      If you make your Dancer someone tanky, like Sylvain or something, they not only don't need to be protected, but it opens up whole new worlds of body blocking with your Dancer while giving extra turns to the people behind them, getting frail units out of tricky situations, or just generally being a full front line support package.

    Just going to put something out here. For Conquest, you're best of planning a dancer's action first but not necessarily executing it first. Fates is a game where reliability is king. If you fuck up one thing, you can and WILL eat shit for it. I have hundreds of hours in Fates and even I occasionally misinput an end turn or miss an attack that I really needed to hit. Planning out who you WANT Azura to sing for is usually a great idea! PLEASE do that. However, if you're not doing the busted ass 3 dances a turn strats, I'd definitely recommend waiting on actually having her sing for someone until your actions are all done. A more important situation might arise and you might need to sing for Peri again so she can kill someone or sing for Camilla so she can actually take out that Ninja on Ch 10 that someone missed their attack on.

    When it comes to Fire Emblem Fates I reclass Azura into a Witch until she learns Warp and then reclass her back into a Songstress. Warp allows her to move to the side of any one of yours units no matter how far away they are and Sing to them on the same turn. This allows me the freedom that I don't have to plan my turns around her as she now has effectively infinite movement and it can be beneficial as it allows me to see what the final enemy movement range will be before I move her.

    • @Aureels
      @Aureels 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In conquest, I abuse of the sing system to make Azura my best unit (making her lvl 21 on the Mozu map, before the terrible chapter 10) if you make her learn warp, and the skill that make her play once more when she kill somebody, she kills (lvl 21 you remember?) after that, she wrap, and she make somebody play once more. And if she even have the capacity to clone (from ninjas) her clone can also kill somebody.....
      Recently I discovered that you can make the level up abuse on the before "the choice" making her high level on all your playthrough after that. She can be you killing machine

    • @Aureels
      @Aureels 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Update: after that, if you buy a ton of staff, you can use your lvl 21 azura hurt by a boss to lvling your healers...even Corrin/Kamui if you chose a healer class to him... lvl Corrin to lvl 20 and make it witch or dark pegasus, and enjoy...

    • @andersolson44
      @andersolson44 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      To anyone who's reading this, while warp Azura is a very fun build to run, you only unlock warp at level 25, which is usually achieved around the 2/3rd mark through the game. If you instantly turn Azura into a witch, you'll lose out on your Songstress for the first 2/3rds of the game, and there are better options in every route to use the Witch's Mark. If you really want a warping dancer, it's best advised to wait until level 22 to do so, so that you can grab Warp in as few levels as possible, minimizing the downtime without a Songstress.

    I think one addition is that using mobility-boosters on the dancer in Genealogy of the Holy War is actually a pretty good idea. Rescue-dropping and pair-up don't exist, four-way dancing is pretty crazy, and Canto makes it a lot easier to position your dancer properly. I've even seen people argue that inability to inherit movement-boosters is the main reason Lene is preferable to Laylea. Sigurd/Seliph are really the only other characters I think of as potentially needing the Leg Ring more, and nobody uses the Knight Ring as well as a dancer.

    • @zer0vision891
      @zer0vision891 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The deal with Lene is that if you're trying to make turn counts for ranking or meeting certain objectives, putting the Leg Ring on Seliph is insanely useful, especially if you do a Ch. 6 Seliph-Solo with Paragon.
      Even after you get Lene, Seliph needs to make a lot of detours in gen 2. In Ch 7, you can have Seliph capture Leonster for bonus 1000g for everyone. Ch 9, Seliph needs to seize Luthecia to grab Coirpre then rush back to Kapathogia THEN catch back up to the army at Grutia. Ch 10, Seliph has to make a detour to Rados and catch back up for Miletos, then run after Palmark to grab Tyrfing, then back again to seize Chalphy. And then in Ch 10, you need Seliph to seize Edda, catch up to Dozel, quickly seize Friege to delete Hilda and her army, then run after Velthomer to un-mind-control Julia.
      I found it easier to keep the Leg Ring on Seliph to make those turn counts, though Leg Ring on Lene does open up options for Leif to more effectively use Rescue to make those moves less time-consuming, and makes the army as a whole much stronger.

