    The Mesa rectifier; this amp is as versatile as it gets. Probably the only amp you'll need for the rest of your life \m/

      If you play in a Metallica tribute band, then yes... this is the only amp you'll ever need. If you want a truly versatile Boogie amp get a JP-2C.

    Just ordered my Dual Rectifier today, and bought a Marshall 1960A cabinet today for it! I cannot wait until my Recto comes!
    Edit: Had for almost a month now and it's incredible! I guess you can say my tone was..... rectified.

      Paul, I have a peavey 6505mh, an Engl fireball 100 and a katana 50. I gotta say, they are all very different. If I had a gun to my head, and had to pick only one, the Mesa dual rec would be the one.

    I bought this amp a year ago, with the Black Taurus panel option. By far the best amp I ever played, and every time I play it I am so glad I bought it. This is a really versatile amp too, you can get a lot of really good clean and distorted sounds out of it.

    After watching about 30 videos on this amp, I finally got one today. It's simply amazing. I got one that's multi-watt, built after 2010. I plan to get a Vader 4X12 instead of a Mesa 4X12 cab. The reason is I have a cat ( metal grill ) and the Vader can be pushed to 480 watts. Vader hold their value a lot better and are rarer.

    @mmim4 if you still dont know and to anyone else, a diode makes the rectifier (it allows voltage to only go one way) the dual rectifier uses 4 diodes (2 in series) to get rid of any negative voltage, to keep all of the positive high voltage. a tube rectifier is pretty much the same, only differnce is, the diode is made of sillicon, a tube makes use of a vacuum.

  • @KHGuitarFreak1988
    @KHGuitarFreak1988 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @mmim4 Nope. The rectifier basically works to convert AC power from your wall into DC power for use by your amplifier. Most amplifiers today run with solid state a.k.a. diode rectifiers. The Dual Rectifier series allows you to select the rectification for each channel, either valve/tube or diode rectification...

    Just for the record, Although this demo says channel 2 and 3 are "Set up the same" they are in fact different. The knobs and switches are the same however, the red channel and orange channel have different components inside and are very different animals.

    @Zhorellski Wattage is about how much headroom you have - when do the tubes break up. Volume level is measured in decibels :). 25 Watt and 100 Watt are almost the same decibels, so both are freakin' loud anyways :D - to see this check the tube for a video How loud is a Mesa Dual Rectifier (100W) and How loud is a Mesa Transatlantic (25W). The 5W will just break up really soon, but are also too loud for home if you crank them up :) Besides that power section can only technically be 100, 50 and 25

      Mesa endorsees are a pretty exclusive group. Petrucci, Santana, and Timmons are the only ones I know of and Petrucci I'm pretty sure has the only signature model ever made. Gotta go down to the crossroads for that shit. Lol

    I got a dual rectifier because I adore john petrucci's tone (it's kinda hard to replicate). Other than that, It's got that perfect mix of distortion & clean tones. I can get an acoustic tone & at the same time, I can switch to a death metal crunchiness in an instant.

    So this is a jack of all trades master of all amp then. I can definitely see the reason for it's price point now. Is there a major difference between channels 2 and 3 or are they the same channel that you can use to set in different ways?

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi +FGFoxy - Thanks for the kind words. Ch. 2 & 3 are identical except for the presence controls which are a slightly different taper in the pots.

    • @cryogen7011
      @cryogen7011 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So that would in theory mean I could have one of the channels set to vintage voicing as a lead channel and have the other set to modern as a rhythm channel? Right now I need to figure out how to get money for the head and matching 4x12.

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! There's obviously many ways to configure this, BUT - this is one of the ways that we often suggest since Vintage sounds AWESOME for solo stuff and Modern is KILLER for rhythm. So - hats off to you... you're right on the money with the intended usage. :) Thanks for your interest!

    These Dual and Triple recs are Mesa best amps by far. They come out with all these other amps trying to tap all the markets but this one will do it all. Roadking, roadster, lonestar. This amp will do all of those. Pointless to go after anything other than a dual rec. Triple rec offer more power but who freaking cares. You can’t use it or certainly can hear the difference. I currently own a Express 5:50 mini stack. Cool little amp but again just get a dual rec...don’t over think it..

  • @MusicFillsMyLife
    @MusicFillsMyLife 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Zhorellski It's a matter of tubes that defines the wattage. I bet they just didn't want to put another different type of tube in there to mess with their circuit.

    I've ever thought that Mesa is probably the only brand that really you need to know before selling an amp. Who sell a Rectifier probably doesn't know , as always, how to set it correctly. Never max the presence control an treble too, I've seen video where presence where at max and it sounds horrible. The less treble control you use the more power have bass and middle, like all Mark series. And, anyways, everything is on the manual. Read it...I would work for you ahaha I'm born in the wrong place.

