The one game I owned growing up that I could not beat even with a turbo controller that had slow motion 😂 I can really appreciate how good this guy really is.
Just recently beat this on normal for the first time. Very addictive and fun. I actually prefer this over the arcade version. Great trick on that mission 9 boss too. Didn't realize you could pass under the enemies on the conveyer belt but seeing how often they come in I guess it makes more sense than trying to napalm all of them. That was the boss that gave me the most trouble. Great run! 👍🏻
it was nice to see you go against the last boss with your last life and survive :).. using Falcon instead of bulpop against second last boss would have been easier.. it was fun to see you play the submarine. your style, choice of weapons, strategy of buying planes is similar to mine, at timesI was able to buy the last plane before submarine red alert.
Truly a boss for stepping up to Gamer and you did it EXACTLY how Shin Kazama would in the OVA: Crusader until it couldn't keep up. One strategy I came up with in the early 90s for the Level 10 sub-boss is to just stay on the left side, when he drops a missile launcher on the ground, give it one Falcon Missile to take it out and just WAIL your vulcan cannon on him nonstop. You'll use ~10 Falcons and it's much easier than "looping" around him like they want you to. Thanks to Game Genie,'s infinite special weapons code, I got to experiment a bit with ideas like using the A-10A on the final stage. That's how I discovered the Falcon Trick.
God I miss this game. Knew about “gamer” mode from my uncle. I got the game from him when I was 10. Me and my younger brother would speed run the game on normal. Or do what we called “no man left standing” play through. Basically got points for every bad guy that got away. In the end though, trying to beat this on gamer took us the longest. I doubt I could still do it.
I have played and replayed this game so many times, in fact my last deed was to complete the lockheed stage with the corsair in hard mode, but i definely have to try it in that gamer mode.
I never commented on this? It's such a great run - all the drama of a Gamer run on this game. Most of my clears on that difficulty were just like that, though I think I only used Shin once or twice. Usually I chickened out and used Greg. Anyway, I wanted to know if you found Gamer as annoying as I did or if it is fun. I always had fun on Hard, but Gamer always felt more like work.
When I played it way back I recall it being kind of a struggle. I was a lot more inexperienced back then and just kind of playing off raw instinct instead of having any sort of strategy. If I were to replay the game I'd certainly plan out a lot more of what I was doing and also practice and study the sections that were problems. I do agree that Hard is a significant step down from Gamer and you can kind of breeze through it without too much trouble.
@@PEG Yeah if I could tell my 15-18 yr old self anything, it would be to watch the patterns more closely. They look so simple now, but I think I over-thought things, and relies too much on reaction speed and instinct.
I was able to beat hard fairly consistently back in the day but never gamer. This video was the first time I beat it so its still somewhat recent compared to when the game was released.
just finished the game on gamer mode, but there is a far easier way to complete the stages: after first stage do: 2)B2B stealth bomber -> 3) sand airflight carrier -> 4)jungle fortress -> 5)Wolfpack -> 6) sea destructor -> 7) lockhed stage (you may die twice here but if you get the 2 stars the 2 times before dying, then you get 200.000$ totally, enough to get the 1M$ Steath fighter, then -> Submarine with the 1M$ steath figher, not with the corsair. -> 7)lockheed stage ith the 1M$ steath fighter and ->finally 8)flying fortress

