I've been a Polaris fan ever since I bought my first Sportsman back in 2000, when the RZR first came out it was the SxS to have that was until 2016 when Yamaha introduced the YZX, and now the Can-Am Maverick X3. While I still love the Polaris it's dated Big Time and compared to the YZX & X3 it looks like a box with wheels. The Maverick X3 is totally BAD ASS with a wicked body stance (the way every high performance UTV should look & be) and a outrageous amount of suspension travel, more like a trophy truck. The RZR Turbo may be "slightly" quicker then the X3 but on a twisty track the X3 makes up for it in the handling as the RZR is top heavy and waaaaay to much body roll, in the NON turbo versions the YZX is the clear winner. Another advantage the YZX has over the other two is the 5 speed transmission which allows you to utilize all the engines HP & TQ without fear of burning out or breaking the belt. The YZX with the clutch less feature giving you lightening fast shifts using the paddle shifters while keeping both hand on the wheel and your left foot for braking. Of the 3 the X3 has the nicest cockpit even though there's a lot of plastic, sitting in it gives you a sports car feel. The ONLY thing Can-Am needs to do to make the X3 better is to have a transmission like the YZX, the it would clearly be the hands down winner in all aspects looks, handling and performance. As for the YZX Yamaha needs to have a factory turbo version, they are getting eaten alive by everyone else. The YZX's engine is basically the same as the one found in their Vector snowmobiles you can buy a aftermarket turbo kit making 155 HP (on the snowmobiles you can go all the way up to 300 HP) but you shouldn't have to it should be a factory option, also a little lower stance wouldn't hurt either. Polaris you just need to scrap the outdated RZR and start over, taking clues from both Can-Am and Yamaha, being "slightly" quicker only goes so far when you're top heavy and can't utilize that quickness or speed when it feels like you're about to flip it, also being a BUTT ASS UGLY box isn't winning any points either.

A slow speed aka rock crawling comparison would also be amazing here.
Ditch the belt drives and go to pure shaft driven aspects on both. Beef up axles front and rear with diffs too. Add some weight up front to counter balance weight to power ration for lift and lower the cage on razor. Problems solved and pure power and torque to the wheels. It would be a wonderful experience set up that way.
Lame. I sold my 2016 XPT to buy my x3 RS. No contest. Both cars were frame-up custom builds and with $12k in parts into the RZR the x3 was still a better car bone stock. I will give one small edge to RZR on rock crawling abilities out of the box. In every other way it can't compete. Now I have a 185hp tuned x3 with Halo locker on 32s and it's unstoppable. That said, I like all the machines. Anything that gets you out of the house and riding is a good machine in my book.
These all are just a rip off. LOL If I spent the same money as you, and took my time looking around. I bet I could find a trail rated and built ,jacked up on 38's or better Bronco/Blazer/Landcruiser real 4X4 with a v8 pushing serious hp for equal or a better price.
They were cool toys back when same priced as a sled. Now at over 2ok and closer to the same size as a jeep, its not worth it when you can buy a 4x4 with a ton of money sunk in to it for a better price.

Shades shady False equivalency, the bronco cant not do what these sxs can, the sxs can do all the bronco can.
For the price you may be able to find a truck that can compare however, one thing to consider is durability. These things are much less likely to break and much cheaper to repair than a full sized truck.
ergonomics, fit and finish and instrumentation are easily way better on the x3 compared to the rzr and should have been 5 stars
I wound still would rather a CVT transmission with its $80 belt over the $250 clutch plates on the YXZ1000!.. Plus I like having a low range instead of wishing 1st was lower, especially if larger then stock tires are used!
X3 IMO so pretty to the eyes. Not to mention rzr recall recall recall.
can am didn't copy the RZR and improve on it, they made the wildcat that cat should have came out with 3 years ago

I bet Polaris has something new in development. They bought Hammerhead recently and they make go karts. I would say they are going to come out with a go kart/sandrail hybrid to combat the newer lower-profile/low center of gravity UTVs put out by Yamaha and Can-Am.
That X3 is probably good for the open desert but is illegal in my neighborhood on the trails. Plus the 3 wheel drive viscolok is sub-par in the mud. Lots of mud and tight trails through the forest over here where I ride in the midwest USA. So basically, this comparison should be taken with a grain of salt since your needs may vary. You have to love the millions of hop-up parts for rzr from the aftermarket.
They need to make both of these with either a paddle shift DCT transmission or a full on manual.
I'd prefer the rzr for not being as wide for the trails. Being wider is nicer for performance but in a trail its not always better.
All depends on what your riding style is. All we have around south Louisiana and east Texas is wooded trails and mud. Any open sand terrain will be a sand bar along the river. So down here the rzr xpt dominates the x3. Don't get me wrong I love the x3 also, it's a awesome machine but until they do a shootout of these two in all different terrains I'll stick to my xpt.

