How to Reset Forgotten USERNAME and PASSWORD in Kali Linux

I always stopped at init=/bin/bash and then updated my password and it still didn't open my Kali Linux but then came across your video and that grep -i "\b$\b" /etc/Shadow really helped me find my correct username which i didn't realise was as necessary as the passwd to log in. Thank you sir 🙏🏾🇳🇬

When youre on the grub start page and you have to press "e" you need to make sure you're pressing e on the "Kali GNU/Linux" option and NOT the "Advanced options for Kali GNU/Linux" option. Then for me i saw a line saying "ro quiet splash" which i changed to "rw quiet splash init=/bin/bash" then you should be able to do ctrl+x and give it a moment then it will take you to the command line so you can edit your password like in the video. @@kasyahsydnor6944 👍

Method 1: Reset via GRUB Bootloader
1. Restart your laptop and when the GRUB menu appears, press E on the keyboard to edit the boot parameters.
2. Find the line starting with linux, and look for a part that mentions ro. Replace ro with rw init=/bin/bash. This will boot into single-user mode with a root shell.
3. Press Ctrl+X to boot with these parameters.
4. The system will now boot into a root shell. Once the terminal appears, use the following command to reset the password:
passwd your_username
Replace your_username with the actual username. If you're not sure, you can list users by typing ls /home/.
5. Enter the new password twice when prompted.
6. After setting the new password, type the following command to reboot your system:
exec /sbin/init
7. Your system should restart, and you can log in with the new password.

if you dont get type again rw init=/bash/bin then you got, somtimes beacuse of the name they dont get to go the terminal, and if you type ls /home it will show saved user name so , it is easy way i know,

Hey, i am currently logged out and when i try to retrieve the username however the terminal interprets the symbol \ as # and \ is needed for the command, i also cannot copy paste and im using the newest version 7.0.18. If anyone knows if this bug is with the newer version it will be very helpful

From Denmark, Use Kali Kali it works.
I also just tried to install KALI Linux, everything runs fine until it boots up, then it asks for a password and a username. ??
I don't know what that is supposed to be.
And the KALI version I install doesn't come up with this menu when I try to reboot.
But I don't know what the password is supposed to be, because it hasn't been asked to create a password.
It just says "Your password is incorrect".
