Honestly, I've been watching all these video reactions and it seems crazy to me how you talk about how Lauren acts with Heidi, yet say nothing about how Spencer acts with Heidi. You can see he's so manipulative, he knows Heidi is at her weakest with Lauren and he takes advantage of it by making Heidi feel bad about actually trying with Lauren. I always thought he was jealous and didn't stop until he fully ruined their friendship. If you look at Heidi before and after dating Spencer, she's a different person, red flag right there. Keep it up, guys! Love watching your videos
I think at the time Spencer was a bit of a cartoonish villain, but watching this so many years later and having seen his behaviour mirrored in friends relationships and the damage it caused makes it uncomfortable to watch play out. I think with age and the benefit of hindsight it also makes you question the producers duty of care towards Heidi, and whether they even offered some support or guidance, as although it was 'good TV' she's still a real person and not a fictional character. Just my take anyway...🤷🏻♀️

I think it would be good to mention sometimes when behaviours could be seen as red flags in a relation, especially for the people watching who go through that and think it's normal. However, Whitney mentioned before to be friends with all of them so probably they don't feel in the position to judge them harshly for something that happened long ago. When it comes to duty of care, I believe that before there wasn't the awareness of today. Think about reality like RHOBH where they capitalized on the addiction issues of a cast member.

I think it's so weird how so many people blame Lauren. I'm sorry but there is no way I'd like Spencer if I were Lauren. He intentionally did things to get under her skin and Heidi just let it happen. Heidi even sometimes encouraged it. I understand that Heidi needed her space but you don't just dump you friends and think people aren't going to feel some type of way. Yeah Brody confirmed that didn't happen & you can clearly see him wearing a completely different outfit in the car than he did in the club. But the kiss between him & Jen did happen & did hurt Lauren, even though the Lauren-Brody dating was a fake storyline she had really been interested in him & Jen & Heidi knew that.
I hate how Heidi compares Jason and Spencer. Spencer was mean towards Lauren, and openly didn’t like her and caused the divide between H and L. Jason was abusive to Lauren and had drug and alcohol problems, you can’t really compare. Well I think anyway.

We italians love fashion and beautiful women...and was useful for learn informal English in Italy the high school is divided by areas like : languages,sciences ,ingeniering ,vocational school and so on...I had chosen languages in highschool and university and now I am a good speaker and a happy person. Not only an elegant gentleman.
loved it for LARN of course....then whitney came along BONUS! In all honesty i loved the banter and relationship that Larn and whitney had...the support you guys had for one another in the workplace. So here for it!After Lauren left I stopped watching it. Loved the drama too...the way relationships formed and broke off...it was relatable in so many ways. The ups and downs. Found it insightful.
I think Heidi did everything to make Spencer-LC even more awkward and hopeless than it needed to be at this point. Like, there was no need to bring your roses that your bf gave you and give them to your friend as if he gave them to her. There was also no need to ask your friend if she wants to go to Santa-Barbara (to be a third wheel). There's also no need to always complain to Spencer about how you have to do this and that to keep your friendship.
But how would Heidi know what to do? Her bf & bff/roommate don't like each other & he isn't just a bf, Heidi is in love with him. Of course she wants her best friend to get along with him & give her approval. At the end of the day she's building a family with Spencer. LC should've said, I don't think he's right for you, but I'll support you & you can come to me if it doesn't work, but I hope good things happen for you. I think LC eventually did that, but it's something you learn at their age when you go from prioritizing friendships to planning for marriage.

Ok but when filming a show you need storyline and so they will use whatever they have to flesh out that storyline. That includes saying stuff you may normally keep to yourself. If things were already said on camera then by spencer or lauren then they are gonna see it at some point anyways. If its said on camera then its all open for discussion.

