I loved the purple lazer as a kid but it really made you get absorbed into the game because you had to button smash to keep up the max damage...Later as a lazy adult , i prefer the spray red weapon. I worked up too much sweat with the purple weapon and once you die, its like the purple aint even worth it in the later levels to button smash.
Bullets in Touhou: I would like to create a beautiful pattern while looks intimidating. Bullets in Raiden: I would like to kill that red/blue flying bastard.
I always used to pretend i was protecting the homes below and would try to get the enemies to crash in open spots away from crops XD I was such a noble lil kid back then
This game is really beautiful. You have to appreciate the level of detail especially for the the time it was made. Just look at the subtle little details like a crashing aircraft hitting a building it is actually rendering a authentic crater and building damage. Or all the shrapnel hitting the different surfaces. It's a shame it is only available on so few systems.. ie PS and arcade :P

Although the Vulcan and homing missile combo is the mainstay, this game is so well designed in terms of weapon balance that there is room to use all the weapons in a run. That's not always the case in games of this era.

I had fond memories of The Raiden Project on my PlayStation 1. I miss this game along with Strikers 1945 Plus, Wild Arms 1, Wild Arms 2, The Legend of Dragoon, The Legend of Legaia, Suikoden I, Suikoden II, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Also, the purple lighting bolt in this game is the best weapon hands down in this game. Finally, is it me, or does anyone else feel like that weapon is like a ginormous purple electrical schlong of a lightning bolt (or is it a plasma weapon) that you can use to dick smack the shit out of the Cranassian Empire in this game? How many of you share my sediment about that weapon?
Such a great shmup series, Raiden Project, Raiden DX, and the Raiden Aces collections are key games to have. Raiden 3 didn't feel as nice, but things picked back up for Raiden 4. Do have this one, Raiden Project, never really have time to play games as much, but in short bursts this one can be learned and mastered if the players reflexes and memory are sharp, as shown by the player here.
I used to debate with my friends of what game was the hardest shoot 'em up games everyone would say Gradius 3 and some say 1942, then I mention Raiden and they first thought i was talking about Mortal Kombat and then I mention go to the arcade and look for Raiden, remember when they were arcade?? and play a couple of rounds and then couldn't even get passed the second stage!!
Spent countless coins playing this in the arcade, then when I Finally got a ps1 and discovered that this game is on ps1 too I immediately searched for it and bought it. I felt so good not worrying that I will run out of coins and I can play it all day long.
Man miss this game memories 20yrs ago feel old now lol🤦♂️ and I could nvr beat lvl 3 I probably wasted 200 bucks I week on this game lol this dude is beast 💪

Played this game in the arcade back then..cleared the first loop with no casualty but played the second loop only halfway..too time consuming and a bit tired too XD
Those enemies are not messing around in Loop 3... I could've sworn when I played this in the arcade, the first stage didn't have the stealth-bombery looking ships but rather some ground based enemies with six turrets.

Raiden is as tough as the games from the company it paid homage too, Toaplan.
Raiden III and the Fighters + Viper Phase 1 are the only ones i haven't played
