    In case anyone just wants the basic settings:
    Spongy, tube rectifier
    Red channel, modern
    Gain: 6
    Volume: 1.5
    Bass: 3
    Middle: 7
    Treble: 6
    Presence: 4

      At about 2:15 he actually says he uses the Spongy and Tube Rectifier settings, not Bold/Diode. And before that said volume is at ~1.5.

    • @theghosty99
      @theghosty99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That said I think people really should watch all the way through to get the fuller understanding of how to tweak their own, since theirs are likely to be very different from his.

      Rectos don't have numbers like a marshall. That's confusing to people. Why not describe it as in clock settings? Because all we have is a silly dot you can barely see anyways.

  • @kintaro_f
    @kintaro_f 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    somehow I missed this when it got posted! Gotta try the spongy setting now I guess, nice video and sound! At the moment I rolled back the Gain almost all the way and boosted the Master, has a lot of dynamic that way, even some clean tones if I play soft (even though Modern Channel). 🤘🎸🔥

    • @90sPunkRockCovers
      @90sPunkRockCovers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried that. You can also use the FX loop knob trick as a secondary master volume as well, or as a "solo" boost which is pretty cool. I definitely like how the spongy setting makes the amp "sag" a lil more, and makes it less harsh. Cheers 🥃

      @@90sPunkRockCovers I always promise myself to never touch the knobs again once I love a setting only to change it again the very next time. 😁🤘🎸🔥

      Does the fx loop knob control the volume of the whole amp or just the fx loop? I just got this amp and have a lot to learn 😂

    Your tone is very nice! In my opinion your Mesa has also a brighter tone because of the Bogner cab, it ads bite, it's great. I think the mesa cab is darker.

    • @90sPunkRockCovers
      @90sPunkRockCovers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Anjer. This Mesa is pretty bright, compared to the 3 channel models, but yes, the Bogner cab has a more raw biting tone than a Mesa cab in my experience. I used to own a 2x12 Recto Cab and the 4x12 Oversized one and boy those thing could thump. Too much low end for me tho.

    Thanks for the video, I was waiting for it a long time :) I'm really surprised how much the sound changed when you fiddle with the presence knob. I have never really paid much attention to it. Good job buddy!

      Think of presence as you’re treble control for your power tubes . Actual treble controls preamp tubes

    I am sure the guitar does it's thing to the tone but this is the best Rectifier Sound i have heard so far.
    Usually people use muddy low tuned guitars with a ton of Gain, probably month old strings as well and it always sounds really bad.
    Based upon that i always thought that a DR is definitively not my cup of tea but now i am starting to think that i need one!

    • @90sPunkRockCovers
      @90sPunkRockCovers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks a lot for the comment. The guitar does sound good with every amp I own but the same thing can be said about this particular Rectifier, every guitar I own sounds amazing through it!
      These older Rev F's and even earlier revisions have a very distinct sound in comparison the the later ones. I'm not the only one who thinks that way, it is well documented at this point that the sound and feel of these older amps have a certain magic to them.
      There are people who still prefer the darker and "muddier" sounding Rev G's, but its all personal preference in the end. I do have to agree with you in that most of the videos I have seen on TH-cam have that sound you are talking about (down tuned heavier stuff) which is not my cup of tea, and which is why I wanted to make this video in the first place.
      Glad you enjoyed it man and good luck finding yours. Cheers 🍻

      @@90sPunkRockCovers Haha, man i come back so often to this clip and just listen how great it sounds!
      I think the main factor is the plaing, the guitar and the amp, but the recording seems to be on spot as well.
      Can you recall how it was done exactly? I can hear the strings so guess it is camera mic maybe mixed
      with the mic on the cab or is it just camera audio?

      @@ThornWithinthank you for coming back to the video. I was trying to use the AKG C2140 as a room mic to capture an “in the room sound” blended with the 57 and it did pick up the string noise since I was too close to the mics and the amp was not cranked up enough. I know it wasn’t the best way to do it but it’s the best I could in this scenario.

    • @ThornWithin
      @ThornWithin 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@90sPunkRockCovers Thanks for the info man, well, you did a great job there, i think it is a great tone, the strings give it a natural feel which is better than you might think. Next time i do some recording i will try that method, it is definitively a really authentic in the room tone! :)

    Sounds great! Those Rev F and older models really bring a different kind of rectifier sound to the table...I have a Rev F Triple and it's just much more "90s voiced" if that makes sense.
    The only thing I found odd about the 2ch rectos is that the Orange Channel is extremely dark with Presence settings up until 7 or so and then gets bright quickly, same for your model? Still manageable, but it has a weird taper.

    • @90sPunkRockCovers
      @90sPunkRockCovers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Definitely a much different beast than the newer models. They all sound like a Recto but these older models just sound more organic to me, less fizz and with more of a "thunk" characteristic. Orange channel on mine is plenty dark as well, I really like the sound of it though. I really like cloning the Orange channel to Modern as well, definitely opens it up more but still feels more thick and chewy than the Red channel on "Modern" mode. The taper is not very gradual, you are right about that. Cheers.

    Really great tones! I wish we got close-ups of the settings and back-to-back comparisons. I think I like the mids at 11:00 better though, sounds a bit more "Recto" to me.

    Like am I too high or am I hearing ambient sounds of the stings? Because how can I tell what your amp sounds like when I can your strings being hit ? Is your lav mic or voice over mic picking this up? WTF.

    • @90sPunkRockCovers
      @90sPunkRockCovers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nah you are correct, second mic was picking up the ambient room sound from the strings. I can’t turn the volume up too high since I live in a townhouse so I had to crank the mic levels to compensate. The whole point was to create an “in room” sound, but I guess you can’t please everyone.