I think before the show even started Lauren and Heidi had a certain plan and as soon as the show started filming Heidi just did whatever. She didn’t know her THAT well since they were only friends for a year or so so maybe she felt that Heidi was taking advantage a little from the beginning. Then when Spencer came in it became clearly opportunistic and used the show for their own agenda. I don’t agree completely with Lauren’s behavior on every instance but I think things were going on behind the scenes we were unaware of. They were also like 20 so yeah there’s gonna be some immaturity.
Brody and Lauren during this season were a real thing. They both had an attraction to each other and she liked him. When they say the relationship wasn’t real, that in regards to later seasons, particularly season 3 when she leaves to Paris.
If I liked a guy and thought he was cute and we had a little thing/crush/back and forth going on, ESPECIALLY AT THIS AGE, and my best friend of however many years (Jenn Bunny can you please figure out the math for us) tried to swoop in, while simultaneously telling our mutual friends how hot she thought he was behind my back, I would be pretty choked haha. Of course, Lauren and Brody weren’t in a REAL relationship at any point in those previous episodes but I do think Lauren is valid in thinking that Jenn was in the wrong over this and not being a good friend to her. I wouldn’t try to terminate my friendship over this but it would be a thing to definitely get upset over... personally

Okay HUGE fan both of you and of the reaction videos (and podcast etc)! Long time lurker, first time commenter, but I just have to weigh in on the Lauren and Heidi debate. THIS IS SO LONG and maybe I should go to grad school instead of coming up with The Hills theories but here we are. Whit & Timmy, I think you’re both a little bit right here. My interpretation is that Heidi and Lauren are “new best friends” born out of circumstance. They met in SF where they, presumably, didn’t like school and shared a dream of going to LA and going to FIDM together, etc. Then I assume Lauren got offered the show and wanted to bring Heidi into it with her. I’m sure Lauren had feels about being the center of a TV show (Laguna was a bit more ensemble), in a city where she didn’t know many people, and being able to do it with her new bestie Heidi gave her a sidekick that made it even more exciting. We’ve all been in a situation where you bond with someone over something specific (disliking a job, etc), but the friendship doesn’t hold water outside of that situation. It seems like Lauren started getting disenchanted with Heidi from Day 1 - Heidi quits school, complains about work, wants to party all the time. Everything with Spencer is just icing on the cake, Heidi choosing this person who initially treated her poorly and that Lauren doesn’t get along with solidifies that their “new life in LA” isn’t going to be what they pictured. Lauren has also talked about feeling pressured by producers to get a boyfriend, etc, and maybe that was more intense if she wasn’t doing scenes with Heidi. There was less Lauren-specific content, and, also given that she seems to value loyalty, I could see her feeling betrayed that Heidi is benefitting from being on the show with or without Lauren being her friend. There’s an added layer beyond your friend choosing her boyfriend over you, it’s like going on the journey you set out to do together with him instead. SO I feel like Lauren’s feelings are real - she’s upset about everything with Heidi but maybe less about losing Heidi as a person but more losing the idea or dream of what they set out to do together. BONUS TAKE: Brody and Jen I think there could be some show/production-specific drama here that we don’t get to see. Lauren’s said that she and Brody didn’t actually date but I do think (?) she’s said she had a bit of a crush on him. Regardless, if that was supposed to be her storyline, her and Brody being a thing, I could still see her feeling like Jen made her look stupid on TV by trying to hook up with him. OR, maybe everything happened with Jen BEFORE Lauren and Brody ultimately decided they didn’t really mesh.

I know I'm 3 years late for the comments for this series (per usual), but I heard that the reason why Lauren cut Jen Bunney off was because she sold info of Lauren to the tabloids during the Laguna Series; this came out during the Jen and Brody debacle. The reason why Lauren forgave Heidi for her part in the Jen/Brody debacle was because she ratted out Jen (at the time Jen blamed Lo Bosworth so her and Heidi wouldnt get cut off and be involved in The Hills fame) but Heidi played it out and was ALSO involved. Heidi during Laguna Season 2, lived with Lauren and her family. Heidi was the one giving the info to Jen Bunney.

