    Nice people... BEAUTIFUL machines!!! Every one of these karts are impressive... I had a Dart Chaparral with a Mc91 ... I loved it , and the people who were involved with this great interest... That fella with the (unrestored) Chaparral and the two McCulloch's really brought back some memories... I wish that I still had that machine... Happy Karting Amigo's!!!

    I have an 80's Emik with the KT 100 motor and stinger pipe. 14,000 rpm at 83 mph on the fast sprocket. It's a ripper. I had to sell it one time because I needed money. But I found it for sale years later with a brand new clutch and I bought it back. I had it for the last 20 years and would feel naked without it. I used to run down in Canby Oregon at Pats acres race track. What a cool place. 16 h.p on the race pipe and 12 on the can pipe. I can't wait for better weather. There is a new world class kart track up in Sumas Washington that I can run at on vintage days after I put on a chain guard, ugh. Lol What a great sport and thanks for sharing. My dad had an old twin West Bends kart. And the guy across the street had a lay down shifter kart that ripped and kept me interested. I would love a new shifter kart with 35 h.p but love my oldy.

      I just picked up one back in May for $200! Not the original engine but everything else is there.

    Back in the day. On the older karts, with the motor mounted on the back. We never used an air filter. Didn't start using them until the sidewinder frames became prevalent.

    Karts without front bumpers look dangerous. Gilbertson Racing likes your design Steve. Will we see you two at West Salem soon?

      @PsychosisPC05  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is how all of the original karts began. No real bumpers or nerf bars. You learned really quick to respect the other drivers and how to race without contact, as contact was forbidden and still is at Vintage Karting Association events, unlike modern karting for the most part. In the end our vintage karts and ones that Steve ran in the past were modified to protect your feet as accidents always can happen.

      As to West Salem, Coulee Raceway, we'll likely not run a full season ever again as the vintage racing and modern sprint racing is what we love to do. But never say never. Plus my job, makes it really hard to get there early on Friday nights, when I'm not done until about 5-530 and have to run through traffic to get there. But, we do enjoy running occasional races there. The elimination of the Sportsman Class really took us out of running there. It ran a hard YDS tire that lasts which is great equalizer and quite honestly its a tire we already run on sprint tracks. I would likely show up with 3 year old tires if they had that class. Elimination of LO206 is also not good to us, as we literally run the same engine at modern sprint tracks in the region. Quite frankly I have written the track off for the season, and have not followed what has been going on there lately. - - - Shawn

      I understand. Kart count is way down. Pro Stock had 6 karts for the first time. Normally have only 2 or 3. Where do I find schecule for where you guys race?

      Our facebook page for the vintage karting schedule is the best place, we'll run in 5 different states by the end of the season. facebook.com/Welte-Racing-505442252871148/

    I need advice please *** I'm an retired mechanic and almost done with a vintage style kart,
    I have decided on my king pin and caster angles But what about Ackerman?? Or a forked/T style pitman arm?
    It would be easier to forget Ackerman and build my steering with the tie rods up on top,
    Many Karts dont use Ackerman at all, should I even bother? They seem pretty damned fast,
    (I'm not racing this but I want rip through a turn at an unreasonably high speed, I built it with me low and put the seat just above scraping height)

    • @PsychosisPC05
      @PsychosisPC05  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are not racing, I don't really see the need to mess with Ackerman all that much, especially if you are turning left and right. Set your toe and be done with it.

      The Vintage Karting Association does at all of their events. I believe the East Coast Vintage group does as well at their events.

      @@PsychosisPC05 Loved all of them. Glad everyone snatched them up. Cause you cant hardly find them anywhere. Just the typical chinese junk they have now. I am learning how to spot different frames and steering wheels to help identify what gokart you might have. Yellow Jacket pre Manco. And Manco frames and streakers. The market is flooded with them right now. So i stepped it up a notch and im building a half Yellow Jacket and using a Yerf Dog swing rear end. But it 6 ft 4 in long. With shocks and a stage 1 212cc. Ive found a few vintage Yellow Jacket seats with the covers still on them. But you just cant buy them and cant find no one that makes them.

      They are still out there, we know guys that are finding them often, but its quite the quest and trek to get them usually. You also really need to have some decent knowledge of them, many people overvalue what they are really worth. Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention. Steve literally restored was truly junk with a Harbor Freight tubing bender initially. We now have a much nicer bender as we invested what we made of those initial restorations in new tools.

      @@PsychosisPC05 i went to a tool auction yesterday and got some goodies like a ultra sonic cleaner for carburetor work. And some nice Matco and Snapon wrenches and a craftsman 4 in 1 set drill, sawsal, impact driver and light. And a whole bunch of nuts a bolts and trays for 140.00.
