last of the Mohicans, the original book and the different movie versions, all of which idealize the more noble aspects of their history and culture.

17.00 I forgot who it was that said "history is always written down by the victors". It was certainly true in this case and was still being done in Hollywood well into the 60's! I'm a 40yr old English woman who grew up believing Calamity Jane was real!

I've Been to Uncas leap. 65 foot jump. Who was chasing Uncas & How Did he Die ? Remember It takes a Sagamore to Catch a Sagamore. Who was the Sagamore tracking Uncas ? I often wondered this. Along with the Two Men With the Sagamore. Who were these men. Did Uncas die from the fall ? Or just break his leg on the rocks below ? So many questions & so few answers. Uncas almost made the jump however he slipped & fell to the rock below & broke his leg. One leg. Maybe he Drown.