Honestly, I've been watching all these video reactions and it seems crazy to me how you talk about how Lauren acts with Heidi, yet say nothing about how Spencer acts with Heidi. You can see he's so manipulative, he knows Heidi is at her weakest with Lauren and he takes advantage of it by making Heidi feel bad about actually trying with Lauren. I always thought he was jealous and didn't stop until he fully ruined their friendship. If you look at Heidi before and after dating Spencer, she's a different person, red flag right there. Keep it up, guys! Love watching your videos
I think they dont say much on Spencer coz he abuses them online.
I think at the time Spencer was a bit of a cartoonish villain, but watching this so many years later and having seen his behaviour mirrored in friends relationships and the damage it caused makes it uncomfortable to watch play out. I think with age and the benefit of hindsight it also makes you question the producers duty of care towards Heidi, and whether they even offered some support or guidance, as although it was 'good TV' she's still a real person and not a fictional character. Just my take anyway...🤷🏻♀️

I think it would be good to mention sometimes when behaviours could be seen as red flags in a relation, especially for the people watching who go through that and think it's normal. However, Whitney mentioned before to be friends with all of them so probably they don't feel in the position to judge them harshly for something that happened long ago.
When it comes to duty of care, I believe that before there wasn't the awareness of today. Think about reality like RHOBH where they capitalized on the addiction issues of a cast member.

I think it's so weird how so many people blame Lauren. I'm sorry but there is no way I'd like Spencer if I were Lauren. He intentionally did things to get under her skin and Heidi just let it happen. Heidi even sometimes encouraged it. I understand that Heidi needed her space but you don't just dump you friends and think people aren't going to feel some type of way. I truly think Lauren was just trying to look out for Heidi. Lauren has her faults but to act as if she had no reason to be upset is ridiculous.

I hate how Heidi compares Jason and Spencer. Spencer was mean towards Lauren, and openly didn’t like her and caused the divide between H and L. Jason was abusive to Lauren and had drug and alcohol problems, you can’t really compare. Well I think anyway.

We italians love fashion and beautiful women...and was useful for learn informal English in Italy the high school is divided by areas like : languages,sciences ,ingeniering ,vocational school and so on...I had chosen languages in highschool and university and now I am a good speaker and a happy person. Not only an elegant gentleman.
loved it for LARN of course....then whitney came along BONUS! In all honesty i loved the banter and relationship that Larn and whitney had...the support you guys had for one another in the workplace. So here for it!After Lauren left I stopped watching it. Loved the drama too...the way relationships formed and broke off...it was relatable in so many ways. The ups and downs. Found it insightful.

I think Heidi did everything to make Spencer-LC even more awkward and hopeless than it needed to be at this point. Like, there was no need to bring your roses that your bf gave you and give them to your friend as if he gave them to her. There was also no need to ask your friend if she wants to go to Santa-Barbara (to be a third wheel). There's also no need to always complain to Spencer about how you have to do this and that to keep your friendship.
Yeah I don't think she should have went to Spencer and told him that Lauren didn't like him. It only made it worse.
But how would Heidi know what to do? Her bf & bff/roommate don't like each other & he isn't just a bf, Heidi is in love with him. Of course she wants her best friend to get along with him & give her approval. At the end of the day she's building a family with Spencer. LC should've said, I don't think he's right for you, but I'll support you & you can come to me if it doesn't work, but I hope good things happen for you. I think LC eventually did that, but it's something you learn at their age when you go from prioritizing friendships to planning for marriage.

To me, I think Heidi was trying to do the right thing and try to hold on to her friendship with Lauren. I think she genuinely loved Lauren as a friend-but in Lauren’s eyes, Heidi was too far gone with her love over Spencer and she was just not going to keep repeating herself
Ok but when filming a show you need storyline and so they will use whatever they have to flesh out that storyline. That includes saying stuff you may normally keep to yourself. If things were already said on camera then by spencer or lauren then they are gonna see it at some point anyways. If its said on camera then its all open for discussion.
I feel Spencer was always stirring the pot or trying to create issues with their friendship. So sad

I think before the show even started Lauren and Heidi had a certain plan and as soon as the show started filming Heidi just did whatever. She didn’t know her THAT well since they were only friends for a year or so so maybe she felt that Heidi was taking advantage a little from the beginning. Then when Spencer came in it became clearly opportunistic and used the show for their own agenda. I don’t agree completely with Lauren’s behavior on every instance but I think things were going on behind the scenes we were unaware of.
They were also like 20 so yeah there’s gonna be some immaturity.