beat this game when it was arcade days with one coin. no loss of life. no buying of powerups, shields. etc just to leave a high score so no one could beat it.
I remember beating this on gamer without losing any lives. I also remember when I first started playing when I was 5 and couldn't get past the first level lol
After all this time, I just beat this game yesterday on normal mode. The enemies are so much more aggressive here though, my goodness the submarine level looks 30x more annoying!
PegboyFighting as Greg Gates : Front line base/Enemy Air Force/The Minks/Forest Fortress/Wolfpack Squadron/Desert/ Seavet Submarine/Canyon/Mountain District/P4 Fortress. I pass an early minks Destoyer (every other player takes this mission as an advanced stage I see), and i really HATE the boss in the Mountain District !
yo nunca supe si esos lagasos era el juego o la consola ya le tenian exprimido su maximo rendimiento. ( yo lo tenia en la snes original ) y daba esos lagasos
in level 7, is it a bug or are you suppose to be able to dodge the turrets on the conveyor belt by flying on the ground level? i had no idea you could do that.
PEG I've been playing this game for 25 years, beating it countless times on hard, only once on gamer. I never knew they couldn't hit you on the bottom of the conveyuer. Gotta start playing again I guess. BTW kudus on finishing the boss with the very last phoenix :)
You can go under the left-side enemies, but only if they're not firing. It's possible to do the ceiling boss on gamer without going underneath, but it's very tricky. That boss is a nightmare
As somebody who prefers to play games on their highest difficulty, it always bugs me to learn of hidden settings. Sure, I'm yet to ever beat this game on Hard (or any difficulty, for that matter), but I can't go back to that now knowing that something higher exists.
Yeah I agree it's annoying that you have to put in special codes to access these modes. Gradius III and Aero Fighters for SNES also have hidden difficulty modes where you need to enter a code.
PEG I feel similarly about unlockable difficulties in newer games, since I'd rather start on the highest with my first play through, but at least those aren't outright hidden from the player in the same sense.
I've been playing this since '92 and only just discovered Gamer mode a couple of days ago! Can't get past the ceiling boss yet but I will! As for starting out on gamer mode...Much better to play on normal first, then once you do it without continuing try hard and once you can that without continues try Gamer. I predict that will be a lot more enjoyable than starting on Gamer
Danny Colverson I started like that and it's way more enjoyable that way and at the same time you get better and learn where the enemy is coming from. So far I'm able to beat it on hard without continues but the sub level still dominates me. One day.
Hey this is Danny Colverson on my other account....Yeah, playing Gamer from the start would be sadistic - almost like going to university to study maths before learning your times tables! The Sub is extremely difficult on Gamer, but if you can complete it on hard without continuing then you're not far away from beating the sub. I like to use the Crusader and Bullpup. I litterally can't do it with the first plane. Another tip is delay the sub mission as long as you can, ie, do all the other missions first so your gun is as upgraded as it can be - Hopefully around 50. Or even 60. If you try and do it too early when the gun is at 25, it's muuuuuch more difficult. Choose your moment and get down low and shoot and fire the Bullpup point blank right in the sub's "face". One or two of the Bullpups will go above and hopefully take out a plane or two. While waiting for the sub to come up each time I use the Phoenix missile to help with the planes. Once you've used all 10 Bullpups on the sub and the Megacrush, you're probably about 2/3 of the way there. The sub is 2nd only to the ceiling boss in difficulty I would say. Good luck!
Y como cojones se puede jugar en dificultad modo GAMER, si yo recuerdo k este juego lo pase en easy, normal y en hard... Pero no existia el modo gamer... Alguien de la vieja escuela me explique...
Hold down the A and X Buttons on the second controller and press right on the D-Pad on the first controller until you see the “Gamer” Level appear on the screen.
I am working on a crazy U.N. Squadron series. I should have played as Shin on Normal difficulty instead of Greg. I may have failed as Shin on Hard without the Efreet, but I may well try again in a bonus video. I'm working up the courage to do a Mickey-Gamer-No Efreet run with a Super Advantage Joystick. I did it two years ago, but the webcam footage makes it nerve wracking! By the way, wasn't it you who recommended an Elgato Game Capture?
+supernintendosp That's cool, it's nice to see this awesome game being played. And yes, I do use the El Gato HD game capture to record my videos. I use the Framemeister XRGB-Mini to upscale the 240p video and capture it with the El Gato.
+Pegboy So it was you whom I should credit...I use an Elgato Game Capture due to my old CRT monitor. Thank you for mentioning the HD version in one of your descriptions. If it weren't for you, I would still be seeking out a solution!
Well my advice for at least to make the final boss easier is when you shoot the mega crush, your invincible so i always try to fly up the main shaft and shoot it a bit with the vulcan cannon too and fly out as the mega crush ends. Ya i never use those super shells either, no penetration

beat this game when it was arcade days with one coin. no loss of life. no buying of powerups, shields. etc just to leave a high score so no one could beat it.
How is every track on this game a banger amazing
I remember beating this on gamer without losing any lives. I also remember when I first started playing when I was 5 and couldn't get past the first level lol
After all this time, I just beat this game yesterday on normal mode.
The enemies are so much more aggressive here though, my goodness the submarine level looks 30x more annoying!
I remember when I was just a little boy my cousins and brother s use to play this everyday.. 🙂
Wonderful job ! I beat 1CC that game on Gamer difficulty but it was so painful...you make it looking easy ! My level order is quite different BTW.
TBYVGS BOS Thanks! What was your level order?
PegboyFighting as Greg Gates : Front line base/Enemy Air Force/The Minks/Forest Fortress/Wolfpack Squadron/Desert/ Seavet Submarine/Canyon/Mountain District/P4 Fortress. I pass an early minks Destoyer (every other player takes this mission as an advanced stage I see), and i really HATE the boss in the Mountain District !
I remember the existence of the secret life where its icon is the pilot's helmet, do you know where is located?
yo nunca supe si esos lagasos era el juego o la consola ya le tenian exprimido su maximo rendimiento. ( yo lo tenia en la snes original ) y daba esos lagasos
I love this game. Love Gunpod. Best special weapon ever.
in level 7, is it a bug or are you suppose to be able to dodge the turrets on the conveyor belt by flying on the ground level? i had no idea you could do that.
Its not a bug, at least i dont think it is. Dodging the turrets below is really the only method of handling this boss.
i had no clue that was a thing! oh man you have no idea how much time that boss took to defeat
2:26 Watch out for the blue jets. What? Why OH MY GOOOOOOOD
Superb gaming 💪💪💪🛩🛩
Sería bueno que este gran juego lo actualizen para PS4 y PS5

Good luck!
Good work
Y como cojones se puede jugar en dificultad modo GAMER, si yo recuerdo k este juego lo pase en easy, normal y en hard... Pero no existia el modo gamer... Alguien de la vieja escuela me explique...
Hold down the A and X Buttons on the second controller and press right on the D-Pad on the first controller until you see the “Gamer” Level appear on the screen.
Sabes que esta modo gamer cuando vez todos los proyectiles que te avientan los aviones de color azul

Which is harder? Gamer mode or Cuphead?
Gamer (Super Hard).
Are you using the SNES advantage? Is it considered cheating to use the turbo function?
+Cid333 I didnt use turbo, just a regular snes controller. That said, I do not consider using turbo to be cheating.

Turbo is useless in this game anyway - Vulcan fires for a good 2.5 seconds just holding down Y, if anything rapid mashing can actually slow ROF.
