All I can say is, WOW!!! What an incredible transformation.... everything is beautiful. My favorite part is the curved back portion with the tapestry and the succulents with the orange flowers on the tall stocks. That area is really something spectacular to see.

I like the back walkway that gives a 360° view and access to sit in some shade. The micro-climates time will tell long term approach is so important, along with the knowledge that moving succulents and cacti is easier than many less hardy plants.

I am admiring how you always challenge your own self and work with different materials. The blooming echinopsis and the aloe blooms add such colour. Loved the mamalarias. Love how the place is transformed. Magic happens.

We avoid sunburn in San Antonio by laying a small piece of screen over the plant. The spines/prickly bits hold on to the screen until the plant has acclimated. Then the screen is easily lifted off. I've never sunburned a plant, even those I move in the middle of the summer.

I live in an 8b/9a Louisiana. It’s tough for succulents and cacti, however there are some survivors. I have luck with agaves, in particular agave quadricolor and americana. Beaucarnia recurvata makes it with protection during the hardest freezes (below 25). Yuccas are great, especially yucca elephantipes. I have tender succulents survive under a covered patio until we hit in the low 20s, then I bring them in. I do have a small patch of jades in a protected spot that never gets protected and survives. Opuntias are very hardy, along with hesperaloe. Aloe Vera can survive our freezes usually pretty well. There was a huge huge stand of aloe Vera in my neighborhood for many years with zero protection. It does burn in hard freezes however. Mammillaria do fine usually with protection below 25. As for succulent compatibles, I can grow bougainvillea, grevillea, bottlebrushes, birds of paradise, agapanthus, and podocarpus all in ground. And of course, palms! We have a nice selection of species that can survive here, like California fan palms, dates, Mediterranean fan palms, jelly palms, and sabal palms. Queens and Pygmy dates are iffy in my area with freezes.

What a transformation and what a variety of plants!! The owner is going to spend many hours (when it’s not too hot 🥵) just taking it all in.
Wanted to ask if there was a concern about watering the trees and how that might impact the cacti 🌵 (cactuses?)?
Welcome Trevor and fantastic job DFS team!!! 🙌🏻

I’m loving it so far, lovely job! 🙂 but I think the bed with the tapestry is missing some bright color foliage esp once the flowers of the succulents die out. Maybe an aloe Cameroni that will give some red. I think it really needs some red/orange/pink color plants, a few colorful mangave. Most of the succulents in the tapestry is too green/blue only. For the cactus beds, maybe install some colorful talavera pots/creatures

Suggestion for agave that has a little burn, turn it by 90 degrees so the burnt sides are towards the path and not visible when you are standing on the path

Love, love the cacti! However the succulents are just as pretty! Do not understand why not more people start using cacti, succulents and rubble in their gardens. Water is the most precious thing in the world and we should not waste it on expansive lawns!

Is there any predictability on the timing of cactus blooming? Will they repeat bloom anytime soon or is it usually more once a year? I realize the answer may vary by variety, but wondered if there’s a generalization that applies. Love this project.