Brody and Lauren during this season were a real thing. They both had an attraction to each other and she liked him. When they say the relationship wasn’t real, that in regards to later seasons, particularly season 3 when she leaves to Paris.

If I liked a guy and thought he was cute and we had a little thing/crush/back and forth going on, ESPECIALLY AT THIS AGE, and my best friend of however many years (Jenn Bunny can you please figure out the math for us) tried to swoop in, while simultaneously telling our mutual friends how hot she thought he was behind my back, I would be pretty choked haha. Of course, Lauren and Brody weren’t in a REAL relationship at any point in those previous episodes but I do think Lauren is valid in thinking that Jenn was in the wrong over this and not being a good friend to her. I wouldn’t try to terminate my friendship over this but it would be a thing to definitely get upset over... personally

Did you guys ever read Lauren’s books she wrote? “L.A Candy”, I think I was. It does say the producers would text them topics to talk about. Interestingly it also said they originally hired Whitney’s character so that Lauren had someone to talk to about what was going on in her life.

Okay HUGE fan both of you and of the reaction videos (and podcast etc)! Long time lurker, first time commenter, but I just have to weigh in on the Lauren and Heidi debate. THIS IS SO LONG and maybe I should go to grad school instead of coming up with The Hills theories but here we are.
Whit & Timmy, I think you’re both a little bit right here. My interpretation is that Heidi and Lauren are “new best friends” born out of circumstance. They met in SF where they, presumably, didn’t like school and shared a dream of going to LA and going to FIDM together, etc.
Then I assume Lauren got offered the show and wanted to bring Heidi into it with her. I’m sure Lauren had feels about being the center of a TV show (Laguna was a bit more ensemble), in a city where she didn’t know many people, and being able to do it with her new bestie Heidi gave her a sidekick that made it even more exciting.
We’ve all been in a situation where you bond with someone over something specific (disliking a job, etc), but the friendship doesn’t hold water outside of that situation. It seems like Lauren started getting disenchanted with Heidi from Day 1 - Heidi quits school, complains about work, wants to party all the time. Everything with Spencer is just icing on the cake, Heidi choosing this person who initially treated her poorly and that Lauren doesn’t get along with solidifies that their “new life in LA” isn’t going to be what they pictured.
Lauren has also talked about feeling pressured by producers to get a boyfriend, etc, and maybe that was more intense if she wasn’t doing scenes with Heidi. There was less Lauren-specific content, and, also given that she seems to value loyalty, I could see her feeling betrayed that Heidi is benefitting from being on the show with or without Lauren being her friend. There’s an added layer beyond your friend choosing her boyfriend over you, it’s like going on the journey you set out to do together with him instead. SO I feel like Lauren’s feelings are real - she’s upset about everything with Heidi but maybe less about losing Heidi as a person but more losing the idea or dream of what they set out to do together.
BONUS TAKE: Brody and Jen
I think there could be some show/production-specific drama here that we don’t get to see. Lauren’s said that she and Brody didn’t actually date but I do think (?) she’s said she had a bit of a crush on him. Regardless, if that was supposed to be her storyline, her and Brody being a thing, I could still see her feeling like Jen made her look stupid on TV by trying to hook up with him. OR, maybe everything happened with Jen BEFORE Lauren and Brody ultimately decided they didn’t really mesh.

Glad I found this series. My wife and I would watch this when we were young and started dating. It gives us a more in depth look on Whitney since she was more of a low key character in the show. Tim seems funny and approachable. Could definitely drink a beer with that dood!

I know I'm 3 years late for the comments for this series (per usual), but I heard that the reason why Lauren cut Jen Bunney off was because she sold info of Lauren to the tabloids during the Laguna Series; this came out during the Jen and Brody debacle. The reason why Lauren forgave Heidi for her part in the Jen/Brody debacle was because she ratted out Jen (at the time Jen blamed Lo Bosworth so her and Heidi wouldnt get cut off and be involved in The Hills fame) but Heidi played it out and was ALSO involved. Heidi during Laguna Season 2, lived with Lauren and her family. Heidi was the one giving the info to Jen Bunney.