    • @Mekkkah
      @Mekkkah  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I like Leg/Knight Ring dancer a lot in FE4. There are also maps where I put Celerity on RD Reyson.

    • @14bj337
      @14bj337 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zer0vision891 Some of these detours can be addressed by Return-Warp shenanigans. Like, after Seliph seizes Kapathogia, have Fee/Leif/Nanna Return him, then have Julia/Lana in the home Castle warp him over to Luthecia. A similar volley can be used to get Seliph from Rados back to Chronos in an instant. Still, turns saved in reaching Leonster Castle or getting to Pallmark are to this strategy's credit.

    Fantastic pitfalls video! I was able to share this with some less experienced players who had a lot of trouble, and they found this really helpful.
    I only have a few minor clarifications related to 3H dancing:
    - 14 charm is the benchmark for guaranteeing winning the dancing competition. So anyone who's picking a unit with exactly 13 charm should know that it's possible to lose.
    - Units learn Movement+1 at A+ Riding, not S, but your point still stands - it's a high non-weapon skill rank that students aren't reaching until lategame without excessive grinding
    - Dancer Flayn effectively costs you your most convenient Rescue caster, and a might-boosting Byleth/Seteth adjutant backpack. She can still be convenient because players will not have invested much into her by the dancing competition, and her base charm guarantees a win, but players should be aware of that opportunity cost.

And it feels really badass to pull off a sick dance strat that couldn't be done without a dancer. The last time I can remember that I actively chose not to use a dancer was when I first started playing FE a long time ago. But the last time I was forced to not use a dancer was when I played Crimson Flower for the very first time and made Flayn my dancer. Oh boy, that was a rough run.

    I have really loved using Yuri as my dancer in FE3H, as the combo of sword avoid +20, while having been raised as a sword user (especially trying to go into his Trickster class, which needs Thief certification) and his affinity towards speed builds makes him not only a great dodge tank, but a dancer you don't need to babysit all the time. He's then able to be treated like a combat unit, with the boon of also being able to boost your units with a second move option, and even be a healer in a pinch with his Recovery at C, and the ability to use Silence as well. It was especially helpful in Maddening playthroughs with and without NG+. I mean, I feel like using dancers is just a matter of adjusting strategies. It can be pretty easy to get your dancer into a safe space (or make them a safe place) if you are thinking about it. Often times, even with your dancers low movement stat you'll often catch up by spending time attack enemies - not to mention, you don't have to use your unites full movement stat every move - moving a cavalier 2 steps forward to place them at the edge of your dancers range effectively gives the cav 9 move.

    I honestly use dancers more as I grew up and played more fire emblem. Aside azura and Olivia being broken as dancers who can actually defend themselves or battle themselves then dance with galeforth. The other ones still make excellent support especially if they give buffs to the unit or for Farming arena faster.
    Eliwoods game has the dragon siblings which were probably my favorite dancers not counting Olivia and azura for thier tankiness and easy to level exp so they can not die to a single hit.
    Forgot to mention Faye in echoes. She is incredible and the best healer dancer etc at a very low level being the only female villager so she gets the villager bonus on top of her reclass to her eventually middle level making her the best in the game. Man I like her so much

      @@starmaker75 yeah. Olivia combined with the dlc buff and galeforth to beat an enemy then dance to bring back another unit giving you 4 turns with 2 units with galeforth but 3 with the stronger one.
      Azura having a lance was great as she can be your support for Corrin If you want class advantage but honestly axe dancer would be better.
      Faye meanwhile is a healer so she has range and can dance while she is the villager gives her probably the best defense and offense as well as a support. That's broken.

      @@starmaker75 well chrom would offset her low stats for the kids but it's still better to wait until Olivia has galeforth to get inigo so I useally don't pair them up.
      Azura is fine early or late game for kids as she can be farmed to max level in the prologue fighting the hood guy so she comes out broken if you plan it out.
      Faye I like she goes from fighter to support as you get a tanky dancer and that's probably the best to have.

