Always love seeing your house and your stuff. Thanks for sharing, Mazzy. Super interesting!
Moved from SF to Seattle…two cool cities! Nice system without all the audiophile craziness. Good for you….enjoy!!!!
Thanks for sharing your system. It reflects your appreciation of visual aesthetics as well as good sound to share with friends.
My pleasure!✌🏼
I’ll buy the Hana from you 😊
Looks great Mazzy.
As a fellow Planar 8 user, I definitely recommend Rega's P8 wall bracket, it makes a positive difference to the sound.
Happy listening.
100% agree about aesthetics and livable/comfortable space.
Tremendous film noir, shades of white, Grey, black - all colors.
Never apologize for seeking to enjoy your music more than your system. Cool set up. man. Nice video.
Love the black and white! I watch old tv shows in black and white like 77 Sunset Strip and Hawaiian Eye! Love your 2024 system setup and I just spent around 8 grand updating my old system. I picked up Mofi's Sourcepoint 10 speakers, Rega's Elex MK4 Integrated stereo amplifier, and the Planar P3, with Ortofon Blue cartridge. I'm so happy, I'm like you, I don't need baffling, acoustic panels on the walls, etc., etc. I love the music, as you often say! Go from Fusion Jazz to Classic Rock, then back to Lee Morgan, Chet Baker, and mainstream/straight ahead jazz. Thanks for sharing!
Love that you listen to CDs when in the office. I feel like every place we spend time needs to have some form of turntable or deck and some form of physical media to choose from in that setting. I feel like the living space is vinyl but the work space is CDs and Cassettes
Excellent video Mazzy! You made a good valid point. You want to enjoy music where you live! In my case, I have a nice vintage/current setup in both my home and office (off site).
It´s a good Style! I love it! I hear with B&W 702 Signature. Greetings from Cologne/Germany!
Your cabinet is beautiful and your hi-fi is very nice. If you are happy, that’s all that matters.
Very nice! So happy to hear your opinion on just sitting back with 2-channel analog :)
I just like playing the music, perfect quote.
Very nice, Mazzy. The black and white was a nice touch! I must say you pour a damn fine martini and REGA for the win. ❤🔥🥰
Cheers 🍸🫒
Late to the party, I’ve been ill. Loved the guided tour Mazzy-live the black and white, nice touch. The haters can get lost. Envious of the Hegel!🙏🏻🎧
Thank you !
Your setup looks great! I also have my system in my open living room area so I can play music and have guests over to listen Don’t want a listening room secluded downstairs or upstairs!! Your system is very nice!
I had a dedicated music room in my house but, it was just too small. I moved my stereo into my living room and now we have a great space to listen to my music. Like you said, if it works for you, then that's all that matters. Love your system 😊
Love the black & white cinema video Mazzy you made some amazing upgrades Mazzy especially the Rega p8 and cartridge is killer . I’ve had my P6 for 3 years I’ve been happy with Rega awesome brand thanks for sharing .
Thanks Lovell. It shows the gear nicely in think😎
Loved this video! Your system(s) are so nice! Very well worth it at the end of the day! Cheers and enjoy😎
Great video. I Love all your gear. I enjoy my gear as well but am also excited that my future will definitely include upgrades as my speakers and cables are knocking on the ‘time to change’ timeframe! Have a great weekend Mazzy!
Thanks for sharing your fabulous sound equipment Mazzy.
My pleasure!✌🏼
Thanks for sharing your system with us Mazzy! Fellow P10 with Umami Blue owner, and I had the same break in experience with the cart. I also put my table on isolation and it definitely helped! I have a walkthrough of my setup, you’re welcome to it, otherwise keep it real and keep it monochrome! 😊
Right on brother.. great video.. we have different gear but the same mindset with regard to room setup and upgrades..
Right on
Some of us go overboard with our listening environments. If it works for you, then that is the best setup. I am lucky to have a dedicated audio room, though I still have a TV mounted between my speakers as I sometimes watch movies in the room. I have two amps, my vintage Luxman R-115 (which I love the sound for music) and a Marantz AVR (also sounds great once I ran the room correction). I also have a dedicated home theater room with surround sound (Marantz AVR is in that room as well). Then I have my Cambridge Audio stack at work. The work room has a terrible layout but my listening position is in the sweet spot. Music all day long for me no matter where I am.
