The pace of the restoration is increasing almost exponentially. I'm sure I'm not the only viewer eager to see the completed roofline and new windows/doors. As for the balustrades, they're a bit busy and compete with the balustrades on the Juliette balcony above. Maybe replace them with an iron or wood decorative panel with the window above or simply have all-window for light and visibility? In any event, what an admirable endeavor!
Progress will still be slow unless he gets more help. It took him over two months to do the simplest part of the roof. And he's only done the structure. All the slating gutters, lead work, and finals need to be done. There's a huge amount of work still in the roof.

You don't need any backseat helpers, but I gotta make ONE suggestion. One. Put some anti-skid grip tape on those stairs/ramps of yours, like you'd put on the top of a skate board. Well he is rebuilding the ruins from scratch...its not like he is taking away valuable tresor from the 19 century! I think personally it will look great, people do renovate old building with modern touches all the time here....as long as we preserve the architecture.
The only reason they didn't have large, uninterrupted windows in Chateaus back then is that such large panes of glass were too difficult to make and transport. The front window looks so much better without the stone, grill and balustrade!! It would look smashing if it becomes a whole window as you say!. How exciting!!!
I had a window grate somewhat similar that had to come out … Instead of scraping it, I attached it to pressure treated 4 x 4 timbers sunk into the ground and the grate attached …. it made for a beautiful lawn focal point around which flowers can be planted or flowering vines grown on.
You know, a lot of time I see people putting in grills and other decorative gates in their garden. Can be used for flowering vines to climb on. You are doing such a great job...WTG!
Personally I wouldn't worry about the balustrade, it was a purely decorative feature which could be redone at any point. However, that large window space would lend itself well to a large window like you're talking about, It could even be a stained glass window too. Or maybe a stained glass surround with a clear center so you get the best of both worlds. It certainly is a very nice space for some decorative glass work.
It would be really beautiful if you could find a stained glass window that could fill the place of the large window, when you get to that point. Love watching your progress!
I agree with u Dan! I know u want to renovate it the same way it used to be, but I also think that leaving that opening,or bringing modern touches will not take from the history of the building, I prefere that baie open to the outside...without blocking the view! That balustrade may be original (despite being 'concrete'), it does appear in the oldest photographs of the Chateau online. While we think of cast stone or cement balusters as being modern they were commonly available and very fashionable in the 19th century. Many of Britain's grandest buildings from the period had cast stone architectural details.

The arched window looks better without all the clutter of ballustrades and bars. That house was built to stand at the big windows or balconies to look at the landscape and sky.
It's part of the original build - otherwise you might as well save a ton of bother, level the site and put a row of Barratt starter homes where the chateau once stood. @@Idrisbach No that was retrofitted in when the building was enlarged. One single pane of glass would be amazing
@@pdmacguire When was it enlarged?
Waouh !!!

Wow the garden looks spectacular! 🎉 I see what you mean about clearing the landing with long or large pieces 😮🎉
The view of the garden is already beautiful!!
Great work Dan. Please don't to one piece of glass though. Without divided light homes looks like their eyes have been poked out.
Momentum is a beautiful thing.😊 Dan it's truly amazing to see the level of progress.
Love the new window! So much brighter in there.❤😊
Hi Dan, what a work! Gratulation! Please take the original frame and the balustrade back, when time is come. Best wishes from germany
One of the really GOOD vlogs . Thanks for sharing your work and progress.
Oh that was too bad how it fell away. So nice how the frame came out in one piece. Yea!!! Noggins!!! So happy for you Dan. You are making so much progress. All the best.
Dan, great job on taking out the window grate. You're so strong to be taking all that stuff down and out.
Cheers
The best Dan videos leave you both laughing and a little sad all at the same time.
In the rain.
The best thing of all though has been to watch this guy develop some serious skill.
Wish I lived closer. I’d be working on those windows and grinding moulder knives for your profiles just for the heck of it. Great to see you understand the sheet metal the other day. I was shouting “I knew it! “ at the top of my lungs in our backyard.
In the rain of course…..
Dan, simply AMAZING!! So interesting how much you have accomplished, and most of the work, solo! Terrific!!
Can’t wait to see everyone there to help you. They must be amazed at what you have done
It amazes me how much a dedicated person can get done if they keep at it. I would love if Dan adhered to a least a few basic safety standards, but no one can deny his grit and what he's managed to get done. These videos are a highlight every time they arrive.
We would all love it ( Dan adhere to basic safety standards.) Oh well...Yes, enjoying Dan & team's work.
Ohh, for a noggin day🤗 I really love watching ,listening to the bird song, watching the 🌧️ seeing how the garden is growing just about everything.Your the man Dan
Good morning Team Dan ❤
Coming in from the inside of the courthouse building ….(they let me in early cause they said I looked homeless sitting on the back step in the cold 🤣 )
Are you Dan Loving the stair case ? Cause I am 😊
Fantastic job getting the window frame out ❤❤
Poop about the concrete thingy’s but yeah looks absolutely gorgeous without it
Be safe and we will see you tomorrow ❤
‘A good noggin time.’ Perfect! It is going to look spectacular in the end. Thank you. May you all please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
The terra cotta chimneys are beautiful with the lattice work. ❤
Wow, the whole window frame at once, impressive, and I know you will impress us when you start building a new one ❤, but I can't wait to see your garden 😊, and noggins tomorrow, thanks Dan, I look forward to your channel and its brightening my days lately. Bless you😊
So exciting to free up that window at this stage, not original, relatively poorly designed. Good job! majestic view❤
Thank you for letting us watch you rebuild the chateau it has been a learning experience for all of us to see how much went in to building it it will be very beautiful when you finish it
A victory indeed! every small part carefully accomplished is like landing on Juno and Gold.
Wow wow wow the view from that window is stunning the teasing glimpses of the garden you give us look amazing. Old lady from Australia here just saying I was wincing with worry as you were walking down your wet makeshift stairs with those cement blocks and boards. Good luck with the noggins 🇦🇺🇦🇺
that tree leafing out in red leaves is gorgeous

What a glorious view after taking out the window frame, security bar and balustrade. Be careful though we don’t want you falling out 🙏🤞
