In France most of our hifi shows are in hotel and listening rooms are side by side. Most of the time each room play music for 15 minutes and then we have 15 minutes of talking and commercial presentation while the other rooms on each side make their demo. This way you can really listen to the product and really talk to the team or take pictures.
Personaly I HATE what I call the "open rooms" where music is played in auto mode 24/7... the door is open, their is noise from outside, people talks... no one care about what music is played... It's just not hifi for me !

Your guessing at the snacks in the pictures. That made me laugh out loud.

You speak nothing but truth John. I thought the same meeting you in Sydney years back. I'm not a devore customer but I do like your speakers and philosophy on sound and the industry. In 2003 a late mate of mine and I exhibitited at Alexis Park in Vegas as Hollman Audio Australia. Our system was tri amped speakers with Jbl vintage drivers and other speakers with peerless and dynaudio drivers in a bi amped tower. My mate believed in working back from very efficient speakers with simple mid power transistor amps with active crossover. I still have the speakers today. Big and heavy....bold and dynamic. We make some fine products down under. Duntech Dohmann Audio turntables and of course Halcro Amps. Have a listen to the Dohmann turntable even if it is beyond what you are willing to spend. Way way way beyond my means but ide buy if ever in the position too. It's that good. 😊

Pretty sure that amp with the robin's egg speakers is a Wavac. Nice systems. Munich is successful because, it long consistent history in one place, and the layout provides for much more comfortable travel between exhibitors than most hotels.

I also decided to go to Munich this year instead of Axpona. I saw you Saturday but didn’t want to bug you as were talking. 😅😅

I went to Ascot in the UK - way more relaxing than a show in a hotel and much more scenic - fancastic horse racecourse with great scenery and had a good cross section of people.
Hope you come to it one day and meet you playing death metal in your display 😊

Possibly the greater public attendance in Munich compared to US shows has to do with ease of accessibility within Europe. I’d much rather take a train, car, or plane from within Europe (relatively short distances) than trek however many thousands of miles across the US.

There are many shows in germany, in austria, in italy in, everywhere in europe, without cannibalization of HEM. But I think it’s that whatever set of countries are in hype state while others may not it keeps the momentum in HEM, as it’s central. I don’t know if the US high-end waves are equal across the country or different per state, like in europe.

I went to munich high end this year for the first time ever, I really enjoy audio shows since I love the hobby. I was actually really disappointed with Munich, I felt really rushed as a none trades person with only two days and a total of 14 hours. I was so happy when I saw four days and so disappointed when I can only go for such a short time.
I had no chance to go to the exhibition hall or headphones. I definitely missed a few rooms and for the invest I put into this I definitely felt disappointed.
The only positive things I can say is the music was great, not the same thing over and over and over again at every American expo. I loved that there was so much high end products but honestly oddly disappointing in performance. I feel that a lot of brands did a lot to create proper room acoustics, but I wasn't getting the "high end" experience I expected.

Will you ever make a loudspeaker with only one full range driver unit and without a crossover ? Thanks for this weeks show 😊

I’m not sure people know how expensive it is to Present at a show.

Hey John I've got a question, do you ship your speakers over to Germany for the show? Or do you have like a local distributor provide you with your speakers and products for the show?
I don't know I just wonder from like a business perspective, because it seems to me that it would be quite costly to box up a pair of 099s and ship those big heavy speakers to Germany along with all the ancillary equipment, but then again also I understand the idea of you got to pay to play, meaning that if you want to make a showing and sell products in the European market you have to do it, cost be damned.

We've done it both ways, shipping speakers for the show (in the case of new models for example) and having our Germany distributor bring speakers already in country. It doesn't change that much, as we still have to ship several pallets of stuff for the show either way...

Jonny Boi, did you run in to your good conservative buddy Mikey in Deutschland? Or is that to much for a sensitive Brooklyn hipster to handle?
