I feel like Trauma Center, Infinite Space, Hotel Dusk, 999, and Lock's Quest are pretty well known but I literally had never even heard of the rest of the games on the list until now. Nice list
Well they are definitely known more than some of the other games but they are still not that popular looking at the bigger picture and comparing them to other games. Also I am glad that you enjoyed the video and I hope you found couple of new gems you can add to your back catalog!
You weren’t lying when you said _hidden_ gems. I’ve been looking at hidden gem lists for the DS for a while and most of these weren’t in any of the other videos. Good work fella.
Glad to see Theresia mentioned! I feel like it deserves a bit more attention given how unique it is, and how nice some of its songs and illustrations are.
SOO thankful you gave theresia some attention! You are like the first guy to do this. Thank you so much for giving light to one of my favorite horror games ❤
@@Everything-Wii Hey no problem! I would love to give more games a spot light but I can't do 1 hour long videos so I limit myself to my usual top 15 format. I am glad you liked the video, if there is a game you didn't know about I would also highly, highly recommend to check these games out. 😊
Great Video! You know what I love about your channel? If you say hidden gem the games you show really ARE hidden gems! I don't know any of these games you mentioned haha. Wish I'd own a DS to check them out.
Thanks a lot! ❤️ And yeah if I do a hidden gem video it would do me a disservice if I pick games everyone knows. That's also the fun of these videos and why people come here 😊
Sick video man! So happy to see 999 on this list. I had no idea there was a Death Note game on DS, hello??? And also I wanna get that Rhapsody remaster on Nintendo Switch at some point as well. Excellent video, you put everything together really well! 👏
The DS also had many licensed games what never came to the west, there is also a D. Gray Man visual novel style of game what never came to the west (but you can play it in English there is a fan translation), sadly I found Lux Pain to be the better visual novel, so that game didn't make the cut.
If you loved Izuna LOTUN, you'll love Izuna 2 TUNR even more. You can play as someone else besides Izuna such as her coworkers, the first game's bosses and that young girl in the first game's village. You can also bring 2 characters instead of 1. And looks like she also appears in Rondo of Sword. I mention this since Rondo of Sword is also on the list.
awesome list, i just got my 3ds modded and was looking for some games i’ve never played before so i have added some of these to my own list to be downloaded :)
Rhapsody on the DS is kind of a really weird game due to its history. It's a port/remake of a game that originally came out on the PS1, but in that original version, it was actually a tactical strategy RPG in the same style as FF Tactics or Disgaea (same studio that made Disgaea, in fact). But then when it came to the DS, they took out the original gameplay and turned it into a traditional turn-based RPG.
Probably different because of hardware limitations, the DS is clearly weaker compared to the PS1 and so they remade the game from the ground up for a portable system. I think both versions are good and the story and charming characters are still maintained in both versions.
@@Official_RetroMania Well, there _are_ other tactical RPGs on the DS as well. Final Fantasy Tactics A2, Pokemon Conquest, even Disgaea. I think the change might have been deliberate for a different reason: Rhapsody has two sequels on the PS1, both of them Japan-exclusive, and they're both traditional turn-based RPGs as well.
Unlikely to be expensive, as it's not very sought after. It's not common to see it though, having been released early in the life of the DS, so get it if you see it
@@andreysegura2510 Its not sought after yet. The gameplay is very DS heavy. I don't see it being ported. You hold it like a book and the puzzles have some features like closing the lid of the DS to flip a puzzle over. But it is nintendo published and I think its uncommon.
Both versions are fine. The Vita remastered version is obviously sharper but the pixel art style is also charming and has is own style. It also depends on your preferences, do you like playing your games with your stylus pen if so then go for DS but the analog stick controls are very smooth as well they took they time to remaster that game for modern platforms like the Vita or PS4 or PC or Xbox so whatever platform you choose is fine and the game is a masterpiece so don't worry about the platform.
@@Official_RetroMania Thanks for the input!! I guess I’ll have to try the first 10 minutes of each version and see which I prefer over the other! Currently working my way through Dangonronpa for the first time.
@@hdlts2 I still need to play Danganronpa. I am grinding myself through the Trails series right now in Trails from Zero and I LOVE the series! Sky was a great introduction arc/saga and I am so excited to play the rest and Trails Through Daybreak next year.
@@Official_RetroMania I have a few of the Trails games on PSP and Vita but haven’t jumped in yet. Glad to hear you’re enjoying it!! Danganronpa is the first visual novel game I’ve really played and I’m really enjoying it. Find myself picking it up more often than FF16 which I also started recently
@@hdlts2 Danganronpa is a more interactive game compared to other visual novels so if that's the case you will love the Zero Escape series. Another big favorite of mine when it comes to the more interactive visual novels is Ace Attorney and you should absolutely play them that series is GOATED!
The Detective Conan and Kindaichi Case Files crossover game is a really good VN on the DS that never got an official English release. It also has the same developers as Danganronpa
I Googled it, it seems like there is a fan translation what is cool. Yeah there are many Japanese only games what never came to the west. I grew up with Detective Conan I still remember coming back at home and turning on my TV and watching it, great time!
Touch Detective is a very charming detective game. There is also a 3rd entry called: Touch Detective Rising 3 on the 3DS but sadly that one came out only in Japan, even the Nintendo Switch re-release had only a Japanese re-release. You can however find English fan translations for the 3rd game if you are interested in the series after you played 1 and 2.
Yeah shocking right lol. I was actually arguing also putting Ace Attorney on this list but I think Ace Attorney is was more popular than 999 Zero Escape and would not be considered a "hidden gem game" to be honest I was questioning should I put 999, Hotel Dusk and Lock's Quest in my list at all but I am glad I did even though they are slightly more "known" compared to some other games on this top list.