Soo... the X3 wins out on performance. But the RZR can cargo better. Yup, that makes them equal ;) heh
"The Rzr feels tippy in the corners compared to the X3 and requires more skill to keep pace" he says. But we can't mark it the winner because there's some feedback in the steering wheel when we turn and break hard at the same time.

It's a pretty dead give away when the commentator says it requires more skill to keep pace with the X3 because the RZR feels narrow and tippy compared to the planted X3 - that one is an overall better performer. So, in other words - The RZR has to try very hard to keep up with the X3

My local Yamaha dealer is dropping a turbo on their new S x S and offering a full warranty. Sold. Why? Because it's a true stick shift. With a true third pedal or a sport paddle shifter.
Hell ya I own 2016 yxz even know its not a turbo the build quality is above and beyond and the real tranny makes it such a better driving experience than any other sxs most guys i know and ride with have the polaris general or razor 1000 and I crush them all , not even in the same category (my opinion) We ride in New Hampshire yes east coast riding tight ,rocky whatever having a foot clutch and shifting gives a real connection , everyone says its just for desert and pits BS matter of fact Im going to do it all over again and buy a 2019 ss they are uncommon here but thats one of the reasons I got it, name 1 thing that yamaha makes that isnt sweet, polaris and can am (sheep) YXZ(wolf)
It's funny been working on side x side and atv for over 25 years if you want something that is going to brake buy a Polaris... I fix them all the time don't get me wrong I like the work but I just tell it the way I see it sorry....
Lee Glass you fix them all the time because there are 5x's more RZR's out there than any other brand. There are more in circulation.
Lee Glass Polaris owns the sidexside segment in units sold, there are probably 100 RZRs for every single maverick out there. I may be exaggerating but you get my point. Therefore you will see more Polaris' in the shop.
Lol now let's watch our language... sorry I tell it the way I see it.. in northern Canada were the weather gets nasty.., and we have lots of all makes of atv' s the Polaris is always broken and I like that because it brings me work to my shop also you get fast working all the polarizes...

The Polaris engine runs better with a nice blast of holeshot power.
The X3 is way more fun to drive and a superior driver position.

One of the least informative reviews I have ever watched. I do agree they should have compared the Polaris to the narrower xds Maverick x3. The x3 would have still been a clear winner based on the measurements in the review. Heck the 2016 turbo Maverick would have won with these measurements. Maybe not so if they tested it on rocks or mud. Terrible review.
Yeap sand flea review only.. the RZR outperforms the X3 in all terrains, the XRS should stand out but baja has shown the XRS cant win in a race with the rzrs..

I had a Polaris 570 and it only lasted about two to three months without something breaking on it

everyone knows the maverick r1s is slower than the x3 ds..i guarantee the d's will be even with the razor for power .the x3 rs comes with the suspension 3 inches lower than factory ride height ..i raised my x3 3 inches just to come close to 14 inches ground clearance. that made it handle way better.

So here's the outcome. Buy either one, you'll have fun.
Having driven both in 4 seaters, the X3 blows the RZR away in the terrain I was in. Sandy river bottom with big whoops in the straights. The X3 was way better planted and stable and able to maintain a higher speed than the RZR. I'm not buying the RZR is quicker either because it isn't.

With all do respect, this is the most biased channel to Polaris, I don't know why always the can-am loses, is it not clear that the maverick is a monster of a machine compared to that outdated looks and specs of the Polaris, i have been watching this channel for its good content. rzr has a shitty roll cage its a bolt together were the x3 is a solid wielded cage. roll over test x3 would do way better protecting the rider and in other camparsion videos x3 is way better put together and seating is way more comfortable. 1st mod on the rzr most people do is a seat upgrade .

What a terribly biased review. Based on their description alone Handling should have been given to X3. And Ergonomics, Instrumentation and Fit & Finish are all stronger points on X3. Come on! Real final score should have been at least 57 vs 53 for X3.
I would bet they initially given 5 stars to CanAm to all these points above but later removed them so CanAm wouldn't win. Best they could do is a TIE!!! LMAO

UTV Driver is extremely biased towards Polaris. I'm willing to bet they are financed by Polaris because every review I see from them always find an excuse to rate a Polaris higher than competition even though it isn't even close in some models.

I think you UTV guys still have sand in your eyes... if you look at both units and try to compare them you should do it on the same playing feild one unit is a race unit and the other is a utility unit, the can am is a engineering mater peace the Polaris is a mud / tight trail unit. The can am has superior ground clearance and week travel plus it is engineered for the race track also look at the construction in parts compared to the Polaris the can am is a power house. The Polaris is a lightweight unit in all aspects. Also the Polaris is top heave with the Mass of weight up height, the can am is made low to keep the centre of gravity low .. its like comparing a motocross rider with a Pedel bike rider sorry, Polaris will have to build a unit to try and stay with the can am.....

The maverick is a sweet ride but it seems that alls they did was copy polaris rzr and improved in it.
