Aki , I am using this brake setup in my circuit car , for the last 5-6 years . We do up to 30 laps a race meeting. And I have had zero issues with it. I use good rotors , high temperature brake fluid and race pads .
really good "budget" brake set up, used this similar setup on 3 of my civics with ebc pads. always build from ground up, have the chassis be able to handle the power thrown at it! keep up the golden content!
i've got the same setup, mini cooper 280 discs, pbs race pads and integra calipers with braided brake lines, also runing a prelude 1" master, did a few track days, never any brake fade, did get the brakes smelling a bit but they never lost any braking performance, instant grab, the whole setup was around 500 to 600 bucks, bare in mind i did get the calipers restored and powdercoated
dust shields are mainly more for splash shields. most people on road courses dont use them cuz it helps with cooling the rotor better. running some ducting to air the rotors from behind etc. Also with the bigger rotors comes bigger Master cylinder. a nice 1" bore MC will due those big brakes wonders. im sure yall already know that.
Great setup for the money, I have the Type R/ Mini Cooper setup in my CRX but with 90/91 Civic EX sedan front spindles, 1st gen CRV 97/01 front spindles and calipers are the same part number for the Acura Type R, Honda Odyssey have the same calipers but with different brackets and other cars have this calipers too it’s just the brackets that are different, there’s 2 different brackets one it’s 23T and the other is 25T and the difference between the two it’s rotors thickness 23T/23mm rotors and 25T/25mm rotors. There’s other combinations that can be used with this type of spindles but some need modifications or custom brackets but can’t go wrong with OEM setup, parts are easily accessible
Aki, love your videos. Watching your videos took all the fear out of doing a manual conversion and motor swap on my prelude. Would have loved to k swap it but but I cannot weld. So I did a h23a1 auto to jdm h22a conversion in my garage with just a little help from my daughter. Keep up the great videos and thanks for what you do.
Same as the prelude caliper as well. If your in the junkyard and see them. Just make sure it says 23t on the bracket. 2 piston calipers are 91-96 nsx or 94-95 legend gs caliper on the 23t bracket. You will need to grind the bracket some and run itr pads.
I’m using the setup for years and many lapping/time attack days. you can only take the 23t bracket and use your red caliper. You really need to upgrade those brake pads, you will overheat them in a few lap and they wont last more than a day. Hawk dtc60 are perfect and cheap. They will last all season easy. ( in the rear you need to run oem or bot agressive pads because you will lock the wheel(i’m using hawk hp+) ) It’s better to use blank rotor because slotted or drill rotor cracks all the time. with the agressive brake pads it’s hard on them. I usualy change my rotor 2 time before i change my pad.
1 inch brake master cylinder+brake booster from a ~2000 prelude is a direct bolt on. i had this exact set up and ep3 rear disc with stock cx prop valv and it worked perfect never locked the rears and had great pedal feel with lots of modulation and could lock up my 120 treadwear tires easily
I rather run booster delete as you have much better brake modulation. If you are going to run booster less, you want 7/8" MC as that's the correct size for the brake caliper pistons size.
5:44 i used to have a 98 Accord, freaking loved that car it was so good. Not the exciteable kind of VTEC but it was still a good car. My coworker used to tell me to just get Accord v6 knuckles for the back of mine so i could have four rotors and stuff but i just kept it drums and had fun the way the car was. And slapped the good ol' ebay H.I.D. 10k's and some Kenwood 6x9's. It was a good car
wats good aki from lancaster pa. love ur video . cant wait to see that ek done u guys doing amazin job i have my self a 2010 tsx and ae86 and ur videos help me alot love ur builds ...keep gunin💪
Love what you do! Keep that content Comming. The idea of breaking things down to shorter vids is a good sell. I would be more apt to watch a 20 minute section vs. An hour long vlog. Brother You're an asset to the community.
Guys back in the day were running mini cooper s rotors with itr calipers. Afco makes some pretty cheap 4 piston calipers but you have to make custom brackets, they are pretty light too.
Aki thank you for putting all the videos into playlist. I’ve watch lefty,Kobe and I’m now on Manolo. Same chasis I have and everything’s got me hype to be able to finally do my build.
Great vlog ! I love the fact that you don't hide the mistake and even joke about it. It's a great brake setup. A friend has a similar one on his K20 EG coupe. His car has full interior (weights 2420 lbs give or take) and it works great on mountains roads and racetracks as well. In your case maybe the pads can mess up if they not dissipate enough heat. If it's the case and you have fading on track and you find the pads have glazed, you will know they are not good enough and you will need some better ones. The pads quality is very important. It's what give you the bite, brake feel and most of the endurance. With a good pads / discs combo and good brake fluid your setup can last long. Air vents can help a lot too. Like Trappy saids on track you will drive aggressively. To have less risks of overheat the brakes it's better to be hard on them and brake for a shorter period of time (threshold braking) rather than brake with less brake pressure for a longer period of time. Threshold braking is the fastest way to brake and it help to have better grip on the front axle in corner entry ass well. I hope it will help 🙂.
Oh no. Jim is commenting again. Anyhow back in my CCS Florida racing days (Superbike road racing) we purposely installed our Dunlop GP207 front tires on backwards because breaking stability was way better. More then half the feild did this. If your directonal front tires do happen to be on backwards it DOES NOT MATTER! They wont fail or come apart either way. No worries Aki.....
What a great explanation and hands on (pause) vlog. Definitely is gonna help out a few people going down the same path. Keep it up brothers #manolo is coming along perfectly
AKI you're a beast brother!!! much much love for putting us on. I read about this combo on hondatech but like you said it wasn't as clear as you made it!! It a gunners world!!!
Good shit 💪💪 on my 10th gen civic si I'm running nissan rogue rotors and genesis brembos. Cost me only 400. Everything bolted right up including the brake lines. No modifications whatsoever. 🔫🔫
Hello from Greece guys! The type R calipers are made for 282mm not for 280, but even with that in mind, you can use them with 280mm pads, but in your case the gap was way too much,. I think that this is not a Type R. Check if the Type R caliper has 14mm bolts to make sure that it's original type R. If the bolts are 12mm they are not.
That’s a good idea trap, for your vlogs, about the before and after breaking test!! It’s different and I haven’t seen a TH-camr doing a quick test like that.
Re-watching the earlier manolo vids to get even more hyped for the build. Also just got my winter EJ8 running right and hate the soft brake pedal feel I have now. If I’m gonna replace something anyway, I might as well make it better. It’s just the way to go.
Same set up I got on my DA integra. Rock auto about the same price maybe better product no sure, you can pick and choose between economy, good and best parts

When you do this set up do you have to use a 40/40 valve or different master and booster?
