I'll be honest. I kind of always enjoyed how excessively long the old animations were. It's the summons. They're powerful enough to deserve being stupidly long and overblown. They new ones are awesome, but they feel really quick.
Oh, totally. I get that. But then, they did give us a skip button. Both for when we and enemies Limit Break. So it's really pretty moot when it comes to the length of animations when theyre skippable. Am I making sense?
To this day Bahamut Fury's animation is still one of my favorite summon attack animations. From the way the damn thing warps in from deep space, the camera angles contrasting its size vs the celestial bodies around it, weaponizing the moon, and then firing a MOON SIZED BEAM INTO THE FUCKING PLANET. I like how the updated version displays the absurd scale of the damage this attack covers.

Don’t really get the hate for the new animations. They capture all the same ideas as the old ones, but more concisely and with more modern graphics and designs. They fit in with the newer, more fast-paced battle system by being flashy, cool, and destructive, but also not overstaying their welcome
Its not that people hate the new animations, it more that they are too short to show their weight. FFVIICC Ifrit even though he is a fire summon needed time to heat up and shows it off, the new one just sets himself on fire and goes out of control rush, where the first one just charges in a straight line after setting himself ablaze. The new looks are fine, just wish that they kept the length of the animations, you could skip the animations in the PSP version after viewing them once, which to say that they knew the animations were long, but gave players a choice to skip them when needed, not all battles in the game are extremely fast, some fights can take time and planning, stupid pots.
As much I love the new ones as the design is trying to be as accurate to the original ff7, it is quite bummer we didn't get the old ones fmv in it. Been looking forward to seeing it in UHD 60fps though.
The Bahamut Fury contrast is interesting. They changed it from the Exaflare being reflected off the actual moon to firing _through_ a moon that was apparently (if you go frame by frame at the start of the Reunion version) created by Bahamut Fury for this specific attack. It's a cool attack either way but that's neat.
Some of the summons don't differ much (like Odin or Bahamut), but I still prefer the old ones, especially Ifrit. Old Ifrit is a badass. Too bad the new summons are so short. There was an option to skip the cutscenes in old FF too if you were tired of them (you just had to view them once, if I remember correctly), so the length was never an issue.

The biggest issue with Crisis Core Reunion's versions is that they're _WAY_ too sped up. You don't get to appreciate the designs because they're always going at full speed, like they're the old animations set at 1.5x with half of the animation cut out. The _whole point_ of the summons as cutscenes animations is that it's about the build-up and crescendo up to unleashing their crazy powerful attack. Not to mention in-game, the option to skip the cutscene is constantly present, so why bother to make them so much more visually impressive but undercut that by making them all shorter and far less impressive?
to be fair that was also one thing the original kinda fucked up the longer you played, as you eventually got to the point where summons were less effective than just standard attacks. So having a 1 minute long summon cutscene to sit through only for it to do as much damage as one swing of your sword was pretty rough, especially due to the random nature of it.
@@silverhand9965 Yeah, but in _Crisis Core Reunion_ there's literally a "skip" indicator displayed in the bottom right during the entire animation sequence, and you can jump over the whole cinematic and just display the impact, so there's less than no reason to have shortened those sequences.

Well to be fair, summons tend to be over the top attacks, the build up is the draw to some players. It shows that the summon is no longer holding back, and is taking things seriously. In FFX the summons fight for the party when summoned and you can control them, when you use their overdrive, which is the summon's super attack it has weight. In FFVIII, the build up sequence had a skill reason, each summon, save cerburus, had a skill to learn called boost, it boosted the power of the summon but only during the build up part of the attack, after it starts the animation of the attack part you could no longer boost. A lot of players that started back with FVII tend to enjoy the over the top summons, I'm disapointed that they made great designs for the summons but made them a blink and you miss the animation.