Sound cool
I like black & white footage. I was a Public Information Officer in the Army. All I shot was35mm black & white w/an Asahi Pentax SLR. Got many great pics. Black & white can enhance a certain mood or era in time.
Cool and yeah. Exactly the mood
Hi Mazzy,
Try a beautiful old silk drape covered stylishly over your tv. Try it, it really can improve things in the imaging department Plus it can look like a stage in the middle of your music bliss.
Enjoy your well chosen system in your beautiful space.
Tony
My system is nothing to brag about but happy with it. A Fisher receiver, Sony tape deck and speakers and a Teac turntable I got from a local record store call Zia records in Phoenix, Az. It suits me for right now. I do like your setup. 😊
And lately been going to thrift stores and sometimes I get records from my boss, latest one is Monster by Steppenwolf.
A fine presentation. Home is where HiFi is or vv. Many thanks for sharing and for the down to earth elevator stairs. Hearty greetings!
That Neu! boxed set though!!
Hi, Mazzy! Love the black and white. Congratulations on your home and your music.
Very nice!
Fellow RP8 owner here! Great turntable, and a great video displaying your gear setup!
The Naia is the way to go.
Of course at 12k plus. I’ll take a promo version 😎🤠
Looks inviting. :) I too like to have my music system where there is bright sunshine through the windows and high ceilings. We have the theater in the basement for movie viewing.
I have been listening to my B&W Nautilus 5 speakers for over 20 years and they still sound glorious. joe
Nice updates to the system Mazz - you’ve got great taste! Aesthetics matter!
Those B & W are very crystal clear and can be on the brighter side, but those Hegel amps are very strong in the mid range and mid bass and the highs are neutral, so I think they make a very good match😎👌
Great video, ,thanks for sharing. I've made some similar purchases over the years. Current system: Rega P8, Hana SL, Rega Aria, Rega Elex-R Amp, Rega Apollo CD, Wharfedale Linton 85th Speakers.
Very nice ✌🏼
Your system is very similar to mine…I have a set of BW 805d, they were too bright with my old Krell integrated, went to the Hegel H300 and it was the perfect match, really warmed up the music, also went with the Rega P10, funny was considering Hana but ended up with a Rega Apheta 3 for ease of setup, really enjoy your videos, thanks Mazzy.
Great video Mazzy. Very sincere and honest.
Congratulations a
beautiful living space Mazzy.
I totally agree you have to work with the layout of your home.
I too have two systems.
One is in its own designated room.
My second is in an open space similar to yours.
Open plan kitchen, living room area.A live room.
I love both listening areas & enjoy the contrast .
All fabulous upgrades of your gear Mazzy.
Well thought out and successful acquisitions for sure.
Enjoy the music and the space in which you listen .
✊
Thanks so much! ✌🏼⭐️
I think your area looks great, whatever works, nice system
Damn you look good in black and white! I love it.
Norm! Mazzy! You have no need to apologize for anything regarding your stereo gear and/or set up. It’s your house! It’s a system most of us would kill for. You don’t have justify any part of your rig and how you listen to your music. I love the fact that you still have your CD’s and play them and love them. We are close enough in age where we went all in on CD’s in the late 80’s 90’s & 00’s. I sold a bunch of records, nowhere near what you had I had maybe 3000. Now I’m back up to 700 LP’s. and I fell back in love with the format…but I still love and listen to my CD’s. I have to apologize to you Norm…months ago you were speaking with Kevin Grey and the Rhino A&R Guy talking about the Television reissue on Rhino. At the time I was thinking, Jesus, Mazzy loves to brag about his connections with Rhino or the Lennon estate that gave him copies of the new Mind Games Box set…then it dawned on me, in our social media era, you’re reprising your role as a record store employee…your getting promos to promote new vinyl product. I’m very sorry I had that knee jerk reaction. It’s what companies do now to promote product, and you do a great job. Keep up the good work. Love the tales of San Fran, riding bikes to the panhandle to see the Dead at 12 years of age, what an incredible privilege you had. Anyway, please accept my wrong first impressions…R.I.P. Willy Mays, The “Say Hey Kid.” Take Care…Bruce in Tacoma.