    I think there's only one type of situation where I might be tempted to not use a refresher and if it's I absolutely need to spread out resources. IMHO, the biggest hindrance to the refresher isn't that they have a weak Enemy Phase or that they're vulnerable. Their biggest drawback is that they can't be in two places at once. As such, the options for units you can refresh are limited to the units that are close to your refresher.
    However, as you mentioned, there are ways around this, like Rescue dropping, Rescue magic, or Pair Up. But these scenarios involve wasting other unit turns to get your refresher in position and this implies that you're focusing your refresher on your strongest units. If you need multiple strong units spread out, it's very difficult to leverage your refresher in all locations.
    That being said, I don't think I've ever encountered a situation where I needed this. I do like to spread out to clear chapters quicker, but I can't remember an instance where I wanted to spread out to the point where I needed a unit that my refresher couldn't otherwise substitute with the refresher just as well if not better (because they're refreshing a higher priority deployment unit). Healers are the most likely unit type I might find more difficult to spread out, but that's where consumable healing items come into play. So if a spread out combat unit can self-sustain on Player Phase, I don't need to bother deploying a healer with them anyway.

    • @xxx_jim_the_reaper_xxx
      @xxx_jim_the_reaper_xxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using a refresher when you are supposed to spread your units across the map is just a tad bit risky though.
      Unless you're able to regroup your own army in a single destination or else your own army will become splintered and get overwhelmed when divided into 2 groups.

    • @marcusmajarra
      @marcusmajarra 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xxx_jim_the_reaper_xxx I'm not sure I follow. More often than not, I tend to split up my units into multiple groups so that I can clear multiple objectives concurrently. The refresher just tends to stick to one group unless I have the means the the need to have them travel around quickly. I don't get overwhelmed when I do this because I know what I'm sending my units into and manage enemy phases accordingly.

    A technique I've been using with dancers lately (FE7, but this should work in most of the series) Is as a makeshift ultra-long range safe attack.
    Send a mounted unit into a dangerous situation to pick off an important enemy (Pegasus rider into a squad of archers.)
    Move dancer in to refresh.
    Pick dancer up with that unit, and retreat to a safe location, in movement range of another unit.
    Use another unit to unload the dancer (even better if it's another mounted unit so it can continue moving after unloading.)
    It takes 3 units to execute a single attack in this manner, but keeps all units safe, and I find I frequently have a spare unit towards the back that isn't able to do much important besides unload the dancer anyway.

    For FE3H I made Felix my dancer, which meant I was able to take advantage of sword avoid to use him as a dancer without being super concerned if he ended up in range of an enemy or two. Three Houses dancers do really struggle with the left behind thing, though, as the option to have another unit pick up and carry a unit is mostly limited to the Rescue spell, which is a limited resource you may wanna use elsewhere. There’s also the option to take advantage of Reposition shenanigans, but that requires committing combat art slots just to moving your dancer 2 spaces forward; it’s fun, but maybe not efficient. Lastly there is the Stride gambit, which does help a bit, but you wanna use that when your team is already pretty grouped up to maximize it’s effectiveness, meaning the dancer was probably already in a place where they could dance when you used it. It’s less often a way to allow your dancer to catch up and more a way to keep them level with the rest of the team for one round.

  • @JosephHk743
    @JosephHk743 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Even when I first started out playing fire Emblem even I never ditched any dancer because there’s always a situation when I would need their utility if I’m in trouble. Even outside of that, they’re fantastic for movement and if you position well, they don’t have to see any combat dangers.
    Dancers are generally good emergency safety nets that can open a lot of different strategies that wouldn’t be possible if there’s no dancer.
    Also dancers are very satisfying to use for speedrun clears and LTC runs when properly planned.
    It’s still cool to see this video even still Mekkah.

    The advice for Three Houses dancers, to make a non-combat unit a dancer because they'll mostly be dancing, is fine and all, but the fact that they *can* do much more than just dance makes using them even more of a no-brainer. They can use every weapon, as all classes can, but can also use any magic, so they could potentially be useful for offensive magic or as an additional healer. It's possibly not the optimal choice for Maddening, but even on Hard having a dancer with some combat ability or healing ability can still be useful I think
