  • I got fed up with welding in awkward spots with no light and not being able to see what I was doing so I made this mod to my welding mask. I used stuff I had laying around. An 18650 lithium ion battery, a charger / usb board and some 5v LED strip lights. Hands free torch. Can even charge my phone from it if I wanted.

      Ebay or AliExpress
18650 lithium battery (can get from old laptop batteries or vapes or ebike batteries etc)
      5v waterproof led strip
      18650 charger / 5v usb pcb

Very nice. How are you going to protect the lights from sparks, etc.? Maybe some kind of replaceable plastic cover like the mask has?

Thanks, Yeh you are right it does need some sort of protection, a big blob of weld dripped onto the led strip and caught fire recently lol. Still works though.
I have thought about it but it needs to be strong and clear and fire resistant, and I don't really want glass covering it as it might smash.
So I've just come to the conclusion of; keep using it till it breaks, and I'll just peel the old led strip off and stick and solder the new bit back down. Easy.