Thanks for the comments. Yeah, the promo part is a very small part of what I show here. In my case it’s just Kufic I love and the journey. Cheers ✌🏼
What record shelving units do you use for storage? Are they commercially available? Thanks for sharing your set up.
IKEA Bonde. They were unfortunately discontinued about 15 years ago.
Great video. Keep pouring the cocktails 🙂.
Always!🍸
I too listen in my living room space with tv in the middle, the difference with my space is that it’s smaller. I have a more compact sound which I really like. Your place I sense has a more hall space sound because of the size. I love B&W photography and movies. I have a Technics 1200 turntable from the late nineties and Integrated amp and Klipch speakers. ✌️
Very nice set up Mazzy. What I have is a little bit below what you have lol ! But it’s what I could afford with my budget/income and I like how it sounds for the records I have and play.
Sony STR DH 190 Reciever Sony PSLX 310 BT Turntable Sony SSCS5 Speakers and a Onkyo DXC 390 6 CD Changer
B&W 801's my speakers with NAD receiver.
Black and white like the beginning of The Wizard of Oz.
Nice to see your record player and speakers.
My receiver is a Rega. Love your turntable.
Loved the video! How about a part 2 ?
By the way. Integrated amplifier is Rega Elex -R. Phono stage is Rega Aria MKIII
"Rega likes to play with Rega" I recently upgraded my speakers from Paradigm Prestige 15b (now on my second rig which like you sounds really good) upgraded to
KEF R3 Meta
For me that was the biggest positive change.
Nice video - all your choices are well considered and don’t need defending! My only suggestion would be to consider one of the many phono stages with a mono switch. I think you would notice a big improvement when playing mono records with your terrific stereo cart.
I have a Hannah ML cartridge with a Sutherland Kansas City vibe phone preamp. It is quiet! I bought Mofi‘s Excitable Boy and it had a little surface noise, I thought it needed a few more plays to settle down. I brought it over to a friends house who has a cheaper cartridge and it was so noisy. I sent the album back for replacement.
Is the blue as quiet as the ML ? Like seeing your set up.
I loved Ilford b/w film used on my Minolta XD7/XD11, made just a few miles away. Sometimes it works so much better than colour.
Black and white video is the "mono" of the video world!😊
I'm a big film noir fan. Black & white rocks my socks!
An interesting quote: “Life is much more successfully looked at from a single window, after all” - F. Scott Fitzgerald from The Great Gatsby
If music is life, it makes sense to incorporate music into your living space. "Audiophilia" is about using music to listen to your gear as opposed to what most people do which is using gear to listen to their music. As far as aesthetics playing a part, I suspect that's the case for most people. No need to apologize for a goddamn thing. Great-looking system!
Cheers, Tom
Thank you Sir 😎
Agree. I went from a Mac integrated to a Pass Labs amp and the grip it has over my 703s3’s is totally different. I can even hear bass now 😂. Granted, I like things a bit richer than most, but there’s now enough bass that I don’t even feel like I “need” my sub on.
Massey Enjoyed your room tour. Have a rega 2 turntable. 8 version looks great. Also enjoyed your soft rock blog. Trevor Marshall, Northern Ireland.
Thank you ✌🏼
Hey Mazzy, great system. It seems like we run in the same circles, I can't believe our paths haven't crossed! I too am a big fan of Hawthorne Stereo. I was a friend of Bob's for many years. I lived on the Eastside (Kirkland) for 30+ years and recently moved south to the Olympia area. In order to calm my hi-fi addiction I found Gig Harbor Hi Fi as well. I also recently upgraded my 2 channel system turntable from a Pro-Ject RPM 5 to a McIntosh MT-5 and experienced a similar vibration/isolation problem as you. After a few attempts with various isolation platforms I settled on the IsoAcoustics zaZen II. If you decide to add a platform I would highly recommend it. Keep up the great videos and maybe we will run in to each other at Silver Platters or the other go to spots in the Seattle area.
