I'd say Eddie and Alex did alright for two kids who emigrated from the Netherlands with their parents. Eddie was music royalty, but by all accounts was super down to Earth. He’s loving being just a “car guy” here. No, “Hey! You’re Eddie Van Halen! Play guitar!” Just “wow! Cool car man!” And he’s so excited to show it to an enthusiast.
I just thought about it , around the same time this video was posted Ed started selling many of his cars and giving away a lot of his guitars for Mister Holland's Opus Foundation . Those are the signs he knew how bad his health was . He was getting ready to die .

What date was this and where? Ed was being so nice here. That car is over a million bucks at least and to him it’s a knock around car. Haha. Some collector bought it and may have painted it green :( I met him backstage and at soundcheck back in 2004. Atlanta. He was so nice. But at that time he was very drunk and unhappy. He was my hero. Im so sad that he died. RIP.
I wonder if the guys even know it's Eddie. They could have just been in awe of the car and not realized who it was. I met Ed twice, and each time he was like this. Just a guy. Which made him even cooler to me. It humanized him. Made him slightly less "God", but oh, so much cooler.
That's all he wanted to be . He hated fame even though he loved his fans . He'd be happy to give you an autograph , BUT just an autograph . And if you were a musician he treated you more like family kinda .

My high school friend's dad had one of these sitting in his garage for years. I thought it was a dump. It was black with a V12 with single carburetors for each cylinder. He would start it up occasionally and it sounded very mechanical. About 20 years later i found iut how rare the car was and was shocked it was a 1 million dollar car. We used to sit in it and pretend we were picking up girls at high school. 😅
I know the legend of the Panama sorry, but what car sound did they use at the beginning of Hot For Teacher? In Ted Templemen’s book, he says the first five seconds of HFT are a sports car motor and that they had to work really hard to tune Alex’s Simmons drums to match the sound. I realize by the time of recording 1984 the Ted wasn’t as involved, but why would he share this story if it wasn’t true? Anyone know? I’m to lazy right now to look it up 😂
From what I understand, I believe they just tried to see if they could get the sound of the drums to be similar to that of a dragster. If you’ll search on TH-cam “drag car idling”, you’ll see what I mean. Or hear what I mean that is lol
Thanks for posting! If you have a second, we recorded a cover of Van Halen. As fellow music lovers, we'd love if you'd check it out. It's on our page. Don't go too hard on us :)
Somebody who values the history of Lamborghini more than EVH...His name is John from Curated in Miami..He was planning on restoring it back to its original color (green). I think that's unwise considering the value of the car would be much higher keeping it just the way Eddie drove it..I know I would.