  • @Dmadness90
    @Dmadness90 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    it has to do with power tube break up. 100 watts is only 3 db louder than 50 watts. but the 50 watt drop in power will give a much sooner brake up in the power section.

  • @ryanbrandt7620
    @ryanbrandt7620 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a mesa 5: 50 plus. I realized I'm needing more high gain than the burn and crunch modes obtain. Besides completely switching my rig to a dual/triple rec, would the throttle box peddle be a good choice to push my amp. I'm looking for that Umphrey's Mcgee like heavy tone. Great demo!

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ryan - The Throttlebox tends to be the pedal that guys use into a clean channel to get Rectifier style gain from the pedal. It sounds like you probably want to blend the gain from a pedal with your Express gain sounds, at which point, we would probably recommend the Flux-Drive or probably the Flux-Five (with Graphic EQ) as the most versatile, all around pedal to add gain to existing gain channels. BONUS: The Flux Five sounds great with the clean channel too! :) Hope this helps and good luck in your search.

    • @stgibson2810
      @stgibson2810 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the time it's due to the intonation of the guitar. Your guitar may tune up correctly with open notes but may be entirely out when tuned at the upper frets. Your saddles and action may need to be adjusted. If that still doesn't fix the problem then it could be the nut/truss rod/height of the pickups.

  • @mainlymusicman

    question... is the new dual recto which seems to have some of the features that came in roadster, now a better sounding amp than the roadster? since it came out after the roadster ( i believe)

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question,mainlymusicman - The Roadster was the introduction of Lone Star based clean sounds in the Rectifier series and after it was released, the Road King was updated to that same circuit. In 2010, the Dual and triple Rectiufiers were updated to the Lone Star Clean circuit as well as offering Multi-Watt switching and a few other feature upgrades. That's the long answer to your question... the short answer is YES! The latest Dual and Triplke Recs have all the features of the Roadster but only 3 channels (instead of 4) and no reverb. Thanks for your interest!

    Just wondering if you can assist? Been playing this amp since it came out. Recorded with it for 4 cds with a Les Paul Custom with EMG 81/85. I love this amp. Clean channel awesome. Question: trying to duplicate a tone in my head. Basically a JCM 800 and. Dual Rectifier. Any ideas on settings? Looking for a solid rhythm tone similar to Like Sykes on Whitesnake period and a soaring lead similar to Wylde on No More Tears. I have been close but no cigar. If anyone had the setting let me know. I only use a chorus pedal and delay that it in the loop.
    Thx

    I played a few rectos - old one, multi watt, roadster.. now I own Road King II and I am very happy with it but none of these amps has that level of natural saturation without tube screamer or any boost pedal.. I have guitars with emg's, pra HFS and mesa recto 2x12 cab.. so my question is : are u boosting it in this video or what's the secret ? thanx for an answer !

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tomas - no boosting in this video. What you hear is what the amp can do. If you hear any differences, I suspect what you are hearing is the differences in players hands and the techniques and styles etc. Keep in mind that Marcus here, in the video, has worked at Mesa for 15 years and used to be a playtester... He's probably played through more Mesa's than almost anyone on the planet. That often helps to get great tone from amps. :) Hope this helps and hope your amps are working well!

    • @MrMetalNoob
      @MrMetalNoob 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Tomas, would be nice if MESA/Boogie TH-cam channel help you, but they wan't. So I will. They get that sound from amp because the sound was recorded in MONO channel, so you need to panned and mix the clip from mono, this make a more gain. Also a 4x12 cab has more natural bass because the air inside the cab. There you have the solution.

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Adam - The 3 channel Rectifiers were designed to sound the same as the 2 channel ones but offer the additional channels for switching and configuring the amp for more switchable sounds. SO... YES! You should absolutely be able to get the exact same sound. Hope your 2 channel is working well and thanks for watching!

      MESA/Boogie I have just noticed that the presence control on channel one works when I'm using channel two, they both work on channel 2. I think only on the vintage setting but I'll have to double check. I like to use the silicon diode setting aswell and unfortunately it's a lot more noticeable on that setting. I did buy it second hand, ( in beautiful condition I might add, still in its case) but I would appreciate some advice if you have any, on what it could possibly be, or even if it's normal and I'm just making a fool of myself. Thank you

      Hey Adam - when in Ch. 2 with the Cloning switch set to "Red to Vintage", the Orange channel Prescence control does also work. Totally normal. Rock on! :)

    The problem with this amps is that ALL the sounds are so awesome, you actually want 3-4 amps and rigs to play all the time for different sounds/setups..From Rock, to Metal, to Trash, to Blues.....