A beautiful home, house, setup, with some norwegian technology (I’m Norwegian) for a beautiful mensch.
Love the black and white Mazzy. Makes your punim look like it is featured in Stardust Memories (I love that film) or Manhattan.
Cheers from Morten
Thank you ✌🏼
Curious what you use for cables Mazzy ?
Mazzy, I am glad you enjoy your system. That is the key. To enjoy our music.
I don't agree with your attitude re: dust covers. But to each their own. I do not like when people criticize my system. I enjoy my sound , considering I have been building my system since 1976. Like you, I love what I have . Keep enjoying your gear it all is good.
Well said! The table dust cover (for me) based on a somewhat reverberation when the lid is down. The Rega P8 and 10 can’t be played with it on anyway.
But I agree whatever you like and works
That's right...love that" Neu "LP
It really should be more of an anachoic chamber. A living room like on the STation to Station album cover Bowie walks into.
My system isn’t on your level but I love it. A Vincent SR500 integrated amp, Denon cd 800 series, Music Hall stealth turntable with a ortofon blue phono cartridge, Vincent PA500 phono preamp and tekton lore speakers. And yes I have my bop kit drums also.
I want to live, Mazzy!! Lol.
✌🏼😆
Now that I have a turntable again, I am going through the Damp Collection. I wish you could be here filming it & more importantly your reactions. It would be like Woody Allen boating in Central Park & running his hand into the lake & bringing it up full of gunk.
The Damp Collection would entail a very different Room Tour. Dust & damp & spiders' webs & grunge but not the musical kind: the Damp Collection, a Virgo nightmare. Great white splotches on vinyl - - yet most of those (so far) play incredibly well. The briefest SPINCARE cleaning & they're good to go.
Some in the Damp Collection *not* leaning against damp walls show no problems, unplayed for over 20 or 30 years.
But I fear I might not be able to revive Creedence Clearwater & some other '60s albums leaning against the furthest wall may have to be thrown out - - I can't bring myself to fathom those outer reaches of the Damp Collection yet, I just can't do it. It will take a lot of nerve to wade that deep into the Damp Collection. I first reported the Damp Collection on screen months ago, as you know, & next day Patrick was so baffled & traumatised that the only explanation he could think of to account for the sacrilege was: *He thinks he's so goddamn tough, trashing records that way!*
You've done Dizzy. You've done Coleman. Could you run a livestream auction for The Damp Collection for me?
Nice Living Stereo System
👍👍👍
Neu! ❤
I have a Planar 6 with Ania Pro. Seriously considered the Hana ML but did not want to go through the hassle of a spacer. I presume you use a spacer with yours?
As they say "Rega likes to play with Rega"
Awesome P8 deal. I can understand your fascination thogh I am a bit belpw the line with Planar 6, fono mc, hana sl. My best sounding system so far. For isolation you may give norbert lehmann a chance.
Hi Mazzy, there's only one suggestion I can make: don't change anything - neither your system nor your attitude. I think only recently I mentioned that I also listen to music where I live. We have an open kitchen, dining and sitting area and music is always playing, doesn't matter if we drink, eat, just sit, walk around, have friends around.
Grado carts rule!
Another fan of b & w (Noir is my favorite film style, Dr. Strangelove my favorite comedy film). I have a turntable isolation platform recommendation: the Townshend Audio (like Rega, a UK company) Seismic Vibration Isolation Platform. Not cheap, but very effective. Mazzy, I completely understand you not wanting to be a slave to your hi-fi (the system dictating your room's aesthetics), but is there an area rug you would consider covering the floor in front of the speakers with? I expect that would make a huge improvement in the sound of your system.
hey mazzy - question for you, do you have any tinnitus ear issues ?
I do not. Considering my age, I have very good hearing. But I ain’t 30
@@mazzysmusic good to hear !
Just lost my uncle today
He was my inspiration like my parents
❤ youngest in the group seriously, lost another 3 years prior. He always had a Marantz receiver, my other uncle he was into Pioneer in the 70’s.
