Honda Civic Big Brake Kit Using Mini Cooper Brake Rotors! (INSANE BUDGET)

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 17 ก.ค. 2023
  • This Honda Civic big brake upgrade is the best budget brake upgrade for any Honda Civic EG or EK. It involves using 280mm Rotors from 2007 Mini Cooper, 1st gen Honda CRV Calipers, and TSX brake pads all on a Civic EX steering knuckle. This kit is fully bolt on and requires no modifications other than stainless steel brake lines and trimming the dust shield on the knuckles (I removed mine). These brakes are going to be absolutely insane on track with the Hawk HP+ brake pads and the new coilovers and transmission :)

    This is a great budget brake upgrade. One thing to note is that the EK knuckles are 1/2" shorter than the EG/DC ones, regardless if they have the smaller or larger "EX" brakes. So if you have a 92-95 Civic, you really should use 92-95 Civic EX or Integra knuckles. If you have a 1996-2000 Civic, you should use a 96-00 Civic EX or 99/00 Si knuckles.

      I got a 1994 ex but I didn’t realize I had 262mm rotors I figured I had 240mm so I bought calipers pads rotors etc for 240mm. Do you know what year calipers would fit my ex knuckles? Ex isn’t a model option on anything I look on. Maybe ek ex calipers that had 262mm rotors?

    • @TrackSol
      @TrackSol 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@IzzySk10 Depending on the parts retailer sometimes they don’t use model trims. You can try looking up the civic with the sohc vtec d16z6 engine. Even if you ask for 96-2000, some of them had smaller brakes. For 96-00, the EX have d16y8 engine.

      @@IzzySk10 Also FYI on the EK, I think only the 4 door EX has the 262mm front rotors. Another option is to just buy a whole caliper/pad/rotor package for a 94-01 Integra. It’s the same 262mm 4x100, just that the caliper has a slightly larger piston.

  • @tropg

    you should really get those spacers to center the brake rotor, its not about the clamping force of the wheel but keeping everything balanced to stop wheel shake and such.

    • @boosted_john

    • @herranton
      @herranton 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mr.piglet579 The Mini Cooper uses 14mm wheel studs. The civic uses 12mm wheels studs. So although the holes are in the right place on the rotor, they are too big. (Think about placing a 14mm nut on a 12 mm bolt). The rotor will have a slight bit of play because the holes are too big. You can get shims that fit between the rotor and the wheel stud. The part can be found by googling:
      B0CVZQBS9D
      Or at least it can right now. If you still can't find the right part, reply to this and if I get a notification, I can probably find something that will work.
      Edit: I realize this is an old discussion, but it's information that people might want in the future, and the question was unanswered.

    I’m running the exact same big brake setup atm. Although it isn’t required to change the knuckled on EM1s. If you ever plan to track the EG, invest in a set of Circo brake pads. They are by far the best pads on the market. They’re quite pricey ($400 AUD) but they outlast the rotors and everything! Also invest in braided brake lines and high temp brake fluid if you haven’t already. I can take the EM1 out to the track and go hard for an hour straight and have zero brake fade in that time. Absolutely love your content and keen to see the EG out on the track!!

    You should have ran with the Turbo on the B16 trans for shits & giggles. Possibly bust the myth of short ratio trans & turbo cars. 🤷🏿‍♂️ It would have been great for content.

      Done it, prefer the ls trans for turbo. Youre sifting by the time you hit powerband. Might be good for a small turbo for fast response, but not big tubskis.