      @mesaboogie  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hitimeforachange12 - Set the Loop Assign switch on the back to the channel you want the effect on. Whenever you switch to that channel (and the effect is on), you'll have that sound with the effect (and not on any other channels). Hope this helps!

    I got my Multi watt rectifier but it just doesn't have the oomph that this one seems to have. It seems like there is much less gain. I got it used. Would bad power tubes cause this?

    • @GabePerson

      It also seems muddy and I have to have the treble and presence set almost all the way up to get it to sound good.

      Hi GreenDay - sorry to hear you're having trouble. The issues you've mentioned could definitely be tube issues. Have you tried replacing the tubes? Did you buy it used or new? Have you spoken to anyone at the Mesa factory about it? You could also watch this video for starters to learn more about tube troubleshooting and replacement: th-cam.com/video/wSl-l9aWDHw/w-d-xo.html
      It could be either a power tube or a preamp tube, so solid troubleshooting is what's neede to find out. Let us know if you have questions and we'll be glad to help you get the amp back up to speed!

    I'm having some issues with the sound of my rack mount Dual Rectifier. Channel 1 clean, is very dark and muddy with overly pronounced low end. When dialing in the sample setting from the manual, the clean sound is very broken up and unusable as a clean sound. Channel Two is no different in that it also sounds very dark and muddy. I have read the owner's manual over and over and am very familiar with how this amp works, but when following the manual's mantra of, "less is more" I am left wanting more clarity and precision out of my Boogie.
    I play country rock, classic 90's country and 80's pop in a band so I have no need for boosting the front end with overdrive like a typical metal player, but I do need my amp to be punchy, tight and lively. I wanna love it, but I'm just not getting what I was promised. Any suggestions, Mesa Boogie???

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Anthony - Depending on the serial number of your rackmount Rectifier, there may not be an incredibly robust clean channel on your amp. There could also be a problem with your amp that needs troubleshooting - either tubes or possibly something else. Hard to say exactly based on your description. Early Rectifiers had a clean channel that was not the same as the clean channels of three channel Rectifiers (in this video) and the settings for the amp in this video or in 3 channel manuals would not directly apply as this amp has a different clean circuit from 2 channel amps. You could start with low gain settings around 10:00, High Master settings around 2:00 - or all the way up - and if you're using the loop, you should set the Loop Active Master around 12:00. If you find the sound bass heavy, feel free to run the bass very low - 9:00 - or off if needed. Start with Treble, Middle and Presence at 12:00 but adjust them to taste once you have the previous settings I just mentioned in place. Also, keep in mind that the higher you turn the Treble control past 12:00, the less bass you will get overall - so you may be able to turn the bass up if you run the treble higher above 12:00. It may be a matter of finding a sweet spot in the amp for the clean you want, or it may be that the clean channel in a two channel Rectifier isn't exactly for you. You might consider calling MEsa Customer Service to discuss your settings and the possibility of whether or not the amp is working correctly as troubleshooting via TH-cam comments can be long winded. Hope this helps and let us know what you find out! :)

      Thanks for your insight! I will be trying some troubleshooting measures soon. The manual I was referring to in my message was the two channel Recto manual found on the Mesa website support page.

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhhh, OK. That makes more sense. This might lead us to think that there is something wrong with the amp then and troubleshooting would be the next step. Feel free to contact Mesa Customer Service for guidance and support to try and figure out what's happening. Sounds like the amp should be sounding much better than it is. Let us know what you find out.

      UPDATE: It seems that I've found the source of my problem. I bypassed the FX loop and there was the sound in all its glory. The guy I bought the amp from (who's a buddy of mine) did tell me he had it modded to make the loop series instead of parallel so I'm thinking that restoring the loop to its original state should fix my issue. I do have a tech who I take my amps to and trust. Is it safe to have him restore the loop or should I send it in to Boogie?

      Hi +Muhammed Terkei - When this video was recorded, Mesa was still perfecting it's audio and video processes and this was the best we could capture at the time. While the tone in the video is a little rolled off, the amp is MORE than capable of brilliant presence and brightness and controlling that with the Treble and Presence controls on the amp! Thanks for watching.

    my rectifier seems to loose bottom end when i play at high volumes.

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      HiMartin Romero - Nearly all Mesa manuals will state this when discussing the Bass control. As Gain or Master goes up, Bass should go down (because Gain and Master increases Bass response). You may think you want a high Bass setting because you want a lot of bass, BUT... There are limits to where all three can be set. Try turning the bass control down with your eyes closed (so you're not looking at where the control is when you adjust it) and listen for where you get good bass response with maximum gain/volume. Hope this helps and let us know what you find out! :D

    He said the fx loop is series but at the end it says parallel...So, which is it?? The parallel loop on the original 3 channel rectors is among the worst loops out there. Hopefully this is really series. Other than that, this demo is great! Amp sounds fantastic!