Like me, liked what you’re liked as far as bands. You’re the same generation and love it. Grew up with it.
Also the other brother had reel to reel. Got to hear Billy Joel in it among other artists
My uncle wasn’t to much younger or older than you.
Only less than 14 years with me
I’m 50 this year and a mess to say the least
Sorry for your loss. Sounds like you have good memories ⭐️
i love black and white
My thinking is very similar, music first and enjoyment in music (not in a hi-fi system). My room is far from perfect, but I've created a corner inside the room that I only use for 2-channel listening, and I wouldn't trade that corner for anything in the world for a super sterile music room. I have a system quite similar to yours, except that I don't like MC cartriges. MM are more musical and especially I listen to records every day, I don't mean to change cartridges every 2-3 years for thousands of € or $. My philosophy: better top MM than entry MC, because top MCs are super expensive. My system: Rotel 1572 mk2 amplifier, Rega Planar 8 and Goldring 1022GX (more musical than 1042 for me), Marantz CD 60 and B&W 703 S3.
Hi Mazzy. Are you a musician? I saw some Vox and Fender amps and in your room. Some guitars on the wall…
I mediocre guitar player since I was 12. The drums used to belong to a very close friend who last away a decade ago. 🎸🥁
Golf GTI Mazzy? Great taste.
Mazzy goes film noir.
Hi Mazzy.. If you can manage to put each B&W spkr tower around 1.5ft away from the Credenza, you might like the wider stereo effect, especially if you have more guests listening.. Then you might want to try a new Phono stage too.. Maybe an MM only + high quality step up transformer for your Umami..
They are almost 9 feet apart and 2 out from the wall. There’s no more room to separate them more. I’ve played with positioning and it sounds good now
Monochrome for the win!
More records, don't see enough
Keep up the black and white, it could inspire 'influenzers'?
The Room looks like you.
Maybe a better way to say it is, that this room is your reflection.
Vandersteen makes xlnt speakers too.
The black & white looks great but I think like The Beatles you need to release a mono copy.
This was almost Ansel Adams like. Didn’t he do a great deal of photography of the Northwest?? Love the tour and the back story of your equipment. After all, isn’t it about the music. 😊
All over the American West really. From Arizona & New Mexico up to Montana, every where in between. He passed while I was stationed in Monterey 1984. He made his home in Big Sur.
Deep dark blue?? That's why you don't do black and white for a system review. We had such a brief moment to see this system.
I always enjoy when a person who has voted with their wallet on a system shares the choices and buying triggers. because value is always subjective , that information can be just as informative as a products specifications when choosing equipment, to me. ,
although I didn't have footfall issues , I chose to mount my turntable on the wall, figuring it couldn't hurt to at least theoretically , optimize the support.
turned that regular furniture shelves were not deep enough for a turntable , and the commercially offered dedicated turntable racks were ugly as sin, and cost about as much. I wound up modifying a fifty dollar garage storage rack , very simply, by just covering the thing with a nice decorative cloths , figuring I would build something nicer later, maybe decoratively painted, but so far I haven't found a round Toit , essential to project completion .
I am going to check out that amplifier brand, amplification is my systems weak link . my speaker instructions said minimum 200 watts are recommended, , so trying to form a match with my buying triggers hasn't been financially pretty jut window shopping. I fear my wallet might leave me after such shocking abuse. .
I agree with you but put the speakers a bit further away from the walls, 50 cm more should be possible without disturbing the esthetics.
Just the one olive?
Yeah. That’s usually enough when I make it myself 🫒
@@mazzysmusic Fine system. And yes: you deserve the Hegel. The Rega was designed and built in my home town Southend. Which is famous for all sorts of reasons.
Did I hear you right Mazzy... ''I don't play records that much any more???'' What the *_*!
Downstairs I don’t much. Upstairs I always do. ✌🏼✌🏼
hmmm, black and white...very arty. I bet you took film classes somewhere. Nice setup
Yes several years 😎 but more so working with still photographers for 36 years.
I use a Micro Seiki turntable.
I have a Denon DP - 3000 NE Premium Direct Drive with Ortofon LVB Black MM
Excellent table.
